  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:57 PM) 177/381=2.15 I think 3-1 isn't beyond the realm of possibility, at worst, 4-1 for the last player on the bench. We can live with it because of all the other skills he brings to the table. Seems like he was trying too hard to impress his teammates and justify the trade in the first 2-3 weeks of ST. could be, i'm just playing devils advocate. he certainly has been hitting much better over the last couple weeks and he got off to about as bad a start as he could have.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 03:02 PM) Who is this Gregory Infante the Sox just put in to replace Danks ??? minor leaguer iirc
  3. QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:49 PM) Check his minor league stats out. They're a much better indicator of his ability than a few AB in ST are. 2008 (AAA, MLB): 36 BB, 123 K, about 1 BB for every 3.4 K 2007 (AA, AAA): 40 BB, 119 K, about 1 BB for every 3 K 2006 (A, A+): 87 BB, 104 K, about 1 BB for every 1.2 K 2005 (A-): 14 BB, 35 K, about 1 BB for every 2.5 K Obviously the small sample size in ST isn't the end all for him, but based on those numbers and now looking at his minor league numbers, he does not have good plate discipline, in aa and aaa he put up some big k numbers and those numbers will almost assuredly increase in the majors unless he makes some major changes in his approach
  4. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 02:14 PM) For all of our worry about Lillibridge, his avg is up to .266. That's not too bad. Yeah but he has a horrible OBP and his BB/K ratio is horrendous, like 1/20
  5. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:45 PM) Since we're talking "fake prospects" and we're playing the D-Backs, I'll add Luis Terrero to the list. i remember watching a game in 07 where he got a start and the announcer said he was a legit 5-tool prospect
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:35 PM) Well, compared to Owens/Wasserman/Gonzalez in 2007, this is like heaven to have all these legitimate prospects. .the White Sox seem to have more faith in him than the Braves ever did, that has worked miracles in the last decade with players other organizations have given up on. We'll see if it can happen again this time. true
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 29, 2009 -> 01:31 PM) Didn't Cabrera say the problem wasn't calling the scorer but contacting someone in the White Sox FO to take up the case for him? That sounds a lot better than for a player actually trying to call the press box to me...still, glad we've moved on from a financial standpoint and we can't help but be excited about Getz, Ramirez, Lillibridge and Beckham. I can manage to temper my excitement over Lillibridge
  8. box score counts Wise as getting a triple, no error on Young.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Mar 28, 2009 -> 07:13 PM) I hope C.J. makes him eat those words. CJ is pretty grindy. An undrafted FA who keeps moving up in the system
  10. How is it that Lilli is considered a defensive asset when he has 5 errors so far this spring??? Thats a big number for so few games. Second question-- how is it that this guy was once considered a top prospect, as far as I can tell he doesn't really have any baseball skills other than speed.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 27, 2009 -> 12:29 PM) Just curious...what's the source for this move? I saw on MILB that he's listed on the Birmingham roster, but how reliable is that? On CJ Retherford, I haven't really followed him, but based on his 2008 I don't see how he could be asked to repeat Winston-Salem. If he's a good 3B, I hope he's moved up to Birmingham. He could be a nice trade piece. He absolutely deserves the promotion. He was an undrafted free agent coming out of Arizona St. and hasn't done anything but mash the ball since we signed him and stuck him at 3B
  12. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 05:14 PM) Gammons says the rumor is Boras wants $50 million for him and will send him to Japan if he doesn't get it. The draft must be slotted. I know that's what he's saying but it will never happen. To date I think that the largest contract to a draft pick has been about 12 million. 50 mil is 4x the biggest ever contract, that is just not going to happen, BUT, to think that he'd get about 20 million, that could be a real possibility.
  13. QUOTE (rangercal @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 08:56 AM) Top Tier organizations would call it a need. Respectfully disagree. Honestly, how many teams have a true leadoff hitter i.e. high OBP base stealing threats??? Jose Reyes, Sizemore, Victorino, Ichiro, Ellsbury, Figgins, Brian Roberts. Am I missing anyone?? The rest of the league gets by with guys who have some deficiencies in their leadoff capabilities so I'm just not too concerned going into the season with Getz or Ramirez in the 1 spot.
  14. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Mar 26, 2009 -> 02:26 AM) i don't get where people think the Yankees will get a prospect like Poreda or Allen for Melky. Those are the type of prospects that get you use to get high value players in return. Cabrera is going to be a backup CF in New York. Sure they can ask for the likes of Poreda but there's no way any team is going to give high level prospects for Cabrera. I totally agree. They can go ahead and ask for the moon but they won't get it. If they actually want to move him they're going to have to take a mid-level package or else just sit on him. A top prospect like Poreda or even Brandon Allen would be ridiculous.
  15. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 10:23 PM) Wasn't Morel drafted this year? He can't be traded yet. The Yankees would just trade us Melky for a "Player to be named later" and then whenever June rolls around whatever day he signed on we can then give him to the Yanks.
  16. I think that right now would be a great time to buy low on Cabrera. He's only 24 so I doubt that he's peaked career wise. I think that we could dangle someone like Brent Morel to get Melky. We have too many 3B right now anyways with Morel, Fields, Viciedo, and another guy who's name escapes me right now. Not to mention Betemit, the Yanks certainly could use some backup for A-Rod
  17. Yeah, I don't really think that anyone would be "surprised" to see Getz have a good season
  18. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 04:15 PM) Lillibridge struckout again? Wow, that's a 1/22 BB/K for the spring. that must not be much fun for him, a professional athlete to be so overmatched
  19. QUOTE (lostfan @ Mar 25, 2009 -> 02:23 PM) I could have SWORN Melky Cabrera got traded to the Brewers or somebody like that. Am I out of my mind? Was it another Yankee? don't think so. it definitely wasn't melky. maybe you're thinking about the proposed mike cameron to the yankees trade??
  20. Good look at how the roster is shaping up heading into the last week of spring training.
  21. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 04:06 PM) Kroeger 2 for 2 . Am I nuts for entertaining thoughts of keeping Kroeger and one of Owens or Wise is gone ? yes, they are all leftys
  22. QUOTE (chunk23 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) Is it possible that Betemit is starting to match what scouts once saw in him? His bat seems better than a bench player. i try not to get too excited about spring training performances from guys who have been in the league for a while. hopefully he can carry this over into the regular season though
  23. QUOTE (BearSox @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 01:33 PM) I think there's a good shot we'll see Beckham go straight to Charlotte. I'd be surprised to see him at Charlotte. Very rarely do they jump second year players that far up.
  24. He has to be leading off for us, we really don't have anyone else who can do it. I'm also glad to see that we'll probably send Beckham down to AA for at least a couple months, maybe more.
  25. I've been waiting for him to take over for a year now. Good for him, i think he'll bring a lot to the team.
