I know it's been discussed here many, many times before, but I just saw some prospect ratings on John Sickels' site. The A's top 20 prospects for 2010 just came out and Chris Carter's #1 on it with a grade of A-. And the A's have a pretty good system. Sickels had this to say on Carter: 1) Chris Carter, 1B-OF, Grade A-: I just absolutely love this bat, enough to override the questions about defense and give him an A-. He added pure hitting skills to go with the power. Link Carter wouldn't have looked too bad at 1B/DH for us in 2010, IMO. And given Quentin's injury history and down year, I'd probably re-do this one if I could. Personally, I think this is the one that finally comes back and bites Kenny. Now I know what a lot of you are going to say. "Carter's still just a prospect, we'll see next year." "Just look at Quentin's 2008 numbers/potential." etc. So, if you could, would you re-do this one from our team's current outlook? Why or why not?

The Royals have agreed to a 5 year/$7M deal with Arguelles. Arguelles is a 19 year old LHP who defected along with Red Sox SS Jose Iglesias during a tournament in Canada in June 2008. The Royals have a nice collection of young arms now - including, LHP Michael Montgomery, LHP Danny Duffy, RHP Aaron Crow, RHP Tim Melville, to go along with LHP Noel Arguelles. Link.
-
Likely to be Adam Moore. Or Lackey, for that matter.
-
Personally, I'd put Teahan in RF, leave Beckham and Alexei at 3B and SS, and see what C.J. can do at 2B.
-
Does anybody have a BA account that could post our grades? I'm interested to see how we graded out and I think it'd make for a good discussion.
-
Two of the HR's off of Strasburg. You can see C.J.'s. Danks in the video as well.
-
C.J. 3-3 so far with a triple, two singles, and two RBI's. Danks 1-3 with two RBI's.

Link The list: 1. Stephen Strasburg/WAS/RHP 2. Brian Matusz/BAL/LHP 3. Dan Hudson/CHW/RHP 4. Neftali Feliz/TEX/RHP 5. Jeremy Hellickson/TB/RHP 6. Wade Davis/TB/RHP 7. Carlos Carrasco/CLE/RHP 8. Jhoulys Chacin/COL/RHP 9. Madison Bumgarner/SF/LHP 10. Kyle Drabek/PHI/RHP 11. Martin Perez/TEX/LHP 12. Christian Friedrich/COL/LHP 13. Hector Rondon/CLE/RHP 14. Junichi Tazawa/BOS/RHP 15. Mike Leake/CIN/RHP 16. Jon Niese/NYM/LHP 17. Jake Arrieta/BAL/RHP 18. Jenrry Mejia/NYM/RHP 19. Casey Kelly/BOS/RHP 20. Michael Montgomery/KC/LHP 21. Jarrod Parker/ARI/RHP 22. Kevin Mulvey/ARI/RHP 23. Brad Lincoln/PIT/RHP 24. Matthew Moore/TB/LHP 25. Zeke Spruill/ATL/RHP So, do you agree with Hudson's ranking on the list? Do you agree with the rest of the list? Personally, I'd take a handful of guys ranked behind Hudson before I'd take him.

If I trade for Mat Gamel, I'm certainly not sending Floyd UNLESS we traded Alexei first for a top pitching spect/proven pitcher. And if I try to trade for Mat Gamel, I bring up the point that we'd be using him as our DH as to lower his value in any deal.

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 01:55 PM) If there is one, what major league player could you (potentially) compare Dayan to? I like M Cab with less average/OBP.

I think it should be Hudson. We have arguably one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball right now. No point in not giving him top priority for the 5th starter's job. Regardless of what Freddy's done in a small sample size of a few starts, I don't think Hudson belongs in the 'pen.

Construct the best current bullpen of former Sox pitchers

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 04:44 PM) I thought this was a discussion of current pitchers in the league who were once in the Sox organization. I didn't even see the word current, my bad. And technically Foulke is still playing (for the Newark Bears). -

Keith Foulke was awesome in his prime. -
1. We got 26 year old High-A SS Justin Fuller for him. AND we sent money to LA. 2. He's a complete class act. He didn't deserve to go just because Kenny was pissed. 3. We should've traded Dye instead. IMO, we should have kept Thome for next season as a middle-of-the-order LH bat. 4. We could have kept him one more year and had him retire as a member of the White Sox. That would have been nice seeing as he's one of the best LH power-hitters of all time. 5. I'll miss you Big Jim.

Beckham is playing himself out of the ROTY award.

Anybody else follow him on Twitter? Half of his updates have nothing to do with the Sox. I hate when this guy goes on one of his Tweeting binges. Sorry, I know this is off topic and has nothing to do with the Sox.

QUOTE (Tex @ Aug 25, 2009 -> 09:38 AM) 27 up, 27 down and no one reached first. Sounds like a perfect game to me. And by the way, the next time it happens, will be the first. I believe no errors can be made in a perfect game, regardless of whether or not the runner reaches first.

My senior year classes in high school: Men of Faith English IV American History Film Study Ceramics Earth Science and of course, Study Hall. Yeah, I know my senior schedule is a joke.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) Yes, well, assuming you want him. Sure, I'll take him. Can you change the thread title to make it an official AAP? Thanks.

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 07:31 PM) This would work better as an AAP, do you mind if I switch it up for you? That's fine. So he would be mine?

QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:31 AM) You can't make a statement like he could have been one of our starters at a corner OF position based on "well he's athletic so maybe he could play there" mentality. He played 8 games there in Rookie ball 6 years ago. That's it. I didn't say "oh - Brandon Allen would have been our starting LF next season". All I said was that due to his athleticism, we could have simply tried him there. Whether he would be able to stick there or not is unknown.
-
QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Aug 24, 2009 -> 09:25 AM) Gordon Beckham has nice athleticism, should we consider playing him at a corner OF spot then too? Sure, if he didn't have more value as an IF. If we kept Allen, he could have been blocked at 1B. He might be considered athletic enough to play at a corner OF pos., is all.
