  1. On his trip to the White House CQ anointed himself the new Secretary of Pain.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 11:03 AM) So I did not see Carlos working on his swing at the White House... He hit a copy of the national budget with his bat so hard that afterwards it balanced itself.
  3. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2009 -> 05:30 AM) How was Wassermann "recalled"? I don't get that. Also, sad to see Bunky Kateon released. Isn't he the guy that was all set to go to law school, and the Sox convinced him to give playing a shot? law school is still there for him. i'm just sad to see our organizational players named Bunky number drop to zero.
  4. you all need to play nice. As far as Viciedo, I just read an article that says the biggest adjustments that cuban players have to make are the lifestyle which i'm sure is quite the culture shock for them and also the way the pitchers pitch. american pitchers work their pitches in different sequences and throw diff. stuff in certain situations than they do in cuba so it's a big change for him and he's just guessing at the plate right now. I think the fact that he's not striking out a s*** ton and has a decent average tells me that he's not totally overmatched which is a really good sign considering that he's a 19 year old playing AA ball which is generally where you find the players with the most raw talent in any minor league level. I'll give him to the all star break, if he's regressing then you look to make a change, otherwise give the kid some time.
  5. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 10:06 AM) Well, it's only three games, I imagine something will occur Thursday or Friday. If they want him in the majors, then Jerry Owens could be on borrowed time. If they want him in Charlotte or to continue his rehab up there, Keith Ginter may be in trouble. I'm not sure if he has any options left to be sent to AAA unless it's still considered a rehab assignment. If not we have to send him up to the big club or put him on waivers and with the way he played in spring he prolly won't make it through.
  6. QUOTE (scenario @ Apr 20, 2009 -> 12:26 PM) Although, I could see a scenario where he becomes BA's backup soon. According to JPN, Nix just started a 3-day rehab assignment in Birmingham. If he's ready to come back, I could picture Nix taking Owen's spot on the roster... which would probably result in Lilli getting time in CF. sounds about right
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 18, 2009 -> 04:59 PM) Beckham snapped out of the 0-10. 2-2, single, double, stolen base. I still think that he's washed up
  8. This is just an organizational depth move. Their junk for our junk, our junk is younger and may turn into an effective reliever someday (prolly not) and their junk is older with no ceiling to speak of. The main difference is that their junk has had some AB's in the majors and our junk has never been above AA. So the junk that we got is more useful to us in the immediate future.
  9. QUOTE (Felix @ Apr 13, 2009 -> 09:08 PM) One question: Why not? see what i wrote above about Jose Canseco's escapade onto the pitcher's mound. Position players aren't pitchers and don't have their arms/shoulders/elbows on the same strengthening program as full time pitchers do. if they get a dumb idea and try throwing some offspeed junk the probability of an injury is much greater
  10. Canseco did that when he played for the Rangers, he blew out his elbow throwing some offspeed junk and missed the rest of the season.
  11. QUOTE (BearSox @ Apr 9, 2009 -> 06:30 AM) Sounds about right, but you gotta swap Kuhn and Escobar. Escobar was supposedly a pretty good defensive SS last year, and from everything I read about Kuhn, he won't be able to cut as a SS. I really like Kuhn, he seems very similar to Chris Getz, IMO. thats what i was thinking. kuhn is a offensive player and escobar is considered one of the best defensive infield prospects in the organization
  12. opening day of baseball, basketball playoffs about to start, march madness and the nfl draft. this is the most amazing time of the year for the sports fan, i watched 4 baseball games and the ncaa championship game yesterday
  13. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Apr 6, 2009 -> 05:49 PM) that and the fact that if colon and contreras stay healthy(yea thats a huge if) , we have 5 potential aces. no other team in our division can say that. I wouldn't go so far as to say aces but we definitely have the makings of the most solid rotation in the division. I really think that right now we have fewer questions than any other team, it's only a matter of time b4 the count and doughboy get completely healthy if not already.
