QUOTE (zenryan @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) atleast Morgan was a good player. By good player you mean "all time great" then yes. -

QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 09:42 PM) A guy gets destroyed against a team, comes in with a 9 ERA. Then 3 hits the sox over 6 innings. Hawk " Well I understand that "Insert Here" has a 9 ERA and gave up 7 homers in a row in his last start, but...pause.....I cant see how". "He might have the numbers, but this kid knows how to pitch. He just threw another pitchers pitch to Thome, you just tip your cap and come back fighting the next day. I count 9 arm angles, and that pitch I know the radar gun says 84, but with the difference between his fastball and his change our hitters think its 98" Hawk is a de facto Chicago legend but he is seriously an awful announcer. Like in Joe Morgan territory. -

DJ: "The Sox' offense has really been clicking, it's cooled off as of late, but good pitching will do that to you." lol, I really wish I lived in Chicago so I could mute and listen to the radio. -
I was just listening to an interview with the chair of the GOP in NC as she defended the Wright ads in NC against... all I can say is wow, she was completely clueless and did not make a single coherent argument. The only thing i can recall her saying that even kind of almost halfway made sense was "we need to examine their radical left-wing connections." Which would mean that because they endorsed Obama who is connected to Wright, they support Wright's views. Okay. Everything else during the interview was garbage and Roland Martin walked circles around her without even trying.

QUOTE (DrunkBomber @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 03:26 PM) Considering its an elective foreign language I see no harm in using it as a tool to help the students learn. However, if it was something like a school trying to make it be recited in both languages to appease bilingual students thats another story. I actually agree with DrunkBomber here Great, we're all going to die now. Sorry guys

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 10:19 AM) I have to use a religious example here, but it's the best analogy to what you just said. I work for a Lutheran church and school. We hold a weekly chapel service for the kids every Wednesday. When one fo the teachers leads it, he tends to use a version of the Lord's Prayer that uses different wording than the one we say in church. He explains that it makes the kids THINK about what they are saying, rather than just reciting from memory. When I had AP English my junior year of HS our teacher had us take scenes from Macbeth and act them out using inner-city ghetto dialogue, complete with profanity if necessary. That was actually really fun.

QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 09:16 AM) Trying to equate John with George isn't 'going negative'? I thought GWB was a dirty word for liberals? If he's equating GWB with McCain based on his stances on certain issues (e.g., the economy) it's entirely relevant IMO. And a lot of people see things that way, not just Obama. It's not really "going negative" to highlight someone's stance on the #1 issue on voters' minds just because somebody who supports that stance doesn't agree. Otherwise there would be no point in campaigning at all and we could just have the candidates fill out a written test or something. Personally I've always thought of McCain as moderate and pragmatic, and I understand he's trying to walk a delicate line between all the independents that like him (like me for example) and the die-hard conservatives that don't like him but will only begrudgingly support him to keep a Democrat out of office. So I don't really jump on him too much when it looks like he's flip-flopping.

QUOTE (Controlled Chaos @ Apr 24, 2008 -> 09:10 AM) The last thing I want to do is hijack this thread, but when I read your posts 'a little from the right' or 'centrist' is not even close to what comes out. I dont mean that as demeaning either...diff strokes for diff folks. I just would never take you for a centrist and am curious what views you hold that makes you think you are. I was going to make a similar post last night but I forgot. Athomeboy doesn't strike me as centrist at all, but on the other hand, a lot of Americans consider themselves "moderate" but they're actually liberal or conservative, just less so than others, and they'd have certain views that contradict the overall stereotypical liberal or conservative (part of the problem with having 2 rigid political parties). I know that it'd be easy for someone on this board to assume I'm a die-hard liberal because I tend to defend Obama a lot but I'm honestly not, and I actually don't really even like Obama all that much, just more than everyone else. Me personally, I call myself a moderate/independent but I do lean to the left a little. I'm with the conservatives on things like crime and punishment, defense, personal accountability, etc. but socially I'm liberal as hell, I can't even pretend to want to hide that.

Also, Fields's defense is barely acceptable at 3B as of now which in my mind just doesn't justify trying to move him to a more important defensive position where he'd probably suck horribly for a while.

Yeah there are some injuries where you can get hurt and you will be out a while but come back 100% and it will never come back. A broken leg, a badly sprained ankle for example. Then there's others there is a good chance you'll come back the same player but there's a chance you don't. Torn ACL, Tommy John surgery, shoulder surgery for a pitcher, etc. Then there are ones like Crede's injury that are pretty much question marks forever.

QUOTE (JFields27 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 11:49 PM) yeah thats easy for anyone to say since everyone(well most) hate JF because of Crede Nobody actually hates Fields, people might have talked a whole lot of s*** they didn't really mean but nobody actually hates a young, power-hitting, high-ceiling player just because there is an established veteran in a complicated situation blocking him. -
I don't see the problem with it personally, to me it's the same as the teacher asking you in your first few weeks of Spanish class to recite your phone number in Spanish. It is in a Spanish class after all, it's not like somebody trying to arbitrarily replace English or anything.

I kind of agree with McCain... it's not like he's in favor of lowering pay for women or something. Having that much regulation opens up a messy can of worms and could do more harm than good.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 10:47 PM) Just as you are today Yeah I don't think I could do it. I would tell people what I think of them when it isn't necessary, I wouldn't be able to deflect reporters' stupid questions (in fact I'd probably flat out tell them to STFU and move on to the next question), and I would use excessive profanity. On certain issues I'd tell people what I think is the ugly truth instead of sugar-coating it and that'd probably hurt me a lot. Then again I could end up with a fanatical Ron Paul-sized following and make a dent in some things and build some solid name recognition, but not have any real shot at election.

If Philly is going to be included, then honestly Chicago should be too. I would say we probably have the same proportion of uneducated but know-it-all meatheads and mouth-breathing fans (fully accounted for between both the Cubs and Sox fanbases and fully represented within the Bears) as Philly does. However, they are a lot meaner than we are, we don't boo Santa Claus or throw batteries at players.
-
Am I a politician or am I just the "some guy" I am now? I would be an epic failure as a politician because I'm incapable of mincing words, I'd take "telling it like it is" a little too far and this country couldn't handle my blunt, sometimes painful honesty.

I actually thought that was pretty funny.

QUOTE (Frankensteiner @ Apr 23, 2008 -> 10:06 PM) Can someone explain to me how Jenks goes from occasionally hitting 100 to occasionally hitting 94? I mean seriously... I guess I'm not that worried about his general effectiveness but there has to be a reason for the loss in velocity, right? Last year, he said something about being less concerned with trying to throw hard and being more concerned with trying to pitch. He said to the fans 100 isn't a big a deal as it's made out to be. FWIW. -
