QUOTE (joeynach @ Aug 3, 2008 -> 02:18 PM) Does anyone think that the fact that Richard follows Buehrle in the rotation makes things worse off for Richard. He has a similar style to buerhle and throws relatively similar in terms of style and stuff. So in Richards case, even though the teams havent seen him before, its like they have just seen a similar style the day before he pitches. Im not 100% sure but Id say its just not a good way to set Richard up being that he is up here for the first time ever and would have that "never seen before" advantage. I totally agree with you. Today, he did exactly what Buehrle did yesterday. He was almost a carbon copy. Both southpaws, both work fast, and both served up meatballs right in the middle of the plate.
-
This is merely his 3rd start. You cannot put a guy down like that. He's 24 years old and in his last 9 minor league starts he went 9-0 with a 1.-something ERA. The talent in obviously there. His stuff is pretty solid, just needs to work on location, location, location. Doesn't really worry me at all to be perfectly honest. Probably just nerves. I'd like to give him another chance after working with Buehrle, Danks, and Cooper in spring training of next year. He just needs to get over that big inning that he's had in each start and he could be a pretty solid option for us, IMO.

What player would you most like to have seen play for Sox?
DaTank replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Used to be Junior, but since we acquired him, just Mark McGwire. I grew up idolizing him and Junior. -
QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 12:29 AM) Maybe if Konerko would ever get a 2 out RBI hit, none of this would be an issue. Hell, even just a 2 out hit. Or an RBI. Or just a hit at all. Not saying that I support Konerko at all. But just to ignore a great player like Griffey that is actually contributing to help the team out is just plain wrong.
-
I think I saw something today from Konerko that I didn't like. After Griffey came in to score that run and was getting high-fives all around in the dugout, I didn't see Kong give him any love. Jealously of playing time maybe? Or maybe the cameras just never shower it...

QUOTE (TCQ @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 12:17 AM) How bout a tell kenny jr to hang em up option Lol, it's there now. Sorry about the options guys. I threw it up there pretty quickly without mulling everything through.

QUOTE (rangercal @ Aug 2, 2008 -> 12:01 AM) This poll sucks. You should at least have the option Buyout and sign him to a new deal. There you go.

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:59 PM) Konerko's here to stay, so you cut ties with Griffey and use your saved money (from OC, Crede) to get a younger impact guy that can grow alongside CQ et al for years to come. I wouldn't mind getting Orlando Hudson this off season. Though he would most likely require a 10M per year price tag and isn't exactly young (he's 31), he's a Gold Glove 2nd baseman with a .282 career batting average.

QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Aug 1, 2008 -> 11:46 PM) I am as excited as the next guy about Griff, but let's be realistic. Griff with be 39 going into next season. You will see soon enough his range in CF is extremely limited, and thats being kind. Realistically, he is a DH, and the 2nd best one currently on the roster. With the Thome option looking like it will kick in, there probably isn't a spot for JR. next season, even with Konerko possibly gone. Realistically, I can see him as being what Edmonds has been for the Cubs. I think getting a fresh start for Griffey will work wonders. If he stays motivated to win a Title next year (if we don't win this year ), I can see him putting up a up a .260-.270, 25-30 HR, 75-80 RBI season in playing 4 out of every 5 games. Obviously we won't be seeing the Griffey many of us grew up idolizing, but I think he can be pretty solid.
-
Let's say, for the sake of the argument, that Ken Griffey Jr. is just phenomenal for the rest of this season. What do you do with Konerko? What do you do with Swisher? What about Griffey? Who do you trade? Do you let Griffey walk? I know Griffey has only played one game, but if he can keep it up we can have a ton to deal with in the off season. I was just thinking about this earlier and I'm curious about what you would do if you were in this situation.

QUOTE (knightni @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 05:11 PM) Russell will be back up, Wise will be outrighted and brought back Sept 1 probably. Thanks for the news, Knight.
-
Does anybody know of any roster changes now that Griffey's here? It doesn't really make sense to carry 6 outfielders, so who goes down, BA or Wise?
-
QUOTE (JFields27 @ Jul 31, 2008 -> 02:41 PM) nope Really? They confirmed the trade at 10-something this morning. That would leave him 8 hours and some-odd minutes before game time...
-
Just wondering if we would get compensation for Griffey Jr. after this season if he signs elsewhere. Does anybody know? I know they decided that they will buyout his contract option but would they still get compensation? If we got compensation picks for Griffey Jr., O Cab (if he's not traded), and Crede (and possibly Uribe), that would be absolutely outstanding. Thanks

QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 12, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) According to this, Danks will pitch the finale against KC on the 20th and on 7 days of rest...and I'll be there. Sweetness. Me too.

Set to be as follows: 1) Buehrle 2) Floyd 3) Danks 4) Vazquez 5) Contreras http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws Thoughts?

http://twitter.com/cst_sox Well, I just got a text on my phone from Cowley's Twitter account saying the following: Does anyone think that Jose will struggle a ton now with Pablo gone?

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 8, 2008 -> 02:26 AM) I honestly wish CC woulda stayed in Clev. Now instead of facing him a few times a year (or only a couple more times anyway) we potentially have to face a stud every-day player. They are getting 6 players out of this deal, and 1 is bound to be a sox killer. Just like the Santana deal, I'd much rather face an Ace pitcher a few times a year than getting destroyed by the Carlos Gomez's 15 times a year They're actually getting 4 players...Matt LaPorta, Rob Bryson, Zach Jackson, and a player to be named later.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 01:27 PM) 1. MB 2. Floyd 3. Danks 4. Javy 5. Count I like this one the most. Spreading out the lefties is a good strategy, IMO.

Derrick Rose to throw the first pitch out today.

QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 11:38 PM) I hate All Star voting. Hamilton and probably Mauer are the only two starters that deserve to be there. To me Mauer is even stretching it. You could argue Pedroia as well, but Youkalis, Jeter, Ortiz? Come on now. I wish they did like they do HOF voting. I wouldn't mind it if the coaches voted starters in either.

Mark Buehrle recorded his 1000th career strikeout against Mark Sweeney of the Dodgers tonight. Congrats to you, Mark! :headbang

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jun 23, 2008 -> 11:13 PM) Its a pretty good rule and something I'd like to see the NBA institute. I think you shoudl be able to go out of highschool or at least commit to a minimum of 2 years (in basketball's case) of college playing time (3 years would be even better, but given the quicker impact you can make in basketball it may not be realistic). On ESPN today they were talking about some high school kid trying to get around the "One and done" college rule by possibly playing one year of pro ball in Europe.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Jun 24, 2008 -> 01:40 AM) You don't have a TB player. And I didn't even look for other teams you missed. And Gavin Floyd is actually not doing that good. Look at his BB/K and BB/IP. His ERA really should be mid to upper 3's. I do agree with Danks though. Fixed. Stuck B.J. Upton in there instead of Damon. Gonna keep Floyd in there though.
