  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 04:25 PM) First let me say that I find that Bill James projection to be very aggressive. I seriously doubt that Hahn expects a .790 OPS out of him next year either, but I really do think that Hahn wants Flowers as his starting catcher. This is an easy spot for Hahn to upgrade the lineup's OBP while saving money for other needs. Your points about Flowers' defense are fair enough. We'll have to see how he handles a full season workload. I think it would be foolish to expect to him to play as many games as AJ typically has, so getting a catcher that can hit right-handed pitching well seems critical to me if Flowers end up as our starter. +1. Great post.
  2. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 1, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) If the White Sox are confident Flowers would put up a .791 OPS they would not even consider bringing AJ back. Maybe they are. It has been very quiet on the AJ front. I do think Flowers defensive reputation here will take a little hit if he plays everyday. When he is a little more banged up, and a little more drained from playing, blocking balls in the dirt is going to be a bit more difficult. In spite of what they've said publicly, and unless things have drastically changed in the past week, I've heard the Sox are not planning on AJ returning,...even if he wants to. That time has passed. They will spend their limited coin elsewhere. Like the bullpen.
  3. Heard that a guy the Sox are considering as a Floyd replacement is a certain former 1st rounder that may be non-tendered by a division rival tomorrow...
  4. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 24, 2012 -> 08:22 AM) I said this somewhere before, but the Rockettes have a couple of guys who can play third AND hit, and they are desperate for pitching. Nelson and LeMehieu (sp). Pacheco, too, but he would be more expensive. Also, the Rockies have soured a bit on top 3B prospect Arenado for production drop and for some attitude issues. (Nothing major, he's known to be pretty aloof in the field and that's not a fit for them.) When he's motivated, dude can hit. He projects to be a decent MLB 3B and is much better than anything the Sox have internally for that position, IMO. He could likely be had for Floyd.
  5. QUOTE (YASNY @ Nov 23, 2012 -> 10:45 AM) Viciedo has hands of stone at third base. That may work well for a boxer, but not so much at 3rd base. I want my pitchers to have a solid defense. There is an old saying in team sports that applies across the board ... defense wins championships. But you can get to the World Series without it...
  6. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Nov 11, 2012 -> 01:14 PM) Oh god, I hope not. He's just a switch hitting Tyler Flowers Flowers is a much better defensive catcher. Not close.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 10:13 PM) Not surprising at all Hearing he was loved in the clubhouse is surprising.
  8. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 8, 2012 -> 08:25 AM) It has also been reported that Texas is chasing Adam LaRoche. That means Mike Olt is probably available. They don't have a spot for him to play. Mike Olt is actually pretty unavailable. Daniels would have to be floored to move him.
  9. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 7, 2012 -> 12:35 PM) When I thought Beckham was going to be an above-average offensive player, I wanted them to keep him at 2B. Now that he's 3.67 years in, and we know he's not even an average offensive player, but shows occasional power, I wouldn't mind if they moved him back to 3B, batted him second one last time, and tried Carlos Sanchez at 2B and batted him 9th. BTW, Sanchez went 5-5 yesterday, and is hitting well over .300 in the AFL. Not that it means much, but it's better than hitting .200. He also has played exclusively at 2B. This an interesting idea though I would slot Sanchez into batting second eventually. As far as I know, the majority of the front office doesn't feel Sanchez is MLB-ready just yet. Rick is not as agressive as KW in that way. However, if Sanchez really impresses in ST he may force their hand. I believe the plan is to look outside the organization for a young, controlled 3B via trade and not be held up for long by Youk or anyone else. 3B is their top priority right now. There has been a positive trend recently in MLB of pushing AA talent straight to the bigs with little or no AAA time and Sanchez could succeed there but only as a 2B, IMO. He offers a lot of what this team needs as a selective hitter from both sides.
  10. QUOTE (spiderman @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) I will be very surprised if Floyd is the on roster next season. Right now, we know that #1 Sale, #2 Peavy #3 Danks (hopefully or at some point) #4 Jose Quintana #5 Hector Santiago. If Floyd is here, he's #4 in the rotation, but as excited as I am about Peavy being back (I didn't see how the White Sox could afford to lose an all-star pitcher and still compete in the division), they still need to actually improve their roster as well with what seems to be limited resources. 4/5 Lefty rotation? No thanks.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Nov 6, 2012 -> 11:22 AM) Marco Paddy is all of these guys boss. Yeah Paddy has a huge organizational footprint going forward.
  12. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 3, 2012 -> 02:23 PM) This website blows my mind at times. Moustakas put up a 3.5 WAR as a 23 year old this past season. I'm not sure if people realize how bad the 3B position has gotten in recent years, but that's f***ing incredible. Sure, his offense wasn't spectacular, but again, he just turned 24 years old and has only had about 1 2/3 full seasons in the pros. Considering he was the 9th ranked prospect in all of bassball in 2011, I'm going to go out on a limb and say he will get better with the bat over the next few years. And even if he doesn't, he's already one of the better all-around 3B in baseball and is under team control for the next 5 years. Thinking we can get him for Floyd or some borderline prospects is pure insanity. If I were Hahn and the Royals expressed any willingness to trade Moustakas, I'd immedietely offer up Quintana and cross my fingers. Unfortunately, I think they'd want a more proven, cost-controlled SP if they were to consider moving him and I personally can't comprehend why they'd want to trade him in the first place. THIS. THANK YOU.
