  1. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Jul 25, 2008 -> 01:51 PM) So does Joe Crede on well manicured properly lit fields. I wasn't talking about Crede nor was I making a comparison. I was just answering the question as to whether or not he is good defensively. Regardless of him learning a new position 20 errors in about a half season is a lot, be it on well kept fields or A ball fields. Who knows how he's going to develop in the future, and I hope that he turns into a great fielder and pro baseball player but the fact remains that as of right now he is a poor fielding 3rd baseman
  2. I hate to be a wet blanket but he does have 20 errors on the season so far.
  3. No way. The question I continue to ask regarding pitchers we're rumored to be interested in is are they better than what we have in AAA or bullpen right now? In the case of Washburn, I say no, I don't think he's so much better than the other options we have that I'd be willing to take on his contract and part with a prospect to get him.
  4. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Jul 23, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) 200 innings a year, 111ERA+, 1.25 WHIP, and a huge GB/FB is 4th/5th starter material these days? sign me up He also plays in the weakest division in the NL, what happens to his whip and era when he has to face Detroit's lineup on a regular basis? My point is that I don't see him being that much of an upgrade over the Count or Masset/Richard/Broadway etc... Our rotation is pretty set 1-4 with Buerhle Danks Floyd Vasquez. I'd rather get the draft picks for O-Cab at the end of the season than trade him for a middling starter and weaken our lineup/defense for the rest of the season
  5. I'll puke if we move Uribe just so we can overpay to get Brian Roberts and then trade a Type-A free agent for a #4-5 starter in Lowe. We've got plenty of options in AAA and our bullpen before we have to trade away O-Cab
  6. Charlotte loses to Indianapolis 5-2 David Cook 3-4 Richar 1-5 with a 2B and 2RBI Brad Eldred back in the lineup after a broken hand kept him out for the last month or so. goes 1-3 Egbert 6IP 5R 2ER 5K gets the loss Birmingham vs. Mississippi postponed Winston-Salem loses to regular Salem 6-4 Retherford 2-3 with a 2B 1RBI and 1BB also his 20th E on the season Shelby 2-5 1RBI 19th SB on season Kannapolis vs. Savannah postponed Great Falls losing to Ogden 10-3 in the 8th Gerst 0-4 Grace 3-3 Bristol loses to Kingston 3-0 in rain shortened game Silverio 0-2 2K Dubler 1-2 2B Castillo 2-3, avg up to .377 but almost no power for a 1B
  7. QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Jul 22, 2008 -> 02:10 AM) The only problem with him is that he hits lefty and his batting average against righties is .083 this year at Charlotte. So not the ideal backup for A.J. That's actually not bad, that means that AJ can sit against lefties and he can play
  8. Charlotte loses to Louisville 9-4 Getz has a good game going 3-3 with 2bb Wasserman got roughed up a bit, gave up 3er in 1IP Birmingham loses to Montgomery 6-4 Brandon Allen had his first bad game in AA 0-4 with 2K W-S had the day off Kannapolis loses to Savannah 8-6 Escobar 2-5 with a 2B, Gallager 1-5 with his 8th hr Great Falls loses to Ogden 5-0 GF team gets no runs despite getting 10 hits to Ogden's 6 hits. Gerst 2-5 with a 3B and 3K Bristol loses to Kingsport 3-1 Silverio 1-2 with a BB and a K Lin goes 5IP, 1ER 1BB and 6K but gets the loss Sox farm teams get the 0-fer today.
  9. Richard is probably the replacement for Jose who was DL'ed and Carassco called up to replace him, carassco is the long man so i'm guessing Richard will get JC's next start
  10. Charlotte loses to Louisville 5-2 Haeger with the L now 8-8. Fields 2-4 with a 2B Birmingham wins in 10 over Montgomery 5-3 Cassel gets the start and gives up 1ER in 6IP, his era down to 2.89. W-S loses to Myrtle Beach 8-3 Texiera pitches 2 innings, no ER, his era down to 0.93. Retherford is 3-4 with a 2B on the night. Kanny loses 3-1 to Charelston Fleisher hits another HR and has an OPS of over 1.000 but he's also 24 going on 25 so just an organizational player GF loses to Ogden 5-2 Gerst not in the lineup tonight for some reason. Hope he's not injured again Bristol loses to Johnson City in 10, 8-7 Silverio 1-3 with a 2B and 2bb and 0k which is nice to see since he's only got 4bb on the season and 25k. also had his 11th E on the season. Kendall went 2-5 with a 2B. He may be a player, was an '07 draft pick but didn't play at all last season because of a broken finger.
