QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2013 -> 04:17 PM) Any early ideas at a ceiling of either total dollars, total years, annual dollars, or some combination of those factors? It's all just an unknown until he establishes residency and OFAC clears him.

From what I've been told, it sounds like they plan to pursue Abreu very aggressively. You never know what closes it, but it won't be for lack of trying.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Aug 14, 2013 -> 09:34 PM) Keith Law said today that Abreu is worth no where near what Cepedes and Puig were because he is not an athlete like they are. They guy's been rated as 70 hit / 70 power. Who cares how fast he runs or if he can jump over a car?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 01:50 PM) The White Sox aren't even in the discussion? huh? Their chances are about the size of a bread basket.

QUOTE (beck72 @ Aug 12, 2013 -> 06:06 AM) A Cuban 1b/ DH has defected and may be an unrestricted free agent this year. Jose Dariel Abreu supposedly would be in line for the highest contract given to a Cuban Free agent. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2013/08/jose...-from-cuba.html The Sox would have to be one of the main teams going after him. With the need, the money, the fellow countrymen, the city. His signing would fill a key hole. Would the Sox "overpay" for him? The sox have put themselves in the position to get him very nicely. For who else is on the free agent market, I'd say the risk would be well worth it. Esp. as the sox have 1b and DH open for him, with Dunn leaving after 2014. http://bit.ly/11Y7Pbw

Get a look tonight on MLB Network. Kid's stock is gonna blow up between now and the draft. Should be top 5 pick.

Baseball Prospectus: IF/OF Leury Garcia: Another super-toolsy player in the system, little Leury Garcia shows plus-plus attributes in the field and with his legs, prompting some to compare him to an even smaller Rafael Furcal. In a system full of toolsy shortstop prospects, Garcia might have the loudest tools of the bunch. With a plus-plus arm, smooth actions, and 8 run, the diminutive yet catalytic player has positioned himself as a future super-utility option at the highest level. At the plate, he can make contact and get his legs involved, and on defense, he can play on the left side of the infield and has even logged time in the outfield.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Aug 7, 2013 -> 01:49 PM) http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2013/08/07/ber...e-sox-optimism/ Pretty decent column. Bernstein has been talking about the Sox primarily for the 1st half hour. He mentioned how he has been talking to some people and they brought up how important it is to be as flexible as they are financially. He said that the Sox could be a team that takes on bad contracts in the final years as long as other teams are trading prospects with those contracts. It's interesting and something that I have thought of. Many of us had said the same things. They will have a ton of money in the coming years, high draft picks, and a ton of young cost-controlled pitching. It's funny how people are starting to see what Hahn is doing. He's so much different from KW and I think people are suprised by this. Rick's idea was for the team to have a ton more flexibility going forward much earlier than, say, the Cubs or other rebuilds you find in baseball.

QUOTE (Knackattack @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:40 PM) Figures since we haven't heard from you in a few days . Do you know if BoSox bit or Hahn came down? That's something I'll hear about later I'm sure. All I've heard is Rick has been very firm on returns. -

QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 09:28 PM) Olney just found bucket's post from a week ago Haha thanks Jake. Deal been in place for a while now, FYI. -
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 26, 2013 -> 10:40 AM) No, absolutely not. My post that I quoted, which I brought from another thread, fits this thread and your post perfectly. Bucket isn't going to have anything new that's going to blow your mind that he hasn't already said. Here, I can say this: "There is a deal that's close, but I can't go into specifics." And it's the same thing and it's true, and I haven't consulted anyone within any MLB organization. As I mentioned in the other post, this isn't a slight against bucket, and we are appreciative of any information provided by posters, but rather that this is a season of misinformation and we can hear about deals that are close that will never finish and never be reported by the media, and we won't hear anything about deals that will come together and be finalized in about 2 hours. Just relax. The landscape keeps changing. Three things that have happened that have radically shifted Sox deals: 1) Hudson injury 2) Crain injury 3) Berkman injury The Sox FO is different now than in the past. Rick is very, very patient.

QUOTE (mike65 @ Jul 23, 2013 -> 10:10 PM) Does the rumor that I posted this afternoon (heard on a Chicago radio station) have any merit? It is back two or three pages. Thanks. Hell, I meant this for Bucket! That deal is not happening. -

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 09:01 PM) Any idea who the Sox would be interested in? If they want to give up Olt, Sardinas, Edwards and another person...bring it on It's early in this dance with Texas. I will say Peavy should command more than they would send for Garza. -

QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 21, 2013 -> 08:49 PM) Red Sox and Cards match up best as far as prospects go. I don't think Baltimore has the pieces unless they are willing to give up Gausman and/or Bundy (who just had TJ as well). The Yanks farm system ain't so hot either other than Gary Sanchez. Don't overlook Texas as a landing spot for JFP...not sayin', just sayin'. -
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 05:39 PM) I like to hear that that Hahn is in full trading mode. Do you know by chance what teams are interested in our players and what names have been discussed. Sorry for bombarding you with questions. But thank you Things are very fluid right now. Anything I could give you that's real specific could change tomorrow. Stay tuned.