  14. I've read that he's pretty poor at 1B and could be a future DH in the making if he doesn't improve. However, he is a good athlete and has lost weight recently so if he continues to work hard who knows. Pujols used to be a pretty crappy fielder and now he's gold glove level.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2009 -> 02:28 PM) Escobar with a solid single for his first hit of the spring. I guess he'll be playing in Winston-Salem behind Beckham in the pecking order. Beckham will be playing in b ham
  16. It didn't even cross my mind that a bunch of you are probably pretty stoked to have Cutler coming to Chicago. I'm a Raiders fan so I think he's pretty much a whiney douchebag but I'm also glad that we don't have to play him twice every year anymore. The Bears sure gave up a lot to get him but his arm strength will certainly be useful in the winter months.
  17. There's a reason why he's a 29 year old who spent the season in AAA and hasn't ever really gotten a full time chance at the bigs and that reason is injuries. He's had major back problems for a long time and was out of the game for a couple years, from about 06-07 I think. He's had a couple of vertebrae fused and you never really know if his back will hold out long term. He's also a butcher at 3B but that's besides the point. Also- I doubt he'd want to sign with us as he wouldn't really have much of a chance at playing time. We've got Fields and Viciedo blocking him not to mention pretty good organizational depth at 3rd with Retherford and Morel in the lower levels. He'll probably sign with a team where he could legitimately get some PT like the Yankees or he could even sign with the Twins and they could have two 3B with bad backs.
  18. QUOTE (TheBigHurt @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 02:00 AM) It's an April Fool joke obviously. But it's not that big of one. Even if this is true it's nothing earth-rattling. Out for the season after slipping in the tub? LOL. Come on, that's the best you got? QUOTE (chwhtsox @ Apr 1, 2009 -> 05:59 AM) Seriously? Wise is suppose to get people upset around here? Go big or stay home...shoulda said Quentin reinjured the wrist, they're moving Wise to left and Owens to Center. The rage doesn't allow them to think rationally and realize it's April 1st. Step it up man... I wasn't trying to go big. Wanted something somewhat believable. Also, thought it would be funny to think of having JO back on the team after so many have been waiting years for us to dump him only to bring him back a couple days later.
  19. Apparently DW hurt his knee pretty badly slipping in the bathtub at home, he might be out for the season, the team has pulled Jerry Owens off of waivers and he'll be our everyday CF and leadoff going into the season. HOLY CRAP, I thought JO was gone forever. http://rotoworld.com/sox_wise/13{
  20. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Mar 30, 2009 -> 09:58 PM) We take a look, if things go well maybe we can make a deal with him and then see a young guy If things go really well, then it's a win If things revert to bad, we see a young guy In my view he's not keeping out anyone who is blistering awesome AS WELL as being well suited for relief, so we'll go with it. agreed. we don't have any young bullpen arms that are breaking down the doors to get into the majors so I personally want to see what he can do. we are a bit short on quality righties in our pen so it definitely strengthens the team to have him performing well.
  21. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 03:24 PM) Lillibridge with his 3rd hit of the day... a ground-rule double driving in a run. maybe he's starting to figure it out, hope so.
  22. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 03:08 PM) If you think cracking 100 K is bad discipline then you'll be shocked to see how many highly touted prospects K at a much higher rate than that. Of current and former top prospects in our organization, Fields, Anderson, Nix, Allen and Flowers have cracked that. Shelby would have easily cracked that last year if he'd have played a full season, Viciedo will almost certainly crack that if he's down there all year, so will Jordan Danks, and it just goes on. Beckham and Getz are pretty rare. Why do you think Jeremy Reed was such a huge prospect for us? Lilli actually walks (through his minor league career) at a pretty good rate (career .352 minor league OBP). I'm sorry but you will never convince me that 129 K's vs 36 BB's as he had last season is anything but a terrible K/BB ratio, on top of that, he's a leadoff type hitter, not a slugger. Power hitters will always K more often than speed guys.
