  1. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 04:40 PM) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kQFKtI6gn9Y haha, very nice
  2. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 11:30 AM) Thank you. Maybe I did a bad job making my point. The season has a long way to go, but considering where he was a year ago, and where he is now, I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility he's in the Sox dugout in September. I hope he plays well enough to get there. Last year people thought he was nothing more than career minor leaguer, so far this season he's showing that he has some real ability AND is indeed a prospect, someone that the big club would want to look at in sept. I understand what you're saying, some people just like to argue.
  3. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 26, 2012 -> 03:21 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,2779832.story Sox minor league pitcher Andre Rienzo was suspended 50 games for violating Minor League Baseball's Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. Rienzo, a native of Brazil, tested positive for metabolites of Stanozolol, a performance-enhancing substance. Rienzo, 23, was 3-0 with Class-A Winston-Salem with a league-leading 31 strikeouts. crap
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 25, 2012 -> 06:25 AM) I had never heard of the guy. After looking him up, it seems like there is a good reason why. Please, elaborate.
  5. QUOTE (danman31 @ Apr 19, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) Judging by the numbers he was more likely to be working on something last year. He's been too dominant so far to be working on a pitch. Entirely possible that there's a coach there that they want him working with on some specific aspect of his game too.
  6. QUOTE (Cali @ Apr 16, 2012 -> 08:01 PM) What exactly is Phegley's defense like. Literally all I know about him is that he was on the Dl a lot for some weird/rare blood disease... Hoping he's healthy now cause AJ is batting his way out of town right now haha Defense always been the question with him. Has a strong arm and can throw runners out, no idea about his ability to call a game.
  7. QUOTE (balfanman @ Apr 5, 2012 -> 06:21 AM) Thank you for the preview, I casually follow the minors and am a far cry from an expert on the subject. Question for whoever: Is Miguel Gonzales still considered a decent catcting prospect? Now that Flowers is a major leaguer is he the best catching prospect the Sox have? or is it that (can't remeber his name, I think it was maybe Smith) guy that was drafted a year or so ago? I think that the best prospect we have is probably Phegley right now. He's closest to the majors and has the fewest questions I'd say although his defense leaves much to be desired. Kevan Smith has great potential but he's old and playing at a low level, he's going to really have to progress quickly to be considered a prospect at all. As far as Gonzales, this is probably a make or break year although with his defense and his ability to shut down a running game with his arm he may be able to make it as a backup in the bigs just for those skills.
  8. Jose Martinez, he's a couple years removed from a terrible leg injury. I think he can put it together this season.
  9. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Apr 7, 2012 -> 06:16 PM) Simon Castro's first start. 5.0 IP 9 H 4 ER 0 BB 7 SO 2 HR No walks is a good sign for him even though he got touched up a bit
  10. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 30, 2012 -> 01:48 PM) Just curious, but do people think Alexei Ramirez has lived up to expectations? Was he projected to be more than what he is at the plate? Certainly his glove has, but offensively? When we signed him most people thought he would have to spend at least one or two seasons in the minors before he'd be ready to contribute with the big club but he jumped right in as a rookie and hasn't given up his position since. He's more than exceeded any expectations I had of him, he's a top 5 player at his position overall which I think exceeds even the wildest of expectations placed on him.
  11. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 28, 2012 -> 11:29 AM) Damn. One of my favorites. Me too, made improvements to his approach every year, good BB K ratio, a little power, a little speed and good OBP.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2012 -> 02:38 PM) 12-3 Indians, going to the 8th. 3-9 after 12 games. b****in'. Spring training means nothing. I remember one season the Raiders (my favorite football team) went 4-0 in the preseason, Art Shell's first season back as head coach. It got everyone excited, we were going to be the raiders of old, kicking ass and taking names, they went on to go 2-14 that year and played like a high school team. Since then I just can't give a damn about anything that happens before the season starts in any sport.
  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Mar 14, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) I actually thought Molina looked real solid. Got in to some trouble in the 9th, but dialed up a double play and no damage was done. I was pleased with that movement on his splitter and whatever hell that Ephesus-esque pitch was that confused everyone. Excellent ephus reference!
