  1. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Dec 16, 2008 -> 03:50 PM) KW has said about 100 times thats Getz and Fields will be starting the season at 3b and 2b unless a guy like Viciedo and Beckham/Nix beat them in ST. Our infield is set. THe OF is KWs next area of focus. As of right now, there is no 'sure' CF AND with all the Dye trade rumors swirling around, I can see Quentin shifting to RF. That leaves LF and CF open. Does KW give Brian Anderson one last shot? Does he let Owens and Wise battle for a spot to become our leadoff hitter? Im not so sure about any of those. I could see KW go after a cheap bargain in Willy Tavarez. He could play LF. Meanwhile, Anderson, Wise and Owens can battle it in ST for CF. If the Sox do trade Dye (which i think they absolutley should), that should give them pleanty of space to sign Tavarez, Blanco AND a Daniel Cabrera type pitcher. Starting Lineup: Getz 2B Ramirez SS Quentin RF Thome DH Konerko 1B Pierzynski C Fields 3B Anderson CF Tavarez LF Rotation: Buerhle, Floyd, Danks, Cabrera, Poreda (wins close ST battle) Bullpen: Jenks, Thorton, Linebrink, Dotel, Richard, Wasserman Bench: Blanco C, Wise OF, Owens OF, Betemit 3b-1b, Lillybridge SS, 2b, Coming up through out the season: Viciedo, Beckham, Flowers, Marquez, Homer Bailey ?? I know i have created a lot of these this offseason, but i truly believe that this is what its going to look like the closest. Listening to what KW had to say about why he is doing what he is doing last saturday really put it all in perspective. He did say it would be his lineup at the end of the season, just saying. I agree with yours for the most part except I don't think Flowers will make it the Show this year unless it's only a couple of at bats in September. I also think the 4 slot will either be occupied by Cabrera or Bailey as well.
  2. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Dec 14, 2008 -> 05:33 PM) Are we suddenly desperate to trade Jermaiune Dye? One of the better clutch hitters and quiet leader and an above average fielde and we give him to the Yankmees for an underperformng pitcher!? I hope we keep JD Like Homer Bailey hasn't underperformed? I'm going by potential.
  3. I would prefer Kennedy over Hughes.

  5. QUOTE (BaseballNick @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 06:36 PM) That would be a great theory if the Sox weren't a team requiring four base hits to score a run. With a team this slow and prone to the rally killing double play, it's incredibly valuable to move the runners up a base. I'm a purist and think every player on the team should be able to bunt, but that's just me. I agree. Every player on a team should be able to put a good bunt down. The thing is, in the minors they only teach them what they need based on their skills. Power hitters that are slow (like a lot of our lineup is) just aren't taught how to bunt or steal bases.
  6. QUOTE (rockren @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:45 PM) I've seen very very little of Getz. Can he bunt? If so, I'd like to see him get the chance. I would like to say that a speedy guy like him would have been taught to bunt in the minors, but we never really have any great bunters in our system..
  7. Getz, Alexei, Beckham, Lillibridge. Take your pick.
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox420* @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) What's the deal with Chris Capulano... when is he supposed to be back from surgery? Who cares? I'd NEVER take a flier on a guy who's had TWO Tommy John Surgeries.
  9. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 01:03 PM) I see Fields getting traded. He strikes out too much and his defense is suspect. He has also had some sort of clubhouse issue. I could be wrong and he seems like a nice guy who could hit a lot of homeruns. Just my gut feeling as a student of KW. Ahhh, I see. I'm not much of a fan of Fields myself, but I still think Kenny is penciling him in at 3B at this point. I don't think that will change either unless Viciedo proves a ton in ST, which would then make a Fields trade imminent, IMO.