  11. QUOTE (chimpy2121 @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 09:31 PM) You guys just didn't wana listen nobody really thought he would sign, of all the tough sign draft picks in probably the entire draft he was the one who didn't need the money
  12. QUOTE (earthshiner @ Jul 18, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) I'd think we'd be better winners and losers. You hit the nail on the head. Cubs fans kinda remind me of Red Sox fans, they'll talk a grip of sh** when they're winning but as soon as they lose they get very sore about it and don't want to hear anything (although that seems to be more of a Boston thing than just a R Sox thing)
  13. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 05:02 PM) Too bad you don't look at results for the truth. He's been GM for 10 seasons. They made the playoffs 5 times. They had 6 90+ win seasons, 1 88 win season and 1 87 win season, all with a budget less than most teams including the White Sox. Not saying that Billy doesn't know how to assemble a talented team but in any of those seasons have the A's REALLY been a contender or just good teams without the juice to go all the way. I like what Billy does in working with a low payroll but he does continue to sell off all of his talent for prospects seemingly year after year. This goes all the way back to Giambi, Mulder, Hudson, Tejada, Haren, Harden, Blanton, anybody else that I've forgotten? I'm sure there is, the only big name player that they signed to a long term deal was Eric Chavez who has had his career derailed by injuries. Guess my point is that eventually you have to stop selling off your talent and take a shot at winning it all. In the late 90's early 00's he had a rotation of Tim Hudson, Mark Mulder, and Barry Zito yet chose to break up the trio by trading Hudson and Mulder, at that point all three of them were dominant pitchers, if you aren't going to make a run at the title with those three anchoring the staff, Keith Foulke closing games and Giambi, Tejada, and Dye in the lineup then when are you???? He doesn't seem willing to take the necessary risk to make a title run. That is one thing that I respect about KW- at least he's got balls.
  14. Price gave up 3 hr's today in 5 innings. hadn't given up a hr all season, about 100IP. nice
  15. QUOTE (scenario @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 02:31 PM) Brandon Allen was promoted to Birmingham. nice, bout time. i think that he's got some real potential. not only does he hit for great power but he's got a decent average and can even steal a base, I think he's got about 15 swipes right now. i'm excited to see how he performs at the higher level
  16. QUOTE (dasox24 @ Jul 17, 2008 -> 02:07 PM) Thank you. It's amazing how some people have the audacity to take what should be a pretty cool thread about the President of the United States following Danks' career and turn it into a political attack on Bush. This is baseball, not politics. I'm disappointed in a few good posters who surprised me with their political comments... Doesn't really surprise me, politics are always a hot button topic, plus the fact that we're in the middle of the presidential campaign and then finally the polarizing nature of GW's current policies and the financial/political/global uncertainty that exists in the country today. Because of all these variables taking place at the same time it has created a bit of a perfect storm that really gets people's blood boiling no matter what side of the fence they may sit. I think we can just expect to see responses like this regarding any political type issues or in this case just the mere mention of a politician until the election is well past us.
  17. QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Jul 16, 2008 -> 04:47 PM) Was Jenks DL stint retroactive, or is he going to have to wait a few games to rejoin the team? Retro
  18. Charlotte, Birmingham, Kannapolis, and Great Falls all have the night off Winston-Salem over Kinston 10-2 Allen goes 2-4 and with a 2b and Shelby 2 for 2 with a 3b and 2rbi. Both have a .279 avg. Texiera closes the game and his era is now at .098 Bristlos loses to Danville 6-5 Lin with the start goes 7IP 0R 3BB 2K. his ERA down to 3.05 Silverio goes 0-4 with 3K ouch Ken Gilbert in his second pro season is batting .296 with an OPS of .800 he's also only 19, may be a prospect
  19. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 10:45 AM) Thing is though, Silverio is (supposedly) 16. Even if he does one year at each level - Bristol, GF, Kanny, W-S, B-Ham and Charlotte - he'll only be 21 at Charlotte. So he's basically fast track by nature. I get the impression that they won't rush him. Regier has been quoted as saying they don't want to rush the younger players too much (like they did with Valido). He's actually 17 now so he'd be 22 at charlotte
  20. Charlotte is off Birmingham is off W-S vs. Kinston Bobby Jenks got the start and went 1IP with 1ER and 3H. Brandon Allen went yard for #15 on the season, Shelby is 2 for 3 with a 2b Kannapolis vs. Rome Game 1- Shirek with the start, Escobar 2 for 3 game 2 Kannapolis vs. Rome Bristol vs. Danville Silverio breaks out of a slump going 2 for 4 with his 3rd HR and 4 rbi's. He also has his 10th error on the season. ouch Great Falls vs. Ogden Gerst with a BB and a SB already He has 4 sb with 0 cs, obp of .447 and an ops of almost 1.200 Its time to move him up to Kanny
  21. I'm not really interested in him, i think this year his performance is an abberation and he'll level out after the break. I looked into his #'s a bit and found a breakdown of his season which pretty much sums up what I already thought about him
  22. I've always heard that Quentin was an above-average fielder, according to some coming into this season he was good enough to contend for our starting CF position so i'm not too worried about him. also, he's such a hard worker and a professional that if he's having any problems in the of he'll definitely put in the work to get better in the offseason
  23. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 05:39 PM) I haven't seen any word on Beckham in a loooooong time. It would be nice to have him get some pro ball in this year. Not to mention that the "all but signed" Jordan Danks is still not signed. seriously, it would be nice to know if any progress is being made or if they're even in contact. Nothing has happened on the signings front for a while
  24. Anyone know why Kent Gerst hasn't been playing? I checked the roster and it doesn't say anything about him being injured. I thought he was a top prospect
