QUOTE (JDsDirtySox @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 10:10 PM) Justin Verlander does good against us? Hell no. We own him.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 10:02 PM) I'm going to change my approach. I highly doubt the Sox are going to win this game. Their approach is pathetic right now. CQ just swung at 2 balls in the dirt, Dye, AJ, and Uribe have been swinging at terrible pitches too. Swisher and Crede haven't gotten it going tonight. Too many negatives to make a positive out of this game. Swisher actually has been pretty useless going on a little while now. I still love him though.
-
3 runs allowed through 6, can't really blame anything on Floyd. Not his fault he had non-existent run support.
-
Did Dye seriously just strike out on 3 pitches with the 3rd pitch being in the dirt?

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) Jason Jennings fetched a nice return for the Rockies before the 2007 season. Randy Johnson to the Astros was a gold mine for the Mariners and he only had half a year left on his contract. At the time of the trade the White Sox gave up the minor league player of the year and their supposed future catcher for Freddy Garcia who only had half a year left. It's just not something that happens that often and isn't easy to do. GMs don't like to give up good players for rent-a-players they aren't sure they can sign extensions if they can avoid it at all.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 09:22 PM) This just reaffirms how much I hate the Twins. QFT, I was going to make this post almost verbatim. I remember getting excited when they were talking about contracting them not too long ago. Can we start talking about that again?

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 07:16 PM) Given that Anderson's career (and current) OBP is still well below .300, he has absolutely not shown more than Owens offensively. While he has more upside than Owens, he has yet to tap that potential and is in the neighborhood of a Uribe-like automatic out. I don't know why people keep bringing up Anderson's career numbers as an argument why he'll never amount to anything. If it was really that simple and they still thought he'd never be anything more than a .600 OPS player, they'd have just DFA'd him this past offseason and there would be no argument.

McCain is also what Republicans were before they pissed away all of their credibility on fiscal restraint, which actually wasn't even that long ago.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 07:55 PM) WOW! Weird! That caught me off guard. Yeah, me too. But then again we're not talking about the most rational group of people either.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 10:20 AM) My problem too. My current house bought for about $200,000 would be $350,000 anywhere within 10 miles of my store. Here between DC and Baltimore it's a lot like that too, except my commute is probably 1/4 of what yours is. It's amusing how much the prices spike when you go 5 miles east. In the Fort Meade area it's a pretty booming economy and a single-family home there is going to run you about $400k because everybody wants to live close to work. But where I am, basically in a suburb of Baltimore and a 20 minute drive, a home is about $300k and my townhome was $265k which is almost the least you need to pay if you want to live in a decent neighborhood. It makes you wonder where all the jobs are that so many people can actually afford this.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 11:00 AM) You have to be driving on New Ave. to smell it, but man does it stink. Sorta like rotten eggs. I was in Kuwait for a while, and yeah. When you are close to the refineries you definitely know, especially when it's 125 degrees.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 07:51 AM) I'm actually going to defend McCain here. That isn't a flip-flop. Its right in line with what McCain has said all along, which is that he wants the US to stay until Iraq stabilizes, then he wants all significant military presence taken home over time. So yes, that means no permanent presence, but yes, it also means they may stay a long time because of that tricky "stable" part of the argument. Its funny because, his stance puts him out of line with both the hawks and the liberals. I can understand McCain. It's just that his vision of some imaginary victory, that the war on terror will suddenly just rectify itself or whatever pending what we do with Iraq within a visible and reasonable time frame, is delusional.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 09:08 AM) The demographics here are HUGE for her. Hell there is a good portion of the state that still has Klan memberships... they aren't voting for Obama. Actually - and I was surprised to read this - I was reading some law enforcement assessment from somewhere (I forget which state, and obviously I can't link you to it so you just have to take my word for it) and it said that the writings on white supremacist websites have been basically saying Obama is the lesser of three evils because they see McCain and Hillary as being owned by the Jews and Israel. Take that for what it's worth, but remember, we're talking about white supremacists. So they don't want to see them in office and they'd rather see Obama get elected, even though they hate it, because he hasn't been corrupted yet.

QUOTE (joeynach @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) Konerko and Swisher could be your 3/4 combo in the batting order in 2009 and 2010. Carlos Quentin says hi.
-
QUOTE (joesaiditstrue @ Apr 29, 2008 -> 06:38 PM) when your 10/5 kicks in as a player, does it look badly upon your character if you deny a trade? is that generally frowned upon? Why would it be? It's your contract, and your career.
-
QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 10:01 PM) Are you kidding, we have one of the worst 2,3 and 4 hitters combos in baseball. Swisher should be protecting Quentin in the order or vice versa. Sox really need a leadoff man and a Number 2 guy that can get the job done. I mean, are you going to send Cabrera, Thome, and Konerko down to AAA and call up someone else? Probably not. I probably should've said 25-man roster.

QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 10:13 PM) Which makes it sucky for the rest of us in the consumer industry. Come on, let's get serious about alternative energy sources instead of paying lip service to it. fixed

I hope they take this back to Baltimore, I'll be at both games and I'll get to see the end of this clusterf*** for free. -

Even when Uribe does something right he makes me mad, him hitting this HR only makes the agony that is this game last longer. -

QUOTE (WCSox @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 07:15 PM) Since Anderson isn't especially adept at placing bunts, it's not exactly an easy RBI. Ozzie picked a really bad time to roll the dice. I was talking about by swinging. 1 out, Anderson's had a good plate approach lately, he doesn't really have to do that much to get the runner in. -

QUOTE (Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Apr 28, 2008 -> 07:11 PM) Well, I just hope this is the worst loss of the season, and we get it out of our system like a bad s***. Kind of like that other game we lost in Baltimore...
