  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) Your agenda wouldn't be anymore clearer then if you just came out and said "I live to suck off the Twins." Ha. That made me laugh. Also, i'm not too worried about Gibson just yet, I'll have to see him get at least one major league hitter out before i start shaking in my boots.
  2. QUOTE (goblue5699 @ May 2, 2010 -> 12:23 AM) Dodgers OF prospect Andrew Lambo was suspended 50 games for PEDs. I only mention it because I remember a few guys on here saying how much they liked his game. I recall that as well, i'm curious what he was taking as he has put up some impressive power numbers in the past. update, article on ESPN speculates on what it was, looks like it wasn't a PED
  3. I was reading a writeup by John Sickels about the '10 draft pitching class and saw this written about our former draft pick. for the rest of you draft-niks and prospect watchers here's the page with the full write up plus some others to be found. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2010/4/22/1...r-the#storyjump
  4. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 30, 2010 -> 05:35 PM) Good simple format Dan. I like it. +1 They should all look like this.
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 01:29 PM) Aardsma would be on our roster. Masset would be long man, in Carrasco's underrated role, and spot starter. Cooper could keep working w/ him. I would start Uribe as much as Ozzie plays Vizquel, who's 10+ years older and washed up. Swisher would be DH or sharing time in the OF with Andruw Jones. Matsui/Damon could also be signed with all the money we're using on Rios. I think he had a pretty good year overall last year, you disgree? Willie Harris could be doing better than Pierre for a fraction of the cost. So could Ryan Sweeney. Swisher wouldn't really have much of a role on this team, i'd much rather have Jones in the OF or DH than Swish. Willie Harris has been in the league long enough that it's evident to everyone in baseball that he is not a starter. He can be effective in short spurts and as a bench player, Pierre is just having a slow start, look at his career BA of 300 if you want an idea of the kind of production we can expect from him. Matsui or Damon don't bring anything to the table that Rios isn't doing for us, except that neither of them can field anymore and they're both much older. The grass is not ALWAYS greener.
  6. QUOTE (Dizzy Sox @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) Wow, 7 SB against Carlos Santana (1 CS). I guess he really is a Victor Martinez clone. exactly what i was thinking, they came off of different pitchers too.
  7. Gilmore is obviously making lots of contact, i wonder if he just has a swing that isn't conducive letting him use his raw power or if he's just getting unlucky. My money says that he has a swing that is geared for contact rather than power as he's never really hit for much pop at any level so far.
  8. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 06:25 PM) And btw, I think Trayce Thompson ends up a top-25 prospect in all of baseball, he is definitely our top prospect since Borchard in terms of ceiling (granted Borch never reached it). I'm really trying to temper my enthusiasm for him at this point because he's so young in his career but it is really hard not to be excited about him in watching the level of improvement that he's shown so far. A couple days ago i was on a reputable scouting website that did a write up on him talking about his fast start, i don't remember the exact wording that they used but they said something to the effect that "super talented high round picks like him usually spend their offseason in one of two ways, either enjoying their signing bonus or working. It's obvious that Trayce spent his winter working." They also mentioned how the Sox organization was impressed with his work ethic during minor league camp.
  9. Gilmore still hitting well 64 ab's into the season. .375/.400/.469/.869 line. Obviously he won't sustain that ridiculous avg, but, there's a chance that this is his breakout season. I have my fingers crossed with him, maybe as his avg goes down some of those doubles start turning into HR's.
  10. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 08:33 PM) This. Unless he's hitting like .450 by June (or a 1.000+ OPS), he's got a good one year ticket to stay in Kanny the whole year. I'm not opposed to giving him 100ab's at W-S provided he 1. keeps mashing at Kanny 2. cuts his k rate and 3. shows that he could use the challenge (this is a much more subjective measure here and totally up to the team's coaches and the Sox brain trust.) I'd hate to see him crushing the ball at Kanny all season and get bored, when you get bored you stop growing, learning, and getting better. That being said I don't think that there are too many people in and out the organization who at the beginning of the season wouldn't have been ecstatic if you told them that he'd have 3 HR's and 2B's through his first 25 ab this year, myself included.
  11. QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 01:12 PM) It really would be something if he continues to hit well and forces a callup to High-A this season. I know 1 thing for sure, Thompson/Mitchell would be fun to watch progress next season. It's always fun to watch a prospect really work hard and improve from one year to the next. Thompson looked like crap last year in Bristol, he had terrible contact rates, a K % around 33 i think and no power numbers to boot. Now all of a sudden he's really swinging the bat well. I suppose the scouts know what they're doing sometimes (although it's too early to crown him the next big thing just yet)
  12. Kanny wins in 20, Colligan with the game winning double.
  13. Kannapolis is in the 19th inning right now, still 2-2
  14. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 19, 2010 -> 09:00 PM) You know it. And a change up too. You beat me to it, i was going to say to teach him the change. A good slider never hurt either.
  15. They just said that AJ has sucked so far this year and we have Flowers crushing in AAA, how much longer will the team wait blah blah blah. There was nothing more than pure speculation.
  16. Charlotte http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...dubaaa_chraaa_1 BHam http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/gameday...jaxaax_biraax_1 W-S http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...wswafa_myrafa_1 Kanny http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...kanafx_hicafx_1
  17. The W-S team has some pretty exciting players to watch with their sick pitching staff and several position players who could distinguish themselves this year in Gilmore, Escobar, and my pre season sleeper prospect Brandon Short who is making me look smart so far though this is admittedly a small sample size.
  18. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 16, 2010 -> 03:42 PM) I bet he got hurt celebrating, check out the pic on the front page of the Dash website. didn't see any picture, but, on a side note, there is a great pic of seth loman in the team leaders area. he looks developmentally disabled.
  19. Remenowsky is throwing down in W-S already, wonder if he'll be given the chance to go to Birmingham this season. I hope so, he's too old for his league and needs to be challenged. Also, Retherford is doing what he's done at every level, hit the crap out of the ball. He could end up replacing Nix before too long if he keeps it up.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 11:04 PM) I still think Linebrink has to prove he can protect 1-2-3 run leads in the 7th and 8th before any team would think about taking that contract. It would be one thing if it was just this season, but it's also 2011, correct? With the shift in the economic climate in the last two offseasons, I just think there's only about 5 teams in baseball that would dare to take a risk with Linebrink's contract at this latter stage in his career. yes we have him signed for 5 mil in 2011 as well. i could also see us throwing 1-2 mil in the pot so we could get a bit more value out of a Linebrink trade that would also open up the number of teams who would be willing to take him.
  21. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Apr 15, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) : And it's amazing to watch Sergio Santos! totally agree with you. i was very unsure about him going into this season but his stuff is fantastic and i feel pretty confident when they throw him out there. btw, our bullpen had 12k's against the BJ's today, in 6IP, that's unreal.
  22. QUOTE (Pants Rowland @ Apr 14, 2010 -> 07:57 PM) Mock and sneer all you want. Buehrle's opening day "Webgem" is the measuring stick for all other defensive plays in 2010 a On ESPN they have been judging other pitcher's good defensive plays on the Buehrlemeter, pretty sweet, hopefully they keep that up all year.
  23. Chuck Norris wears Mark Buehrle underwear.
