  1. QUOTE (fathom @ Feb 14, 2014 -> 05:39 PM) Hoffman with a pretty average start to the season 6.2, 3ER, 2BB, 6K Hopefully he puts up huge numbers this year Hoffman featured plus stuff and was impressive. Trust me.
  2. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=22709 Tim Anderson, SS, White Sox It’s early in his developmental journey and the tools are still raw, but Anderson’s athleticism and physical gifts could make him a high-impact prospect in the minors, the kind that sits atop a team list and warrants placement in the upper tiers of the overall class. Sources are mixed on his long-term home on the diamond, with the speed and instincts to patrol center if the hands don’t end up playing at short. But the bat could be a lot more explosive than some might realize, with easy plus raw power that might be slow to find its way into game action but should get there eventually.
  3. Heard Hoffman really impressed in his interview. Great presence. Big org love right now for this kid. All love his approach and work ethic. All don't love his long-toss regimen but he's committed to it. A lot can change but all things being equal, if he's there at #3 I'd be shocked if they passed.
  4. FWIW, ...told "anyone that calls the Sox longshots in this Tanaka thing are just wrong".
  5. QUOTE (Lemon_44 @ Dec 11, 2013 -> 09:25 PM) Can Lawrie play 2nd base? How about a 3-way trade involving SF, Sox, and Toronto. Sox send Viciedo to SF, Beckham to Toronto and receive Sandoval and Lawrie. There would be more parts involved but that would be the gist of it for the Sox. However, I would rather hold onto Viciedo and send De Aza to SF. Lawrie came up as a highly touted 2B with MIL.
  6. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 07:41 PM) Rock, we aren't sure that Eaton is a legit starting cf yet. For me it's high upside for high upside with Hector having proven a little bit more at the big league level and Eaton having a potential higher value to our team. Like I said, I think it's pretty fair on paper, just have to wait and see how Eaton and Hector end up turning out. Eaton was on a ROY pace before injury last season. If a guy like Gardner is a quality every day CF, Eaton very likely can get it done.
  7. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 06:40 PM) keithlaw ‏@keithlaw 1h .@maedwilson I don't believe Avi Garcia is ready/best off starting in majors That's ridiculous. He's full time time MLB ready.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:28 PM) That is what I like to hear. But do we trade Quinatana then? Do you know what names have been exchanged? Highly doubtful but possible for a game-changing deal.
  9. QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:36 PM) How significant we talking? Likely not a casual fan loving blockbuster but consistent with the plan: cost controlled impact with high upside that's an improvement over a Gillaspinger 3B.
  10. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:40 PM) He was though, and the Sox turned the saved money into what was basically a blockbuster FA deal for the Sox. Not only that but they have a cost-controlled core for almost 5 more years. Thats incredible. +1
  11. QUOTE (Jake @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:31 PM) Of course, Edwards is the only player in that deal who still looks like he's worth a s*** and he's in A-ball. Aside from delusional Cub fans I still don't see why people think the Garza deal was such a haul.
  12. They'd prefer to keep DV over ADA as he's younger and an org guy with potentially more upside. Sounds like ADA has a broader market since he's more productive for contenders. I wouldn't expect a huge return but I do think he'll be dealt.
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:17 PM) The idea of Ackley at 3rd base is not good, IMO. If you're getting Ackley, you might as well trade Beckham as Gillaspie provides better offense than Ackley. Agreed. I'm not a fan of it either. Ackley is Seattle's Beckham. Just thought it was an interesting nugget I heard. Sounds like kind of of a mixed camp at 3B but it's really hot focus for the F.O. They are really active in talks so far down at the meetings. Seems like more than the past few years. I wouldn't be suprised if they make a few more deals this week. 3B is the focus.
  14. Told Sox still hoping to leave meetings with a significant upgrade at 3B. It's getting real. Lots of names exchanged.
  15. Sox have loved Eaton for a long while. IMO, he's gonna be a great fit.
  16. QUOTE (chisoxfan310 @ Dec 10, 2013 -> 05:07 PM) Now that either De Aza or Viciedo are going to be possibly dealt, do you guys think we can get a respectable deal for Viciedo from Seattle who could use an outfield power bat? Timely post. If you like Ackley (shifting to 3B for the Sox) that's recently been proposed by Jack Z. I believe Rick countered with Franklin. Stay tuned.
  17. System got some new respect. BP really likes Danish and Anderson ('13 draft was praised). I know Parks likes Leury quite a bit as well.
  18. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 11:47 PM) Do we know yet that Hahn refuses to work with Scott Boras? Myth.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 03:24 PM) The full interview's going to be played tomorrow morning (I think at 9) on the hour-long show. Basically, the gist of it is that he doesn't like losing, doesn't want to go through another miserable season like 2013 and that Rick and KW have a fixed budget number for the coming year, but there's still room for another acquisition as long as it fits into both short and longer-term organizational plans. No doubt. It's a two way street for signing and trading players but trust me the Sox F.O. is in aggressive mode these days.
  20. FYI, if you're concerned about the catching situation so is Rick. Was told Jaso is high on the wish list due to his high OBP contact bat from the left side. Had good talks recently with Beane but not sure it can move past prelim talks as his medicals are TBD due to concussion.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 02:59 PM) I think part of the reason that Manto was let go was in the hope that a new perspective would help quite a few guys who had rough years last year. Absolutely. Viciedo is an enigma that baffles and frustrates everybody.
  22. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 01:41 PM) I would not. I don't think they will be traded, but I would not be shocked in the least if they were. I think the organizatoin is beginning to sour on Viciedo a bit, though I think they give him one more season. Ramirez is an expensive, older SS and the Sox have a couple different guys who can play SS at the MLB level right now. I honestly would really like to see Leury get a shot at starting. Agreed. Viciedo and Beckham have to benefit from the Steverson hire and they think they will. Time will tell.
  23. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 06:33 PM) Interesting. Upside: Young, cost-controlled power hitter at premium position Downside: Trade cost / Plate disciple / Defensive liability
  24. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 10, 2013 -> 04:45 PM) Are you willing to wait until after the 2015 season to have the money to fix the catcher's spot if Phegley and Flowers continue to put up .650 OPS numbers? Wilin Rosario is a popular name these days...
  25. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 11:24 AM) I'm sure there are a lot of things being discussed. The idea that the Sox are only discussing this one deal amongst their entire front office is silly. What's more likely is that the Sox are looking at this type of deal if they are to deal Quintana. Regardless of any of that, we won't hear about it until November anyways. +1
