  1. I'd prefer to deal Dye and Jenks separately. What I'd like is Dye + Lillibridge to the Reds for Bailey and Dickerson (I think someone mentioned this on here earlier today)and Jenks to the Mets straight up for F-Mart (If they don't sign K-Rod). I would do separate deals because #1. Dye has a NTC to the Mets and I feel he is unlikely to accept a trade to them, and #2. I still think VERY highly of Bailey. However, I definitely wouldn't object to a Dye + Jenks for any combination of F-Mart, Murphy, Kunz, Parnell, Pelfrey, and Niese.
  2. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:09 PM) The question I have is who Vaz's money turns into? Hopefully it's like the C-Lee/Pods deal where we got a couple of extra pieces with the $$. Unfortunately, I think the money sits and gets wasted. Draft for next year? Maybe take some fliers on guys with sign-ability issues?
  3. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) I'd take Bailey over Sonnanstine. Bailey is 22 compared to 25 for Sonnanstine and he definitely has a higher potential. It'd be a prototypical KW move. See: Floyd, Gavin. If we were talking Sonnansinte and Bailey I'd definitely take Bailey. His ceiling is enormous. The option he gave was Sonnanstine/Jackson though.
  4. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:04 PM) Is this the 1st KW deal that was reported and went through? Don't jinx it. It hasn't gone through yet. Maybe Javy fails his physical tomorrow and we'd still be stuck with him...
  5. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 07:00 PM) dye to tampa for sonanstine or edwin jackson hmm possibly Get me Sonnanstine. Please and thank you.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 06:33 PM) Very interesting. Could we possibly be prepared to move Alexei to CF? 2010 scenario: 3B Viciedo SS Lillibridge 2B Beckham 1B Fields CF Ramirez RF Quentin LF Shelby? C Flowers I would personally prefer: 3B Viciedo SS Ramirez 2B Beckham 1B Allen CF Danks RF Quentin LF Shelby C Flowers
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) Got any names to throw out there? Furcal? Sabbathia? Im stretching on that last one, but we do need some pitching. Maybe Burnett? Adam Dunn.
  8. QUOTE (EvilJester99 @ Dec 2, 2008 -> 05:18 PM) Could this free up for a Furcal signing? I know it said there is a mystery team that needs to swing a deal to make it work with Furcal....just sayin Depends if we got Escobar as part of the package or not...I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
  9. I really wouldn't mind getting Taveras at all. Only 26 (turns 27 on Christmas Day), plays solid D, extremely fast, and would make a great #9 hitter IMO. Sign me up. Here's an interesting fact about him though: both World Series teams he's been on (2005 Astros, 2007 Rockies) were both swept in their World Series runs.
  10. If we were able to get rid of Thome, I wouldn't mind a Dye for Joey Votto deal.
  11. I think he definitely deserved the M's managerial position but I'm glad he's staying.
  12. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 03:33 PM) Nonsense, we're looking at 2010 for a few of these kids. Oh, I know for a fact that some will reach the Majors by 2010. But with the time it takes for some of them to mature and become comfortable out there, I see 2011 as a target year for a competitive team around the whole diamond.
  13. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Nov 17, 2008 -> 02:42 PM) Pujols was 100% deserving, I don't give a s*** what his team did he was by FAR the best player in baseball this season. ^^^
  14. I honestly believe we can put a competitive team out there by 2011 via our farm.
  15. Besides the fact that he wants to be a starter, he bats left-handed and would require at least 5-7 mil. per year. ( I read the Red Sox were going to offer or already did offer him 14 mil/2 years.) Of course nobody wants to pay that much for a backup catcher.
  16. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 05:22 PM) Billy Beane, Brian Anderson, Joe Borchard, Josh Hamilton, Alex Gordon, Rocco Baldelli, Evan Longoria, Jay Bruce, Nick Markakis, Rick Ankiel, Joe Mauer, Grady Sizemore, Ian Stewart, J.R. Towles, and many more. It may not seem like it, but it's a fairly even line. I don't think race really factors into it. IIRC, Sizmore is half black.
  17. I think it will go #'s 35, 13, and 56. I'd love to see Thome's number 25 being retired by us too (although he hasn't been with us that long, I think he deserves recognition of a great career), I don't see it happening.