  10. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 12:56 PM) Taveras would only be a one year deal with an option. Beckham can play 3rd. DH will be open after next year and Viciedo could play first or DH. It could be done. Taveras can be had relatively cheaply so get him. Furcal will be much more expensive If they can get Furcal, I would hope they would. If they can not get Furcal then, they will have a potential leadoff hitter in Taveras who can steal 68 bases. Are you forgetting about Fields or just not including him in our plans? Just wondering.
  11. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Dec 13, 2008 -> 12:25 PM) The Sox can not start the year without a legit leadoff hitter and at least one more starting pitcher. So, if they got Willy Taveras to play CF and Daniel Cabrera would address those needs and make it less of a priority to trade Dye for a pitcher. Burke would be better than Corky. That said, it would still be nice to add Furcal to leadoff and or trade Dye for Bailey and sign Abreu. But adding Taveras and Cabrera and Taveras would put the Sox in a better bargaining position IMO. Pipe dream master plan lineup Furcal SS Abreu RF TCQ LF Thome DH Konerko 1b Alexei 2b AJ C Fields/Benemit or Viciedo 3b Taveras CF Blazing speed and lethal power MB Danks Floyd Cabrera Bailey with Count, Marquez, CR/AP potentially there to fill in for anyone who does not live up to expectations, fill in for injury, or bolster the pen. Bench Benemit 1b,3b Anderson OF Getz IF Armstrong/Burke/Corky/Stewart C If Furcal is signed, Taveras won't be. If Taveras is signed, Furcal won't be. If Furcal is signed, Alexei would move to CF with Getz/Lillibridge filling in until Beckham comes up. If Taveras is signed, the infield will stay the same. I guess my point is: Kenny is NOT stupid enough to block Gordon Beckham by signing both Taveras AND Furcal.
  12. With the Yanks losing Abreu, they need a RFer. So wouldn't a Dye for Ian Kennedy or Phil Hughes trade make sense for both teams? The Yanks would have no problem eating Dye's contract, and we would get the young starter we want in Kennedy or Hughes. It makes no sense for the Yanks to keep both of Kennedy and Hughes around (or ruining their careers by making them relievers). With the Yanks already signing CC and agreeing to terms with Burnett, it seems like they'll have a clot of starters. I also think they will sign one of Lowe or Sheets as well. Thoughts?
  13. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 08:34 PM) Great find, i'm keeping the faith on this deal for now. Also, for those who were wondering it looks like we have the 24th draft pick for next year. I hope to God the Twins sign O-Cab. Getting the 23rd (Twins) and 24th draft picks would be pretty suhweet.
  14. QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Dec 11, 2008 -> 04:08 PM) Wouldn't mind getting Nick Adenhart from them. I would. As good as he is, he had Tommy John surgery as an 18 year old...
  15. QUOTE (1399 @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 04:25 PM) Thanks man. I appreciate it and really didnt mean to stir the pot but someone said it best earlier when they said there should be breathalizers on the puters. Yes I was hammered with the old lady last night so my angst over last seasons offensive troubles were a bit magnafied. So my appologies to those who were offended. Any more to this rumor? Welcome to the board. Happy Posting.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 11:14 AM) I really kind of want this trade to happen now. I'm really excited at the possibility of all these young arms panning out, plus I'd love to than see Kenny go out and sign an Abreu & Furcal or a Dunn & Furcal. Man would that be awesome. No idea how the team will pan out next year cause with Bailey you have no idea, the rotation might just go up in flames, but man would there be some fun young players on this squad and there I love watching young players develop and perform (hopefully they perform). I'm definitley excited by the possibilities of getting Bailey. The thing the thing I don't like about your scenario is that I'd prefer a trade for Roberts and signing Dunn rather than Furcal or Abreu. With trading for Roberts, Beckham isn't blocked and we get two supplemental draft picks after this year. I'd really like to see what the kid can do.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:26 PM) really? The twins are solid 1-5 rotation, huh? Thats news to me, I'll put our 1-3 against theirs any day of the week. I didn't say that their 1-3 is better than ours. I'm just saying we still have 2 question marks in our rotation. If we put Marquez and Richard in the back of our rotation, then yes, they do have a better overall rotation than we do.