  13. QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 3, 2012 -> 08:28 AM) What are the Nationals doing with Anthony Rendon? Coveting him. He's a major talent. (Injury-prone though).
  14. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 02:42 PM) Chase Headley would be a nice player to get, but after hitting 31 home runs last year, I don't know if the Padres would even trade him. Asking price for Headley is atronomical. Talks would begin and end with Sale.
  15. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 1, 2012 -> 09:04 AM) Are the Royals really looking to trade Moustakas? Absolutely not.
  16. QUOTE (Special K @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 03:42 PM) I don't know if I even want him back... not much was made of this but in the middle of an important stretch run in the last 2 weeks (i believe) youkilis missed 3 straight games due to the birth of his child. I understand 1 game, but come on, you got a job and it's the MOST IMPORTANT time to do your job. Not to mention you get paid $13M a year to do your job... No excuses and I don't want to hear any sympathy. Anyone else who tries to compare their job, please dont forget he gets significant off time while the season is over, which ended even earlier due in part to his absence from those games. This did upset quite a few on the ballclub.
  17. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 30, 2012 -> 06:21 PM) Sanchez isn't a plan. It is a smokescreen, and a poor one at that. This. Sanchez is a nice little prospect, but c'mon...his comp ceiling is Alberto Callaspo.
  18. QUOTE (QuincyStandback @ Oct 31, 2012 -> 01:03 AM) I like your idea. Credit to Fathom as he called Carpenter's value well before he burst onto the national scene in the playoffs. He would be a great fit. 3B and high OBP player from the left side. I'd move Gavin to STL for him. I still think Floyd would be a quality #3 SP in the N.L.
  19. No, not Brent Morel.... Sergio Santos.
  20. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) At $13 million? That is 2-3X's what he is worth. Yeah he was better than Morel, but Youk didn't have a good season, even when you throw out what he did in Boston. Looking at OPS he was 6th out of 10 AL 3B with 400 PAs on this season. In terms of WAR he was dead last. Expand that to all MLB 3B with 400 PAs and he was 17 of 21 in OPS, and 20th in WAR. That's pretty bad. Not to mention the guy will be a 34 year old with a bad back by the time opening day rolls around. Youk has gone through some pretty serious regression the last two years. If we can get him on a deal, sure bring him back. Odds are he is going to play something in the range of 120 games, if we are lucky and he stays healthy. If the back goes out, who knows. ++1
  21. QUOTE (IowanSoxFan @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 10:39 AM) MinorLeagueBall.com came out with their preliminary 2013 top 50 hitting and pitching prospect list. White Sox don't have a single player on either list. http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/10/8/3...s-list-for-2013 http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/10/8/3...spects-for-2013 Profar is gonna be an absolute force in the bigs someday.
  22. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 10, 2012 -> 09:56 PM) Ideal: #1: Sale #2: Peavy #3: Shields #4: Danks #5: Quintana
  23. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 09:10 AM) This year alone he showed up Peavy, Rios, De Aza and Dunn. That's only the times I remember. That s*** isn't going to fly on any team that has an ounce of leadership. He showed up Crain in Baltimore too. BTW, most of the team can't stand AJ.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Oct 9, 2012 -> 03:56 PM) Elvis Andrus (2011): 4.4 WAR, 94 wRC+ Elvis Andrus (2012): 4.2 WAR, 95 wRC+ Alexei Ramirez (2011): 4.8 WAR, 94 wRC+ Alexei Ramirez (2012): 1.8 WAR, 77 wRC+ The only way you can paint them as similar players is by ignoring their ages and trends -- all of those offensive numbers you cited are bolstered by Alexei's 2008 rookie season. Andrus is 7 years younger and has upside, Alexei is clearly declining. Profar is considereda very good defensive SS. If they move Andrus, it's to make room for Profar, not to get an older, worse player back whose long-term, market-rate contract blocks Profar longer than Andrus does. How is Zobrist a glorified role player? He's averaged 6 WAR per season over the last two. Rios just had a career resurgence and was only worth 4.3 WAR. The Rays don't even want to pay for James Shields' $9m option next year, why would they want three years of Rios at $12.5m? Why wouldn't they rather have Zobrist and his $5.5m and $7m dollar options, when he's a better defensive right fielder than Rios and can also fill in at 2B/SS? Rios (2012): .364 wOBA, 127 wRC+ Zobrist (2012): .362 wOBA, 135 wRC+ McCann's price may be driven down by his shoulder, but if the outcome of his shoulder is such that the Braves aren't even willing to give him 3/36, then we probably don't want him either. The Rays dont need to pay for Shields as they are starting pitching heavy. They have no OF strength at all. My deal includes adding OF quality + a young stud relief pitcher that replaces season-from-God Rodney. Sending AR as a stop-gap for Profar + cash + Floyd for Andrus (whom the world knows is going to be traded) I think makes sense. The Rangers need starting pitching depth desperately. If the Braves don't want to pay McCann because of uncertainty, I think the Sox can afford to as they have a solid regular in Flowers to hold it down.
  25. QUOTE (BlackBetsy @ Oct 8, 2012 -> 10:59 PM) I love this signing but he won't be a free agent until 2014. So that is kind of a problem. ATL will buy him out this offseason. 2013 salary -$12M Team Option, $500k Buyout
