  1. Wait they signed most of their draft picks, last time I checked. The 1st pick is currently a LOOGY on the MLB club. How are they being too cheap?

Absolutely brutal. 4th round picks are pretty high picks and we let ours get away. The Sox continued cheapness in the draft and player development is just downright deplorable. We have a 100M payroll and put nothing into our farm system. I'd rather cheap out a bit on the big league team and put an extra 4M into our farm system because that 4M can pay off exponentially.

    Luke Scott anyone?

Let's just go back to AZ and say" listen we threw you a huge bone with Hudson, What's it gonna take to get LaRoche""and don't you dare say Viciedo/Beckham/Flowers/Morel". A couple of mid level arms: Torres+Cassell.

Ken_Rosenthal Berkman to #Yankees could put #Nationals in bind with Dunn. Nats lose big potential suitor. #WhiteSox can hold out for (MORE) #Rays #MLB

deal of their liking. #Rays can't be sure Dunn will succeed as DH after failed expriment w Burrell. #Nationals might be stuck. #Yankees #MLB

    I like that quote.

Seriously, Jenks needs to get in better shape if that's actually what is causing his back problems AND loss of velocity. If there's another reason (besides weight) causing the back and hip problems (congenital defect, drunkard etc.) I would be happy to hear about it.

Olivo like you said is a HORRIBLE defensive catcher. He can't catch the freaking ball.

It's home run or NOTHING at the plate.

    No way please.

Wasn't one of the reasons he was traded was because the pitching staff hating pitching to him?

More teams got involved with his agent, there was even a "tryout" scheduled for teams to watch him workout. He was doing his job, but it slowed down KW's progress and may have upped the price a bit.

I don't get it, Cowley gets bashed around here for "not doing his job", but he does "his job" and gets bashed for doing that. You can't have it both ways.

I was wondering if someone was going to give him his due credit.

WHITE SOX AGREE TO TERMS ONE ONE-YEAR CONTRACT

    WITH PITCHER J.J. PUTZ

CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox and right-handed pitcher J.J. Putz (Puts) have agreed to terms on a one-year, $3-million contract.

Putz, 32, is 23-19 with a 3.24 ERA (127 ER/352.1 IP), 103 saves and 356 strikeouts in 337 relief appearances over seven major-league seasons with Seattle (2003-2008) and the New York Mets (2009).

The 6-foot-5, 250-pounder spent the 2009 season with the Mets, going 1-4 with a 5.22 ERA (17 ER/29.1 IP), 10 holds and two saves in 29 relief appearances. He underwent arthroscopic surgery to remove a bone spur in his right elbow on June 9 and missed the remainder of the season.

    From 2006-07, Putz ranked among the major-league relief leaders in strikeouts (2nd, 186), ERA (3rd, 1.86), strikeouts per 9.0 IP (3rd, 11.16), saves (3rd, 76), opponents average (4th, .182), wins (T4th, 10) and IP (6th, 150.0). His best season came in 2007 when he went 6-1 with a 1.38 ERA (11 ER/71.2 IP) and a career-high 40 saves in 42 chances.

Putz, a member of the 2007 American League All-Star Team, originally was drafted by Seattle in the sixth round of the 1999 draft. He was traded to the Mets as part of a three-team deal on December 11, 2008.

  9. From MLB Rumors:

•GM Kenny Williams is not shopping closer Bobby Jenks and has not had any offseason trade talks about him. However, Williams will listen at the Winter Meetings.

•Williams said he never heard of last month's rumor about three-way trade talks for Adrian Gonzalez involving the White Sox, Padres, and Angels. The rumor came from a source with no track record, and was quickly shot down, so it was never published on MLBTR. That doesn't mean we should rule out the possiblity of the White Sox being interest in Gonzalez, though.

I predict this is the group of FAs that could still be on the sidelines as we enter February.

Soriano and Gonzalez will probably be signed before then as there is demand for both.