  18. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 11:18 PM) Name me one team in our division that’s certifiably better than us at the moment. Its one thing to be speculative, but we can’t be overly pessimistic. This is baseball, people age; these moves need to happen sooner or later. If this deal happens it’s for one reason only: to get better immediately and for the future. With confidence, I could say that the Twins are better than us. They don't have any questions in their rotation like we do. They also have a better outfield of Cuddyer/Young, Gomez, and Span compared to Quentin, Owens/Anderson, and ??? (if Dye is in fact traded).
  19. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 10:07 PM) And so was Bailey before like 2007. So why does everyone hate this trade? ^! You have no idea how much I hope this trade happens. I am in LOVE with the idea of Bailey coming to the Southside. He's pitched a total of 81.2 f***ing innings in the Majors! Why does more NEED to be included? We would get Bailey and NOT have to pay Dye's contract. Sounds good to me.
  20. Am I the only one doesn't buy any of this Furcal stuff? Besides the fact that we already have a clot in the middle IF, Furcal doesn't fit into Kenny's plans, IMO. #1. He doesn't fit into Kenny's 'youth movement'. He's 31 now, and a mentioned 3 year deal with an option for a 4th would mean he would be 34 or 35 when said deal would run out. #2. He's been hurt. I personally won't take a flier on an aging shortstop who was injured for as long as he was last year. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying he's old right now, just saying he won't be getting any younger. I admit it, he's a damn talented player, if healthy. He also wouldn't cost us a draft pick. The most I would go on him is a 1 year/$12 million deal with an option for a second year at $14 million. I'm really interested to see what the young kids could do, now that we expanded the talent of our farm in the past 6 months. I also don't think Alexei would do as well in CF as he would at a middle IF position.
  21. QUOTE (MHizzle85 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 05:09 PM) False. The person below me has finals to study for next week. True. The person below me enjoys cold weather.
  22. QUOTE (Jimmywins1 @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 04:55 PM) Derek Lowe in a 3/48 deal w/ an option. ^^^
  23. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 4, 2008 -> 10:31 AM) The market for Thome who can only DH and makes $15 million is slim to none and he has a no trade. He's a White Sox. Dye can go. I think the Sox wouldn't mind trading Paulie, but finding a team that really will take him, and he will agree to go to will be tough. If the D-Backs can't afford Randy Johnson at $5 million a year, they aren't trading for Paulie. That would leave the Angels IMO. I think he stays. Does anyone know how much of Thome's '09 salary the Phillies eat? If they are eating least $5 million of it, I think Thome can have some value on the trade market. As for Paulie, the Angels and Giants are the only teams I could think of that need a 1st baseman. Hell, maybe the Rangers could use Paulie as a DH?
  24. 1. Beckham 2. Poreda 3. Flowers 4. Viciedo 5. Allen 6. Danks 7. Getz 8. Lillibridge 9. Gilmore 10. Shelby
  25. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 3, 2008 -> 05:52 PM) I really wonder if KW and Ozzie are thinking of making a run at Manny Ramirez for 2 seasons....although I am petty sure he'll get 3-4 elsewhere. It's not going to be Lowe or Burnett, we know that much. Sabathia and Sheets (because he could be had for less based on injuries, just like Harden) are more likely, but not high probability in any realm of the imagination. Peavy is certainly intriguing to talk about. I would rather pay Peavy big bucks than Dunn or Abreu, someone like that. I keep going back to 2005, and starting pitching wins championships. With all the pieces KW has to play with, I think our offense will be fine, if not much better than 2008 (unless we deal Dye, in which case it would be likely to take until 2010 with Fields, Viciedo, Beckham and even someone like Fernando Martinez making a true impact to see improvement in the offense). As intriguing as Peavy is to talk about, I've read multiple times that he does NOT want to go to any AL teams.