  14. would have expected miguel gonzalez somewhere on that list
  15. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Jan 7, 2012 -> 02:27 AM) BA updated their transactions, no real losses for the Sox with their latest round of releases: - RHP Jamaal Hollis - RHP Sam Phippen - Stephen Sauer - Justin Edwards - 2B Drew Lee They also signed 3B Corey Smith; career minor leaguer. Edwards was a pretty high draft pick, Sauer had one really good season, though he might turn into something.
  16. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 09:14 PM) I am saying that could be, not that it will be, his potential if he reaches the major. Isn't that part of evaluating prospects? Projecting what they would be at the majors? Evaluating prospects is all inclusive, not just "if he makes it to the majors he'll do this or that". Obviously Kevan Smith could hit 290 with 20hrs a year, but the odds of that happening are very slim, we'd be lucky if he even makes it to the majors in a backup role. You're talking about a borderline all star catcher, that is his ceiling, not his likely outcome
  17. QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 20, 2011 -> 12:45 PM) Personally, I can see him being a .290 hitter, 20+ HRs, and has decent eye at the plate. That would be great but thats a pretty generous evaluation for someone who's played a half season of rookie ball. I think we'd be lucky if he ever even makes it to the majors.
  18. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 12, 2011 -> 11:53 AM) Where have I heard this name before? You're thinking of Eric Stoltz, he played Rocky in the movie Mask with Cher in it. Pretty sweet pic, he had that elephant man face and all, he was also in Pulp Fiction which was a good film too.
  19. Dunn was awful but going forward I'll take him over Crawford for a couple reasons. 1. New league, new pitchers etc... 2. His deal is shorter for less money 3. Crawford's game is mostly based around his athleticism and he is getting older. There is a better chance that his game continues its decline while Dunn could very possibly have a bounce back season. I'll at least say that it's more likely Dunn will bounce back next year. At least we know that he couldn't be any worse. Just for this season Dunn was obviously the worst, but I'll still take him over Crawford or Werth for that matter going forward.
  20. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Oct 2, 2011 -> 04:40 PM) van dyck talks to maddon, martinez about sox job Sounded like he was interviewing for the job in the article explaining all the ways that he'd be an awesome coach and all the reasons that he'd want to coach in chicago specifically.
  21. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 07:28 PM) I don't mean to flame, but why would a hot prospect like Martinez pick Chicago when he's got KW as GM and Dunn/Rios/Peavy problem hamering the ability to acquire guys who can uh, play the game? Why wouldn't good managers wait for a better situation? Sox job isn't really attractive with KW supplying the players IMO. Id say that it wouldn't be a bad job for a couple of reasons, 1. It's a team with great history and is in a big market 2. The team isn't afraid to spend some money to try to compete (Im not saying that you have to spend money to compete but its nice that the owner is willing to open up the pocket book as opposed to the A's, Marlins, et al..) 3. If you become one of Jerry's "guys" he is loyal to the ends of the earth, it is really nice to know that the boss has your back at all times. For those of you who have worked for a s***ty boss who'll throw you under the bus at any moment you can understand why this is a really nice thing. I'm not saying that the Sox are a great landing spot or anything but just playing devil's advocate, those are the reasons that I personally would want to coach the chi sox
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 1, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) If the Sox hired Martinez, do you think he'd bring in Sandberg to be the bench coach? Id love that just to see all the cubs fans weep that sandberg is coaching for the enemy
  23. I was a David Cook fan but probably Chris Carter and/or Brandon Allen. Thought that one of the two would have taken over for a broken down Pauly by this season with PK playing spot duty, DHing and providing veteran leadership.
  24. QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Aug 21, 2011 -> 04:46 PM) Saladino a double shy of the cycle. In ~350 ABs he has 43 XBH. If he cuts down on his K totals just a bit...watch out. His K's have gone down as the season has progressed. He started the season with a wrist or hand injury I believe and was striking out a lot but he has progressively gotten better in the K department. Right now he has a k rate of about 23% which isn't horrible, ideally he'll get it down under 20% which is a number I can live with, especially considering how much power he hits for and the fact that he has a decent BB rate too.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2011 -> 06:55 PM) This thread is the posting equivalent of hitting into a triple play. +1
