I just got to thinking, what type of ball player would I be if I were one. I'm just wondering what kind of comparisons people will throw out there. Mine are as follows: Pitching: Probably a closer. Bobby Jenks type? I'm a little on the hefty side at 6'0 and 210. Nowhere near Bobby, however, lol. Position player: 1B/DH/Corner OF power-hitting type. I'll also throw catcher out there as I used to catch (catcher would be really pushing it for me now). I can play above average defense and am a naturally born right-handed hitter but I now hit left-handed sometimes in pickup games and fooling around. Lance Berkman type as a switch-hitter/Justin Morneau type strictly as a right-handed type (yeah, I know he's a lefty). Have fun with this.

So many names to choose from. BA, Getz, Richard, Marquez, or Fields could all do well in my opinion. But be the biggest surprise? I like Marquez or Richard for that. I hope one of them (if not both) gets a chance to start in the Bigs for a while this year.

Rosenthal: Melky Cabrera is on the block; Sox would be good fit

From MLBTR. Sorry, I didn't read the actual article. -
I share a birthday with Jennifer Garner and Posh Spice, sadly.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 04:10 PM) Words would not describe my anger if we got Juan Pierre and called that a solution. I wouldn't mind him as much as some would. I don't care about his s***y OBP. When he gets on, he is a major threat and one of the fastest players in the game. As long as LA eats a lot of the money owed to him, I'm fine with him as our leadoff hitter.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 22, 2009 -> 02:32 PM) Ouch. Any word on option years? Maybe a 5th year at 10ish million? Cowley just said option for 2013 which could make the deal worth $25M.
-
Danks was offered the same deal and turned it down...

Four year, $15.5M for Floyd.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Mar 21, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) Is he like the second coming of Joba minus 20 pounds? Sure sounds like it. I've read Mark Prior. -
Cowley said he heard it could be Juan Pierre...from an unreliable source, however.

Burger Shots are absolutley delicious. I've gotten them about twice a week since they came out. That being said, they don't take Sliders.

QUOTE (Soxpranos @ Mar 15, 2009 -> 10:55 AM) Why settle for a .230 hitter I just do not get it. Enough of the excuses for BA that he wasn't given a chance. There is a reason they either stopped playing him or are trying to let someone else play CF, He simply is not a Major League Center fielder. If he does win the CF job this year I truly hope he proves me wrong. Because his defense is spectacular. If the Sox are going to have any chance to win in '09, the defense and pitching have to great.

KW: Looking for leadoff hitters in 2009 draft
DaTank replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 13, 2009 -> 04:40 AM) FUTURE WHITE SOX LEADOFF HITTERS Kentrail Davis, OF, Univ. of Tennessee AJ Pollock, 2B/OF, Notre Dame Brett Jackson, OF, Univ. of California (Berkeley) Jared Mitchel, OF, LSU High Schoolers Brian Goodwin, OF, HS, North Carolina Jake Marisnick, OF, HS, California Levon Washington, OF/2B, HS, Florida Randal Grichuk, OF, HS, Texas Most likely picks around #24 in first round Kendal Volz (RHP), Mike Minor (LHP), Tanner Scheppers (RHP) most likely to be one of these three guys or Goodwin/Pollock, unless Davis or Donovan Tate (son of former UGA football star RB Lars Tate) fall way back in the draft or are seen as unsignable Austin Maddox ©, Josh Phegley ©, Matt Stassi © This all depends on Tyler Flowers' defensive development. Ben Tottle (RHRP), Jason Stoffle (RHRP) After Royce Ring disaster, not likely to go in this direction again of drafting a college reliever. The only other time we did that was with Josh Fogg, but that was with the idea of converting him to a starter out of Univ. of Florida. You'd have to take Tate at #23, if he's still there, IMO. He's considered a a top 5-10 talent at the moment and he could slip to with signability concerns. Unless he wanted a Major League deal, you have to take a talent like him that far into the first round. I wouldn't mind taking a high school catcher at #23, but with a risk like that I'd prefer to take one in the 2nd-3rd round if they're still available (which I doubt one of Maddox, Stassi, or Phegley will be). Like I've said before I wouldn't mind drafting like the Royals did last year; pick up high upside high school talent throughout the first few (1-5) rounds. It would be great to get a really high upside system. Signing a guy like Melville was last year (dropped due to signability concerns) would be awesome, too. How I'd draft during those rounds: 2 lead off types (at least 1 OF), 2 starting pitchers, 1 catcher (assuming a decent high schooler would be available). -
Matt Wieters, he's going to be a f***ing monster.

QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Mar 10, 2009 -> 01:32 PM) Do the Sox keep the money from the parking fees? I would guess so. They own the lots, don't they? -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 12:31 PM) And we're holding 4 picks in the first 2 rounds this year. And we've got a couple guys who have their contracts up at the end of this year who we might legitimately be able to offer arbitration to if they have solid years (Colon) to add more next year. I'm starting to think that us having four picks in the first two rounds is meaning less and less for us. I forget where, but I read that this upcoming draft class is one of the worst talent and depth-wise (most depth with college arms) in a while and there's not much talent besides a few college guys, a select group of high school arms, and a high school star OF named Donovan Tate, who has five tool potential. I think we'd be lucky to get one decent impact guy in the earlier rounds out of this draft. Hopefully that changes as the college and high school seasons progress.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2009 -> 09:47 AM) I know what the reaction is going to be, "why start his clock" "really that early", "he will have to adjust", "scouts dont know him yet." But here is my opening day lineup. And yes I know I am putting a guy with 14 pro games in that spot. I feel our pitching can be the strength of this team and because of that I like the defensive talent as well as the athleticism. 1. Becks 2B 2. Alexei SS 3. Thome DH 4. Q LF 5. Kong 1B 6. Dye RF 7. AJP C 8. Fields 3B 9. BA CF I honestly believe Becks is a special player and could give us almost Sizemore-like production in the leadoff spot. Lilli backs up SS and 2B Betemit backs up 3B and 1B Kroeger backs up RF and LF Sizmore is great, but I sure hope Beckham strikes out less than him and hits for a little bit of a better average than him. (Sizemore has a .279 career BA.) How is Gordon's speed? Not as fast as Sizemore, right?

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 06:15 PM) Players are arbitration eligible after three years of service time. If they hold off on bringing up a player until later in the season, they essentially will have him for four years before he becomes arb eligible. Does it just have to be after the first game of the season or is there a certain time period?
-
Can somebody please explain the whole arbitration clock thing?

QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Mar 8, 2009 -> 05:02 PM) Beckham won't break out of spring training with the major league team. Getz or Nix will be our everyday 2b, at least to start the season. If Beckham tears it up down in the minors and Getz or Nix don't make much of an impact, we could very well see Beckham this year. If anything, you will see him for sure in 2010. My 2010 White Sox look like this (in no particular batting order): C- AJ 1B- Konerko 2B- Beckham SS- Ramirez 3B- Fields LF- Viciedo CF- ??? Alot will depend on how Anderson or Owens does this year. RF- Quentin DH- ??? Re-sign Thome for cheap? Other free agent options include Vlad Guerrero & Bobby Abreu I personally see Konerko and Brandon Allen manning 1B/DH next year.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 7, 2009 -> 04:38 PM) He wouldn't cost us a draft pick. So nothing is lost for signing a type B FA? The Yanks would just gain a supplemental pick then?
