White Sox Wet Dream is a staff headed by Crochet, Schultz, and Smith

With those 3 at the top then Thorpe and one of Iriarte, Ky Bush, or Burke as the 4 and 5 starters that could be a damn formidable rotation.

I like this better, and this system isn’t “how we’ve always done it”, it’s only about  12 years old.

MLB draft will never be straight forward because they are picking players based on what they could be in 3 years physically, let alone talent wise. “BPA” is a much more fluid concept.

Andrew Vaughn was certainly “BPA” over CJ Abrams in 2019, he was older and already accomplished destroying college baseball. But Abram’s had a much higher ceiling and lo and behold he is an all star and Vaughn sucks.

Every sport drafts players based on how good they will be down the road. Very few athletes come out of college (or HS obviously) a finished product. Some are high floor/low ceiling and vice versa. They’re all about figuring out how good this 19-21 year old will be when they’re 27-28 and in their prime.

My complaint about the mlb draft is the crazy way teams pick people to sign them underslot/overslot then draft college seniors 5 rounds in a row and pay them $10k so they can draft a HS kid in round 17 and pay him $1mil etc…. It is just such an ass backwards way of going about business. Why not just have hard slot values and pick whomever you think best fits the value of that slot? The way it’s done now is so over the top convoluted it’s insane to me. Just my two cents

You have to think of rounds 6-10 as basically 16-20 in actuality. That's how this works sometimes. Grab some really cheap guys to ensure that you can utilize the entire bonus pool. This isn't a draft class where it made sense to pay slot values in every round. There aren't enough good players.

The MLB draft system is crazy to me. NFL/NBA drafts are so much more straight forward i.e. teams pick whomever they think is the best player for them and move on. I get that in the MLB they can draft HS players and this changes the algebra a bit but I still think that the MLB could simplify the system dramatically by implementing an actual slot system instead of the suggested slot system they use now.  I feel like MLB keeps their outdated and overly convoluted draft system simply because “that’s how we’ve always done it”.

    Schultz being Schultz

Got squeezed by the ump on what should’ve been strike 3 on leadoff batter in the 4th. Ends up singling and scoring for the only ER

  5. Another day, another walk for Zavala whose OPS is now almost .700. That’s impressive for a guy with a BABIP in the low .200’s.  I expect him to have a strong 2nd half.

Would almost rather see Eder (at his relatively advanced age) pushed up.

But Getz probably doesn't want everyone to start jumping on that trade as well if it blows up in their faces.  Granted, it was KW's move and not Chris'.

Burger is not exactly lighting the world on fire this year so I doubt he’s that worried about the return on that trade looking bad.

    Wolkow to Kanny.

That’s a surprise with his k rate hovering around 50%. Maybe he was working on something specific???

Hopefully Zavala is starting to turn a corner at the plate.

He’s had some bad bibp luck this year. I would expect some it to average out eventually

  9. Riley Gowens, a throw in from the Bummer trade, is performing very well at high-a this so far. Sounds like he has a plus, low to mid 90’s FB with lots of movement and quality secondary pitches. Even if he end up a reliever to maximize his FB that should be considered a win for us. Someone to watch. I expect him to move up to AA sooner than later

    Savage is tearing up ACL.

    Promote him to Kanny.

His K rate is about 50%. Maybe pump the brakes on that promotion for a bit.

  11. I wonder how duke ellis is in the OF defensively because he’s dynamic on the basepaths. Could end up making it to the bigs as a defensive/baserunner bench guy.

Colson and Zevala are the next A-Rod and Griffey.

Colson has such a violent swing for a dude so big. Flips the hips and after that his long ass arms do the rest.

I don’t know much about swing mechanics but that looks like a huge leg kick for Zavala. What does that mean for his hitting profile moving forward?

Also, I think Brooks Baldwin is a sleeper prospect, good bat with decent pop and he has been aggressively promoted this year at a premium position. Interested to see how he performs this season.

Four stellar innings for Tanner McDougal!   Clearly been restricted post TJ.

    Is Comas the pitcher something?

Comas might be something, he’s performed admirably for a conversion project. I’d like to know what his stuff looks like.

  14. He also had Schultz in his next 30 list, so basically we have 4 guys in the top 80. It’s been a while since we’ve had that many, good to see.

As far as Montgomery at #2 I’m shocked but at the same time very excited to see the analytics community with such a high opinion. We can all look at the basic numbers he puts up and see him doing very well at a young age but it’s great to know that the analytic numbers back up what we’re seeing as well.

  15. As far as I’m concerned the only thing TA did wrong was drop his hands. You have to keep your hands up and protect your chin, might get embarrassed if you don’t. Any player who isn’t afraid to fight on the field should be required to take some boxing classes, team mandate.
