QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 12:26 PM) Anybody else hate interleague as much as me? We will lose one of Tank, Konerko or Dunn for each of the three games. I like that it's been de-emphasized this year. Step in the right direction for me. The designated interleague weeks used to suck.

QUOTE (OsweGo-Go Sox @ Apr 8, 2013 -> 11:28 AM) Floyd. Unfortunately I'm busy all three nights of this series--might just catch the last inning or two of Tuesday/Wednesday on my drive home. It seems like I always draw Floyd by default for Sox games, I've seen him more than any other pitcher over the years. That was cool when Floyd didn't kind of suck, but now it's rather annoying. At least I drew Sale last year in Detroit.

Who do we have going for Wednesday? I'll be there.

MJ in 1995 hadn't been doing all the workouts and practice with the intensity that Rose is doing right now. That is not to say Rose is going to come back and light up the league (LOL if he even comes back, ever) but I don't think those two situations are directly comparable. Rose went from rehab to workouts to 5 on 5s and game-like simulations, it's the equivalent of a training camp and a preseason. ...all of which leads to yet another question to ask him WTF is he doing. He is spamming God with prayers, but God is like "why does this kid keep calling me, I answered his prayer and healed his body months ago." God has Rose's email and phone numbers blocked.

This is old, but relevant: http://www.niemanwatchdog.org/index.cfm?fu...kgroundid=00629 I've never bought into the wireless hype... it's been years. Shouldn't we be seeing some kind of movement on that front? All we've done is stalled (or stopped) high-speed wired services.

When you factor out the 05-07 spike in which it was pretty obvious what happened, the crowds we draw aren't really that far off averages for what we draw. There aren't that many of us, and you can't compare us to Wrigley either.

A source close to the situation in Chicago told HOOPSWORLD earlier this week that Rose seems to be completely healthy. He’s practicing just like he did before the injury and is not showing any signs of weakness with the surgically repaired leg. In fact, the source said a lot of people around the team are scratching their heads, wondering what’s keeping Rose from returning for a tune up before the playoffs. Rose has made mention that he isn’t entirely comfortable dunking off of the leg just yet, and there has been some talk about his hamstrings being a little sore, but otherwise the former MVP looks like he could step on the court tomorrow and push his team from first round fodder to possible contenders. They were trying to shut down the nuclear program before if was known to be a nuclear program, I didn't know that was really a secret or anything. That was the whole point of the negotiations the Bush administration was doing in 2006 although its kind of odd how the press at the time was talking about it like it was something new. It's just more evidence that the foreign policy in the early 2000s was an unmitigated disaster in pretty much all fronts, and this is relevant today because foreign policy is something that happens in a linear way.

We should, it's not like its been tried since the republicans took the house and started manufacturing crises

QUOTE (Y2HH @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) Can we stop pretending like these budgets even matter? Whether they have them or not, it's not like they have to actually follow them. There are ALWAYS ways around any kind of budgetary constraints within a government. Really? Tell the boss at my job, he'd LOVE to know how to do that
-
Oh, speaking of negotiations. That seems to be what NK's beef is. http://www.salon.com/2013/04/05/north_kore...ally_happening/ Here's the cliff's notes if you don't want to read the whole thing: the Clinton Administration had high-level talks with them back in '94 and those talks were making progress, then before that finished the Bush administration came in with a totally different approach to diplomacy (i.e. no negotiations, "axis of evil," etc.) and scrapped the '94 agreement. NK responded by saying, in effect, "f*** this" and left the NPT went ahead with its nuclear testing. A few years later they realize they were f***ing up and went ahead with the 6-party talks per Condi and extended the '94 agreement. The Obama administration comes in and more or less waits for Kim Jong-Il to die because they thought his regime was going to collapse - it didn't - and NK tried to negotiate and offer steps to shut down its nuclear program in exchange for a declaration that the US has no hostile intent to NK. They ignored it (dumb). So that leads us to now.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 03:51 PM) Technically his budget for the year hasn't been released though, correct? This set of OASDI cuts is in the budget slated to be released next week. That budget is about 2 months behind schedule. Of course, with the sequestration debacle happening it actually is reasonable to wait to see what Congress does about this year's spending before releasing next year's, but it is actually technically accurate that the White House has yet to release a 2014 budget. Which budget, you mean the new FY2014 one? i was referring to every other one up to now

QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 03:09 PM) I should elaborate. I know there are differences between Republicans and Democrats but the one thing they have in common is they are friggin' politicians. Of course they have different social and economic views but all in all they are all cut from the same cloth. This is just my opinion. I cannot stand blind partisanship from either aisle. I do believe that most people use their brain and think for themselves but anyone who is a partisan bot just loses all credibitility. In that they are all douchebags, yes I agree. This is because of the money in politics, though. If that swamp is not drained it won't ever be any different regardless of who you replace within your party. Dems, at least, pay lip service to this idea (Obama proposed a constitutional amendment, even) and Republicans openly and vehemently oppose it. That right there is as good a reason as any others I have why I'd never support the GOP, as currently constructed.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 03:01 PM) Compare Paul Ryan's budget to anything put out by the Democrats and tell me that they're equally bad/nonsensical. Bringing me to another point - "Obama doesn't have a budget" Um... this is really dumb for so many reasons, but let's just start with googling "white house budget" to disprove that. But when people say that they mean "Obama doesn't have a budget that I like, the one he has is politically toxic to Republicans for not being exactly like theirs so it doesn't count"
-
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) Elaborate. "But Democrats do it too" "They're all the same" They're not, though... there are fiscally or socially conservative Democrats, and there are weak, cowardly, and/or s***ty Democrats, but they aren't the same thing as Republicans, and for every action Congress takes, Dems aren't equally responsible for something that does or does not happen. Like when people acted like Dems were also at fault for the whole debt ceiling debacle/hostage situation - no, that was wholly cooked up by the Republicans.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 02:42 PM) Oh come on now, he gave stump speeches about how he would do everything possible to talk with the evildoers instead of using military threats. I said Obama did it to a lesser extent than Kerry, who basically said military threats were dumb and he'd just call up Kim Jong Il on the phone and set up a meeting. He said he'd do direct diplomacy whereas Republicans said (and still say) the mere thought of it is naive and dumb.

I f***ing hate the false equivalency game

QUOTE (Jose Paniagua @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 04:54 PM) Was surprised to read that, in 2012, only three teams were more likely than the White Sox to have their baserunners score (including both RBI and non-RBI results) This was one of the biggest differences between Ozzie and Robin, it was HUGE. Robin actually made his players do these things but Ozzie would just talk about it. The second thing was baserunning efficiency.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 02:31 PM) That it's easier being a pacifist when your running a campaign against a guy/party that started the Iraq war. It's much more difficult to be that way when you actually have to confront countries like NK in the "real" world. Eh... Obama never ran as a pacifist though, honestly not even anything close to it. The whole reason he got the nomination was because he was able to point to his opposition to the Iraq War as being really dumb before it became politically convenient to be against it like probably 1/3 of the professional left did. Kerry being one of them though, which you're more right about, he's a little more full of s*** on this topic.

QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 02:24 PM) Rodman already provided the solution - Obama just needs to make a phone call and start talking basketball. By the way, I'm a HUGE fan of guys like Kerry, and Obama to a lesser extent, now openly talking about doing "anything" to secure our relationship with South Korea and protecting our interests there. Remember when these guys said they would just pick up the phone and schedule a face to face meeting? A little more difficult to say those things when you're a candidate as opposed to the President/Sec of State. I'm not following where you're going with this

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 5, 2013 -> 02:18 PM) I for one can't wait until he leads them to 10 extra house seats in 2014 under the banner of stopping Obama's cuts to Social Security. And there is zero sarcasm in this post. Irony of course being, a Romney administration pushing the Ryan budget and with a GOP-controlled Senate (or one with a significantly weakened Dem majority) would've done much more than that... not that they would even realize that when they're voting

Boehner is in the most awkward position of anyone in government. Half the things he says, he doesn't really mean or believe, but he says them because he needs to.

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Mar 30, 2013 -> 10:14 AM) People do overvalue the stadium for the Cubs, moving out or building a new stadium would have no affect on their fan base. I don't know any Cubs fan that has said he would stop going based on their park, most admit it is a dump now if anything. I'm not sure if it's "some" or "most" but a significant percentage of the Cubs fans I know get extremely defensive about calling Wrigley a dump and will immediately start projecting onto the Cell, and talking about how they don't need all these "fancy things" new stadiums have. They're good just going to the game, getting a hot dog and a beer, etc. Those are things you say you never need, until you know what it's like to have it. Kinda like someone getting their first smartphone in 2013.
