  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) 3 titles even though he's a FA after next year? 2008, 2009, 2010 = three.
  2. QUOTE (BearSox @ Jul 31, 2009 -> 12:12 PM) To be instant WS favorites for this year and 2010 would be worth it. How many WS favorites actually win the WS?
  3. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 30, 2009 -> 06:37 PM) I'm sure there are more GM's who passed on Beckham who would trade their pick straight up for him right now. In fact, maybe all of them. I'd think all of them except the Orioles (Matusz) and Giants (Posey).
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Jul 29, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) The Phillies got robbed blind on this one. Ultimately, I’d say it adds about to 2-4 wins this year in a division they were almost assured to win without making a move. They got robbed blind without giving up their top three prospects (Drabek, Taylor, Brown) or J.A. Happ?
  5. 2009 Garret Jones = 2006 Chris Shelton? I personally don't think we'll be hearing about this guy much when he cools off.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2009 -> 06:37 AM) It would take Dotel, Poreda and another prospect for Lambo. They would probably ask for Flowers/Viciedo to start with, and MIGHT settle for Hudson as the third player. In case you haven't noticed, it's taking a lot to get rent-a-players. Just look at what the Indians got last year for Sabathia and what the A's just got for Holliday. Matt LaPorta, Zach Jackson, Rob Bryson, and Michael Brantley for Sabathia. Brett Wallace, Clayton Mortensen, Shane Peterson for Holliday. Am I saying Dotel's on the same level as Sabathia or Holliday? No. Am I saying we should expect one of those types of mega-packages for Dotel? No. Lambo is a very good prospect, not an elite one. And that's just one prospect. Dotel is a type A FA and would net two draft picks if we or a team he was traded to offered him arbitration. All that said, he certainly has good value on the trade market. Dotel should be able to net Lambo or a Lambo type of player straight up, especially if a team is desperate for relief help.
  7. Is Wallace's defense still that bad? Can anyone who has seen him play tell us anything about how it is currently? The way he made it sound at the Fan Fest during the All-Star weekend was that he's working very hard at his D. He said something along the lines of 'I'm going out and working on my defense an hour early every day'
  8. Complete steal by Billy Beane if you ask me. A's receive: 3B - Brett Wallace (Cards top prospect) RHP - Clayton Mortensen (2007 first round draft pick) OF - Shane Peterson (2008 2nd round draft pick) Cardinals receive: OF - Matt Holliday The A's to pay $1.5MM of the remainder of Holliday's salary; Cards left to pay about $4.5MM. Holliday is a free agent after the 2009 season.
  9. QUOTE (WilliamTell @ Jul 10, 2009 -> 10:05 PM) I've always been on the luck bandwagon for the Twins, but they have been doing this basically the whole decade. At same time you'd think they're luck would run out if it is luck. Either way we'll find out shortly when they open their new outside, grass infield, less noise filled stadium. I wouldn't contribute luck to their success at the HHH against us. Isn't it really that WE don't play well there instead of them dominating us there?
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2009 -> 06:35 PM) Why does Poreda have a "ton more upside" than Clayton? Because he's a first round draft pick (late)? Because he hasn't shown a consistent or electric fastball like he was hyped to have...one that has been 1-3 MPH under Clayton's? Because he throws a "decent" slider and "good" change like Clayton? Poreda seems, from watching him a bit, that he changes his motion even more than Richard when throwing offspeed stuff...he will get hit hard, just like Clayton got hit hard throwing just one pitch consistently for strikes and falling behind in counts. Let's disregard the fact that Poreda has actually been ranked as a top 20-25 pitching prospect in all of baseball. Let's compare their career stats in the minors. ERA: Poreda - 2.62 Richard - 3.35 WHIP: Poreda - 1.14 Richard - 1.27 H9: Poreda - 7.4 Richard - 8.9 BB9: Poreda - 2.8 Richard - 2.5 K9: Poreda - 7.8 Richard - 5.8 Poreda's stats Richard's stats
  11. Why not give AP a chance? Clayton has been complete trash. There's a chance Poreda gets crushed. So what? Clayton Richard is doing the exact same thing right now. Poreda has a ton more upside so how would it hurt us by reversiving their roles? Poreda can't possibly be worse than Clayton at this point.
  12. It's getting really old watching Clayton Richard throw every fifth day. Poreda has only allowed one run in 7.2 innings. He's got a ton of upside and is obviously a better option than Richard at this point. I'd rather see Poreda go through growing pains, if there are any, than Richard. Put Poreda in the rotation already!
  13. Anybody have any info on this guy? He signed out of a high school in CA. Did he slip due to signability concerns? I saw he was up for All-State honors in CA (don't know if he won though). Thanks
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jun 21, 2009 -> 12:39 PM) London.
  15. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 22, 2009 -> 05:50 PM) I think a top 20-25 prospects list that is updated maybe once a week would be pretty neat. Maybe with a stock up, stock down type thing and maybe a short explanation about it. A guy like Hudson would be much higher on a list now than say a pre-season list. I actually just saw the thread and was going to post the same but you beat me to it. Updated prospects lists would be really cool, imo.
  16. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jun 20, 2009 -> 11:57 AM) Gartrell's too old and doesn't play a premium defensive position to be considered a solution to any of the Sox's problems. At best he might be a corner OF'er who can mash lefties. Basically a 200 AB guy. He's too old? Come on now, he's 25.
  17. Eh, I don't think it would be worth it. If he came to the AL, he would probably just be a DH since he's as bad as you can be defensively. It's not like we need another DH type with Viciedo, Flowers, and Allen.
  18. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jun 18, 2009 -> 03:55 PM) Ozzie f***ed this game up today. I don't know why he's in love with Linebrink now for some reason. Has he been blind for the past month? Linebrink has been terrible. Those two runs in the 8th did us in. If we didn't score those, Thornton comes in and we probably win this game. Getz was also horrible at second today. Did you watch the game? He made an amazing play to save a run in I forget which inning (4th maybe?). The first error he made should have have been on Alexei. He just let the ball flip on the transition go right past him. The 8th inning error was f***ing terrible though.
  19. Who called it that Gordon would have a breakout series?
  20. We should nickname Beckham 'The Georgia Peach'.
  21. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 17, 2009 -> 11:07 AM) Teams that trade their best players usually don't win much. Teams whose best player is on the shelf for a huge chunk of the season usually won't win much either.
  22. I think if anyone in the league could do it, it's him. That said, I don't think he can maintain it over an entire season.
  23. Am I the only one who thinks we should have traded Q last offseason when we could have pulled in a s***load for him? Let's face it, the guys an absolute monster when he's healthy, but he's has never been able to stay healthy.
