  1. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 08:24 PM) I'm pretty damn certain it's a dead arm. As I said in the game thread it will be very interesting how the Sox handle this for the next few weeks. This. Not a big deal.
  2. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 27, 2012 -> 03:32 PM) Hmmm, good idea. It is a nice idea.... I wonder if....? Nevermind.
  3. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 10:39 PM) I bet Atlanta gets him There is always the "mystery team" scenario but it may be down to Tex, Sox & Braves for Greinke & Johnson and the pieces may start falling in the next day or so.
  4. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:17 PM) Bucket, you have heard the debates. If you were to "guess" what would a trade look like in your opinion? Honestly man, I can't say. I just get generalities no specifics. Guessing: Reed, Quintana & Saladino/Escobar - Greinke, cash?
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:11 PM) Any other starting pitching avenues getting serious consideration right now, or is Zack it? No idea. Johnson would have been my move, but when the Sox approached last week Hill wasn't moving him. Now his market is crazy. Credit to Kenny -he was out in front of the market on both guys but the teams were still holding.
  6. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 03:07 PM) anyother word on who else KW is looking at. i believe you said something about Josh Johnson last week as well as a possibility That ship may have sailed.
  7. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 02:45 PM) You're scaring me man, you're making it sound like KW is ready to overpay in a big way. And not like "oh he's just throwing in an extra prospect" but "he's all in, putting in Viciedo, Floyd, and Reed." Please please don't be the case. I don't think it's going to be that much of an offer. I really can't say though. I just know he's the center of their radar this week.
  8. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 02:35 PM) Here's a quote I just wanted to further point out the Sox are absolutely for real about ZG. Quote from ESPN Chicago article about how Peavy would welcome Grienke. The Sox had one of their top talent evaluators, scout Bill Scherrer, watching Greinke defeat the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night. Link:http://m.espn.go.com/mlb/story?storyId=8202045&city=chicago Oh, they're real about it alright. All over him right now.
  9. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 01:13 PM) There is almost no trade involving Greinke that would make me happy. About the most I'd give up is Floyd/Mitchell. If they want some other mediocre prospects, fine, but anything more is too steap of a price for what I feel only marginally helps the Sox get into the post-season. Now if they do, Greinke does make them more legit contenders in the postseason. However, that is way too steap of a price. If the sox were 6 games up, I'd be more willing, but the downside is you give up everything and barely miss out on the playoffs or get into a one game wild card and lose (in which case, Greinke probably isn't starting that game anyway). If I'm giving up a package with one other good prospect, I'm giving it up for a guy like Johnson that I can at least spin a year from now if things aren't working well (and get the benefit of next year). Great points. Kenny is so competitive and wants to roll the dice and win now. Hahn is the voice of reason over there. Johnson was likely more of a possibility when I posted their early interest last week. Now his market has exploded.
  10. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 12:39 PM) Bucket, I know that you have inside info and I don't expect you to give up your sources. Do you have exact player names though? I know you won't tell us and you shouldn't but do you know the names or do you just know that it's significant? If so, what are your feelings? We have seen the names thrown around. Will White Sox fans be angry if the deal happens? Don't have names. Posted exactly what I was told last night. My feelings are that because of a variety of factors (1st place/Tigers trade/attendance spike...etc) KW is really going after it this year and wants it done yesterday. I do think there are fans that will be upset about who goes. Some very real concerns throughout this thread.
  11. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jul 26, 2012 -> 08:40 AM) Floyd, one of Mitchell/Walker/Thompson, and one of the young relievers NOT named Reed. That should do it. This is just my barely-informed guess but I think Reed is a key in any deal.
  12. FWIW: KW has had an offer out there for a while now for Greinke. It's substantial and includes key mlb roster talent. Sox are very determined to land him.
  13. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 11:44 PM) So we would be giving away a big leaguer starter, a first round draft pick and a highly touted closer in Reed for a guy who will not sign with us this offseason. wow. That trade should get Kenny run out of town if Greinke doesn't re-sign. Greinke is not worth the gamble; I'm telling you, he is wacky. Enough with the "nutcase and wacky" comments. The guy has an anxiety disorder and that is not his fault. He's a supremely talented athlete and among the best in the world at what he does in spite of his psychological condition. Give it a rest already.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 08:26 AM) Plus I get the feeling that the Marlins aren't paying cash out for contracts if they weren't willing to get better players while doing so in the Hanley deal. They can't even pretend that was a baseball trade, even though they will try. Yep. Salary relief. Pure and simple. Just a ridiculous return for such a talent.
  15. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 25, 2012 -> 06:22 AM) So i guess this means the rangers are really going to be going after greinke now that hamels isnt available. Its fine, lets get johnson Johnson's price just went up a ton.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Myers looks like Jim The Anvil Neidhart with that crazy goatee. Hilarious. He does.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:18 PM) Agreed, especially after playing games in Boston and Detroit that were packed every night. Fans forcing KW's hand to make a trade, lol?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:15 PM) I think seeing a full crowd last night really pumped them up. I think it was Konerko that said he was very shocked by the size of the crowd. For most teams it's probably not much, but this team, this franchise it's a factor.
  19. Not over matched. Gets himself out. That you can work with.
  20. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:13 PM) All I can figure is cause he is already warm. This.
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:12 PM) The kid had a very short learning curve in the minors. Give him a break (Sox love him. He's not going anywhere...)
  22. QUOTE (Melissa1334 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:11 PM) they had meyers up wonder if they want to get him some more work Stupid choice. Never pitched in the AL. Why give AL scouting a chance?
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 24, 2012 -> 10:10 PM) AL-I-SAY-WHAT? LOL!
  24. And the White Sox are back in first place. "That didn't take long..."