  18. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Oct 9, 2008 -> 03:15 PM) I want to point out that Ichiro is probably one of the most overpaid players in the game. Sure he's solid but given everything, including the cost factor to get him (ie players given up) there is absolutely no way the Sox could acquire Ichiro. I wouldn't trade Danks straight up for Ichiro and it would cost the Sox a lot more than that just to get him. If you want to get a CFer, focus on David DeJesus. He'd be a really nice pick-up and you might even be able to trade Swisher straight up for him or get a 3rd team involved. I like the type of player DeJesus is, but to be honest, I'm really tired of trading with KC. We've gotten s*** from them in the past couple of trades.
  19. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 08:50 PM) Anyone else know any historical examples of a team with 3 successful Lefty starters? (Other than, Buehrle, Danks, and Richard) It seems like it could work, but for some in baseball it's a major issue. Sabathia as unlikely as his acquisition would be would have to be slotted as #1. This would mean in a traditional lefty/righty setup, Floyd a Righty as 2, Buehrle #3, Broadway#4, and Danks #5. Now, I don’t know if we’d want Danks as #5 again. Given the enormous improvements he’s made over the last year. This would be subject to change; as If I remember correctly at the beginning of this year it was Buehrle, Vasquez, Danks, Contreras, Floyd, which would change significantly by the end. I agree that you have to split up lefties and righties. However, I disagree with what you said about not wanting Danks as a #5 starter. In my opinion, being #5 is just the day you'd be pitching on, not how good of a pitcher you are. And this whole rotation would be in a scenario with Sabathia, which we all know would be an impossible acquisition. I find it highly unlikely Danks goes #5 next year without a major pitching acquisition.
  20. QUOTE (ChisoxFurrious9 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 08:43 PM) Let's get Rowand back!!! One can only wish....=]
  21. I went with Gavin. I hope it doesn't happen, but out of the listed candidates, I think he would be most likely given his past troubles.
  22. QUOTE (ChisoxFurrious9 @ Oct 7, 2008 -> 05:38 PM) Let's see what you all think about who should be where next year. My lineup as of now is going off who is expected to be on the team next year. 1st = Konerko 2nd = Getz Short=Ramiraz 3rd= Fields Left=Quinten Center=Owens Right=Dye Catch=Piersynski DH=Thome Pitchers=1-Burls, 2-Danks, and 3-Floyd Utility-As much as I hate even thinking about it, Uribe. I only hope he doesn't start, even though I'll bet Guillen will be an idiot and start him at second. 4th Outfield-Wise Oh and hopefully Beckham will move up the ranks in the minors and take over at short sometime during the season and move Ramiraz back to 2nd. Who the hell are Ramiraz, Quinten, and Piersynski? Why do you only have 3 pitchers? My lineup would look like this: SS - Furcal 2B - Ramirez LF - Quentin RF - Dye 1B - Konerko DH - Thome CF - Melky Cabrera, Nate McLouth, or BA C - Pierzynski 3B - Uribe Super-Sub - Getz Rotation: Buehrle, Derek Lowe, Danks, Floyd, Richard I wouldn't mind changing it to Orlando Hudson leading off playing 2B and Alexei batting 2nd playing SS if Hudson would be willing to do a one or two year deal.
  23. QUOTE (DaGame2584 @ Oct 6, 2008 -> 08:33 PM) Also why is everyone so down on Fields? I'll admit I haven't had time to pay attention to the minors as much as I usually do. IIRC, he did s**t in the minors this year. And he needs knee surgery during the offseason.
  24. My biggest wants are: 1. Derek Lowe, 2. C.C. Sabathia (Although he would require too much money for us to nab him), 3. A speedy 3B, SS, 2B, or CF who can hit for average, can steal, and plays solid D (Furcal or Roberts?).
  25. QUOTE (hi8is @ Oct 3, 2008 -> 02:33 AM) I applaud him and completely want this kind of stuff going on. Seriously. Think about it. It's a huge situation and he's facing a young pitcher. He was just trying to rattle him and rally our team. Thats leadership. Did it work? No.... but don't castrate a man for trying. Good job OC - keep up that intensity! IIRC Balfour is 30 years old.
