  1. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 12:53 PM) If the other arab countries in the area cared one bit for the Pali's, there would be no refugees. Israel isn't the only one that has a wall to keep them out. Egypt doesn't want them, Jordan doesn't want them, and so on. I would go that far. To say they "don't care one bit" is a little extreme considering public support for them in that part of the world is pretty overwhelming. And tangible. Not wanting to take refugees doesn't indicate a lack of support especially when you've got people sending money to Hizballah, etc.
  2. They said he was awkward throughout pretty much the whole thing. I don't recall Obama jumping all over Hillary for the Bosnia thing though, at least not with the same venom Hillary uses when she attacks Obama. The media did that for him. He did turn it into a segway for something his campaign was saying earlier though, that she was exaggerating her foreign policy experience (a conclusion I came to months before I ever heard Obama's people say it).
  3. QUOTE (Alpha Dog @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 12:23 PM) I think you are barking up the same tree I was with the flag. All you will hear about is how repressed the poor Palistinians are, and that they just want a state of their own, and if the eeeevil jooooos would just leave them alone, there would be a paradise in the desert. People wonder why the Jews don't like the Palistinians, they SHOULD wonder why the rest of their arab brothers don't like them. I did find it funny that even Kofi wouldn't back him on this. I wouldn't go that far.
  4. QUOTE (tonyho7476 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 11:20 AM) Ok, but the Royals are above us and the Brewers are #2 in the MLB? Its fun to argue and laugh at these lists. I agree with that, I think it's the whole point actually. I don't start paying them any attention until at least a month in though.
  5. This team was 72-90 last year and has been playing well for about 2 weeks. If they put us at 14th and we are still playing this way 2 months from now, then I think we have a right to b****. But not now.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 07:46 AM) This is the key for me. They can change topics in an answer any other time, but they really seemed to feed into this garbage. Clinton I expected this from, Obama I didn't. I am REALLY disappointed in him, and lost a lot of respect for the guy. Here you go - this is what I was talking about a few posts ago, I knew of it but couldn't find the exact quote. This is what Obama said during the debate when they pressed him on Clinton's sniper white lie. He tried to change the subject... didn't work though. “[T]he fact of the matter is, is that both of us are working as hard as we can to make sure that we’re delivering a message to the American people about what we would do as president. Sometimes that message is going to be imperfectly delivered, because we are recorded every minute of every day. And I think Senator Clinton deserves, you know, the right to make some errors once in a while. I’m — obviously, I make some as well. “I think what’s important is to make sure that we don’t get so obsessed with gaffes that we lose sight of the fact that this is a defining moment in our history. We are going to be tackling some of the biggest issues that any president has dealt with in the last 40 years. Our economy is teetering not just on the edge of recession, but potentially worse. Our foreign policy is in a shambles. We are involved in two wars. People’s incomes have not gone up, and their costs have. And we’re seeing greater income inequality now than any time since the 1920s. “In those circumstances, for us to be obsessed with this — these kinds of errors I think is a mistake.”
  7. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 11:17 AM) If Obama had tried to say "let's get off this and talk about health care", there are those who would have said he was trying to dodge the issue. He had to fight through it and Clitnon was in no hurry to bail him out. I think she got knocked back about her husband pardoning Weather Underground people. They negates anything she might try and say about him. I'm reading there was a point in the debate where they put out some bait for him to go after Clinton on the whole sniper deal and all he said was "we've both made mistakes." So while a James Carville will tell you Obama's being nasty too by doing things like pointing out the Clinton pardons, when it's not in response to a direct personal attack on him, more often than not he doesn't like to fire back.
  8. Yeah, I'm really not sure what he thinks he's trying to do either.
  9. I'm pretty sure he knew it was coming. I don't really see how he could be blamed for feeding into it though, it's not like he can't answer the questions. He spends most of his time defending himself.
  10. I didn't watch the debate (went to the Sox game instead obviously and probably wouldn't have wasted my time watching it anyway) but read about it, from what I can tell Obama spent most of his time looking and sounding annoyed because he had to answer stupid and irrelevant questions... not sure how he can be blamed for anything except poor handling of his answers and allowing it to bother him. It's not like he was the one asking the questions or moderating the debate. Clinton either... although most Americans would agree that she is the source of all below-board negativity since Super Tuesday.
