BTW unlike Iraq in this case the IC isn't pretending like it knows anything, and there's no officials in the administration right now trying to get them to bulls*** like they do. We know almost nothing except what can be seen from above and never have. Dennis Rodman knows more about Jong Un than the entire IC.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) Even if numbnuts actually did unleash a non-nuke bomb or two, I doubt we would get to a land invasion, we'd bomb them into the stone age. I'd be shocked if the regime survived that. If he did shoot a nuke, we wouldn't see a land invasion for sure, as NK would be a glowing glass field. Can't really complete an operation like this without ground troops

And people b****ing about him b****ing. Enough, guys.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:17 PM) Are you promising that isn't going to happen anyway? The history of appeasement isn't exactly a great one. If we knew everything that was going to happen, all the time, the Secretary of State would have an easy job. Generals too.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 09:19 PM) I still think he is pulling a two sided swindle here. One he is trying to prove to his people he is a badass (Oooh, he stared down the Americans) and two, get a little more bribery material (food, fuel oil, Dennis Rodman starting line up figures). He's got much more to worry about than a coup if he attempts even an unsuccessful nuclear strike against a remote US territory.

But no, seriously, all of the offensive options with regards to North Korea are f***ing awful, period point blank. As rough as we think Iraq was, this would be much worse in terms of casualties. Not hundreds, or thousands like Iraq, more like the tens of thousands. More concentrated areas, more hostile terrain. Their equipment is old, but it still kills people. Sure we would eventually win that war but it would be exceptionally painful. This isn't some idea to throw around all cavalier-like.

We need the Russians to leak our nuclear doctrine, along with the full inventory and what each weapon does, and where they are. Jong Un has been watching too much North Korean propaganda and thinks we all eat North Korean aid rations and drink coffee made of snow.

Weather forecast for Pyongyang: partly cloudy, 32,000 degrees

North Korea's army says it has the "final approval" for a nuclear attack on the US. WTF, why are they even thinking about this? Odds are that first of all, the missiles they have that can reach Hawaii or Guam would be intercepted, then as per US doctrine they'd be f***ing obliterated in retaliation and China would probably let that happen. Why?

No idea how they got out of that unscathed. All this making my balls sweat was just unnecessary.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) Marmol would be a lot worse. Or Mike MacDougal. Macdougal is the first one I thought of. Also Boone Logan who is somehow still in the league.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 04:16 PM) HUGE out! WAY TO HOLD ONTO THE BALL, LEFT FIELDER! I wonder if there is like a leak of nitrous gas out there or something.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 04:15 PM) They might have been pitching around him, or at least I hope. He kind of sucks, though, so that wouldn't be necessary

This is gonna turn into a god damn circus inning if they don't do something.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 03:29 PM) Once I read Reggie Rose's comments that HE'D had an ACL injury before that "ended" his college career, which you know in his mind means before he got a chance to dominate the NBA, I knew that we are f***ed. Reggie holds so much anger over getting injured. It's clear that he's projecting his fears into his little brother's mind. You know, the kid that was cleared to return by the best doctors money can buy well over a month ago. I originally used to think it was a good thing that Reggie had that experience to relate to Derrick, but it's clear that Derrick looks up to his brother and does whatever he says, which he's done his whole life... but he's his own man now, he's 24.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:53 PM) Well, he did retire twice. You automatically assumed I meant after '98. But I still don't consider them to be from the same era. That would be like lumping Dr. J and MJ into the same era. *three times We as Bulls fans don't speak of that third time, though.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:50 PM) You could also read it as "look I care". I'm sure his teammates are pretty sick of Rose and his entourage right now. If he is indeed kicking their asses in scrimmages and then letting them go out there and play while he continues to "rehab" longer than any professional does from an ACL injury. I just don't get this exceptionalism that people want to apply to Rose since he's arguably one of the 5 best players in the NBA. His teammates are grinding it balls-out every night and really pushing to their limits while Rose, through his entourage, is like "there's no point in me coming back." Obviously, nobody wanted Rose to come back before he was healthy or "ready" but we've been long past the point where re-injury or other injuries like Rubio had was a risk, but I'd feel some kind of way about that if I was one of his teammates although I'd never say it out loud or on the record. If Rose's plan all along was to never play this season, he should've just said that instead of trying to be mealy-mouthed about it and string everyone all along and he'd have saved so much unnecessary drama. The more he talked about it the worse he made it sound, since Rose was never a great communicator to begin with. Listening to Rose speak in public is like watching Michael J. Fox try to compete in a Jenga tournament.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:48 PM) c'mon now. I know michael was still in the league when kobe arrived, but i don't consider them from the same era. You said "Jordan retires and your next great SG is who" It was pretty self-evidently Kobe unless you were making some entirely different point.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:41 PM) Point is the way everyone attacks the C position today, it's just as easy to attack perimeter players back in the 90's. Jordan retires and your next best sg is who? Mitch Richmond? Reggie Miller? Pg, you had gary payton, stockton and um? SF you had pippen, hill and then, um? Yeah. It was pretty thin back then. Please don't make me defend Kobe Bryant. I'm begging you.

Gibson said "That's what happens when you rush back and try to help your team win" about his injury. I know someone reading that might be tempted to make comparisons to Rose, but really stop. Rose's surgery was almost 11 months ago, he's finished healing, finished rehab, and doing intense 5-on-5 practice in which, by all accounts, he looks great. That is hardly "rushing back." Taj sprained his MCL (no surgery required), came back a couple weeks too early, and aggravated it.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:26 PM) Proof that the league as a whole is better today than in the 90's. I present to you the 1994 all-stars. Behold. http://www.basketball-reference.com/allstar/NBA_1994.html I can't even believe my eyes. B.J. armstrong? Mookie Blaylock? Kenny Anderson? Cliff Robinson? Horace Grant? John Starks? Those are all good players in some form or another. I counter you with Zach Randolph, Luol Deng, Joakim Noah, Kevin Garnett's old busted ass STARTING, Jrue Holiday It's not like the all-Star roster was packed with Hall of Famers every year.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:22 PM) I had to Google it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charon_(moon)...popular_culture ^^This But we gotta figure out FTL travel and fuel sources and other boring stuff like that first. The Protheans already figured that out, if we would find it on Mars -
The current hand checking rules has a direct relation to why most of the 10 best guards you name on top of your head are point guards who can score (Westbrook, Paul, Rose, Williams, Wall, Irving, etc.) and only a few are shooting guards (Kobe, Wade, I guess Harden, Ellis) It also is one of the biggest reasons that a muscular 6'8" 260 pound small forward likes to drive into the paint and play on the perimeter/wings instead of banging in the post.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Apr 3, 2013 -> 02:06 PM) Hey genius. Defensive 3 seconds was always a rule, it was just considered an illegal zone back then. I actually wondered why they didn't call "illegal defense" (with the free throw) anymore (explanation for this, I was off in boot camp and whatnot and didn't have a TV for a couple of years, and was in other countries and s*** later). But yeah 3 seconds was always a rule.

Anywhere there's NBA talk by people of different ages, some version of this discussion is inevitable, and will happen multiple times.
