QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:38 AM) Huh? Who are you talking about? Quentin put up 21 HR's in 99 games but didn't put an .842 OPS in any split. Neither Jones nor Kotsay put up those numbers in any of their splits either. I'm talking about Konerko.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:51 AM) Yes, silly me for not having our starting Catcher, 1B, and RF as our DH. Also, it's a damn shame that our 3rd best defender (Nix, behind Vizquel and Rios), a guy who isn't going to make the team if we get another player on the roster is not included in my concept of a DH. Not silly. Just uninformed. The Sox have said for months those guys are in that rotation.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:44 AM) Designated Hitter. It’s in the damn name. It’s not a position reserved for people who can’t hit. It’s not shallow by definition. The DH position is "the most effective hitter". On the 2010 Sox it's designed to exploit matchups. That could mean move a runner over, sac fly, take a walk or lay down a bunt. Why is this so hard for people to grasp?!

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:40 AM) You mean the guy who led the league in OPS a year ago? You must have been one of the people who assumed Nick Swisher was an awful player given his one year on the Sox. People are allowed to have off-years, you know. Bradley is increasingly erratic as a player and a human being, but he is a far better option at DH then Jones, Vizquel, and Kotsay. No, I mean the guy that led the league in getting thrown off the team. I love how your Sox DH rotation never includes Konerko, Quentin, Nix or AJ. It really builds your case.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:32 AM) You mean the one with Milton Bradley in the running for it? Yeah, i'll take it. Oh, and they have the best defense in all of baseball. They can afford to gamble anyway. Griffey is the DH and he's a worse hitter than Andruw Jones. The fact that you are lauding Milton Bradley is beyond hilarious.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) It's "Designated Hitter" the entire position was made for a guy whose really good on the offensive end and really bad on the defensive one. Right now, we have three former gold glove defenders with questionable offensive abilty in the spot. That is a pretty shallow definition of DH. BTW, the Sox have a guy who put up 21 Hrs in less than 100 games last season and a guy who put up an .842 OPS, in the spot as well.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 11:23 AM) We have a glarding hole in our offense that Stevie Wonder could see. This is unacceptable to have a "maybe" in the most important offensive position on the team. Take a look at the Mariners DH for 2010.

QUOTE (R.J. @ Feb 12, 2010 -> 10:39 AM) I feel like this is just about over. It never really started, apparently.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 07:00 PM) Yeah, and if you're comprehension skills were any better, you would have taken note of the word "usually", besides, if it was a bidding war for Konerko, the Sox wouldn't have won. Yeah, and if your comprehension skills were better, you would have taken note of the correct way to use "you're" and "your", genius.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:54 PM) If this is a bidding war, the Sox usually come in second or third. Yeah. If they could have only kept Konerko a few seasons back...

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) it's weird that Cowley said the 7m would take the Sox out of the equation, but a month or two ago didn't JR say in an interview there's more money left if they feel there's a player who could help them win? Yeah and Boyer just reiterated there is money to spend: "You know the model. Money in, down the hall to [general manager Kenny Williams], minus expenses, puts the players out on the field. So far, we are in pretty good shape. Season ticket-wise, our renewals were very strong. A lot has to do with the positiveness around the team. How we budgeted, we feel very confident, as we sit here right now, we feel confident we will be able to support a payroll that's north of $100 million. MLB.com: "There's also the ability built in for Williams to additions, even of the higher-end variety?" Boyer: "There certainly is."

QUOTE (Big Daddy Kool @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 06:10 PM) "It's more about doing due diligence than anything else,'' http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2010/02...fter_damon.html That is such BS. It's a week away from Spring Training. The time to measure the market was a month ago or longer. The 'ol White Sox Dismiss PR Machine is gassed and ready to roll!

QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:55 PM) Yeah I think the rumor of their 2 year offer must be smaller annual salary than the 1 year offer. There is no way they shed all they payroll in Polanco, Granderson, and Jackson just so they can sign a 35 year old OF/DH for 2 years 14 mil. More likely they offer something like 1 year 4.5 mil or 2 Years 8 mil. The sox would be wise to offer like 1 year 5 mil and basically tell him that his power numbers would look awfully sexy next year playing at USCF vs. Comerica as he heads back into free agency. Heyman says "the Tigers' offer may actually be a bit north of $14 million over 2 years, but damon still may prefer 1 yr. chisox, braves also trying"
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:42 PM) Where did Detroit find this money? Illitch ponied up.
-
QUOTE (joeynach @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:43 PM) Did anyone here honsestly think that KW would let an all star caliber player whose demands fell from 3 yrs 36 Mil to 1 year 5 mil go to the rival Tigers without trying to make a play here. He wouldnt be doing his job if he didnt try and get involved, not to mention the sox could actually use Damon. I really hope they can snatch him away from the tigers, it could mean the division for us. Damon is not gonna win anybody this division. He will help, but that is way overstating his value.
-
QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:40 PM) Im guessing he will sign with Detroit for 2 years at $14 million. You can almost hear Kenny cursing Boras from the Cell. This was never gonna happen. I'm shocked that he even called Boras. He probably had Hahn handle this.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:39 PM) The Sox best bet to upgrade their offense might be a Spring Training injury to someone like Kotsay or Jones. Maybe Ozzie will try out Jones at 1st base like he did with Toby? Well at least Kenny is still shopping...
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:34 PM) Well, the idea of them WINNING maybe. But its entirely possible they bid. I don't doubt they bid, but no way the have been in a "bidding war". Reason #1- $$$ Reason #2- Boras Reason #3- Ozzie
-
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:30 PM) Come on Sox...this would excite me. Not gonna happen, bud. Sorry. The reports of the Sox bidding has been greatly overstated.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 04:17 PM) Ugh...can't the Guillen's just be quiet and let KW do what he wants. Exactly (x10) ^
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Like I've said before, its a FACT they have been chatting about Damon a good amount of time in the offseason. His demands have only recently come down. And today they just went back up again...
-
QUOTE (everafan @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 03:30 PM) If the Tiger's offer really is $14M/ 2 yrs the Sox will not touch that. Yeah, no way this happens and at anywhere near those terms -it shouldn't. It does confirm to all that KW is never done and he knows the current lineup may not be enough.
-
QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Feb 11, 2010 -> 03:28 PM) Probably driving up the price of Damon, Inevitably, he will probably be a Tiger. No doubt driving up his price. Kenny just gave Boras a TON of leverage knowing the Tigers are division rivals. Kenny already hung up by now.
-
3:05pm: Jon Paul Morosi of FOX Sports and Jim Bowden tweet that the White Sox and Tigers are bidding on Damon.

http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2010/02/john...s-thursday.html I can't believe that JR/Kenny are chasing him with those terms on the table,..