  11. Considering the Cubs/Sox games have only actually been relevant for a decade or so and the Bears and Packers go way back, and they're an actual division rivalry, I'd say it isn't really even close and I'm kind of bewildered that there's an actual argument about it. Even in the same city, the Sox and Cubs playing each other is like any other MLB game in the standings and otherwise what they do doesn't affect the other team, and it's mostly just s***-talking, bragging rights and $$ ratings.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 17, 2008 -> 09:12 AM) This from the guy who uses his convenient fued with Sox front office to fill his columns up on a daily basis. Hypocrasy knows no end with Kotex-boy. Face it, you haven't been a good columnist that I have ever seen, and you deserve to be fired. I would say that Mariotti does his job very well, as long as he sells papers for the Sun-Times and people talk about his columns, as controversy tends to do. However, I think we can both agree that we hate his "job."
  13. Average gas tank size of 25 gallons? Geez do you drive an M1 Abrams dude? My gas tank is 16 gallons and that's on the larger end of non-SUVs. It's still gonna probably be in 7 figures though if you give a liberal estimate.
  14. Oh and because I missed the first train and had to wait, I got into the stadium right before Thome's at-bat. Aaaargh.
  15. QUOTE (knightni @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 06:11 PM) I honestly wish that Contreras was somewhere else. He's the dead weight in our rotation so far this year. Lance Broadway might do better. If Contreras is going to keep pitching lights-out like this I'm going to keep bashing him and talking about how bad he sucks. I'm superstitious.
  16. Sometime in the 2nd inning or so a group of young guys was sitting in front of me and they all yell out "DYE YOU SUCK!" (I was sitting in front of the RF foul pole right next to the field). So a little while later Dye catches a flyout and I figure "hey I'm wearing a Jermaine Dye jersey, what the hell, maybe he'll throw me a ball" but this kid about 10 years old or so comes up with a glove on going "Jermaine, right here!" (If he had thrown me the ball I would've given it to the kid). JD threw him the ball, but I thought it was funny this kid was telling JD he sucked about 10 minutes before. heh. And I know JD heard him too.
  17. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 05:37 PM) I don't know about anyone else... but I absolutely hate Contreras starts. He pretty much puts me to sleep when he's on the mound, taking a minute between pitches, and also struggling to throw strikes a lot of the time... plus, at least the Contreras from a couple years ago had good stuff, now he has just crap. I have a feeling it's going to be a looooooooooooooong game... but GO SOX! I'll be at the game so I will be spared of the pain it causes me to wait for his next pitch on Gameday.
  18. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 02:50 PM) I'd suggest that the problem here lies more with the parties and their black-or-white perspective, than with Mr. Lieberman. He isn't my fave politician by a long shot, but, the reality is that in the current decade, being a moderate or having views that don't align perfectly with one party or the other tends to get you shot to bits. And that pisses me off. It's one of the 5 or so reasons I'm not registered with a party as opposed to being a Democrat like everyone else around me when I was growing up. And why it probably won't change anytime soon.
  19. QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:45 PM) rectal examinations death anything having to do with soccer That made me laugh out loud at work and everybody turned around and started looking at me. BTW am I the only one on this board that likes the Bears better than the Sox, or otherwise doesn't have the Sox as his #1 team?

QUOTE (Heads22 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 01:44 PM) You gotta wonder how this is all gonna end. Hopefully it fizzles away to the benefit of the kids and whatnot. You do kind of feel bad for the mothers being separated from their kids, but you can't shake the feeling there is a motive bigger than that when you hear them talk.
  21. If Contreras bombs, do you think we call up Broadway or Egbert first?
  22. I saw a Griffey rookie card when he had sunglasses on and I swear he looked like Eazy-E.
  23. QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 16, 2008 -> 12:52 PM) Ayers was involved in bombing government buildings! how is that not terrorism? That really defends on how flexible someone's definition of "terrorist" is. b/c then when you open it up that wide that'd mean the bombing in NYC not too long ago was a terrorist act. Which dilutes the meaning of it.
  24. It was really unfortunate and it sucked to see, but it was time to change direction. Now, did I like the way it happened? Hell no. But they had to move on and let Frank get a chance elsewhere.
  25. I read something on that before and it just sounded like a really irresponsible use of the word "terrorist" by some people that want to get into scuzzbag politics. That's another political pet peeve of mine. It just doesn't pass the smell test to me. So he has some loose connections with some leftist with a radical history... so? Who in politics doesn't have connections like that?
