  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 19, 2012 -> 09:01 AM) Here's a newsflash. Viciedo has been an AWFUL fielder no matter where he has been, and it has never affected his hitting. There's bad and then there's awful. The guy booted three ground balls to him in one game last week. He came to camp expecting to play RF. They dropped this move to LF on him. It's not like he had an offseason to prepare. That's gonna affect his head.
  2. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 08:27 AM) I get that people are annoyed that Viciedo moved from 3B to RF to LF, but the alternative was to keep him at a position he's bad at, and in the minor leagues. Switched him to RF so he could get a callup and because Pierre can't play RF with his arm. I'm not 100% sure why he's in LF now, but switching corner outfield spots really should not be anything more than shrug-worthy. It's not like switching to CF or between IF spots. I understand that there are some differences in the way the ball comes off the bats of righties vs. lefties, but we have never balked at players switching corner spots before. He's in LF now to accomodate Rios' inability to play CF. Once again the Sox forcefeed a young prospect an unnatural position to accomodate an overpaid underachieving veteran. Viciedo has looked AWFUL in LF. Just brutal and it's obviously affecting his hitting.
  3. QUOTE (sunofgold @ Mar 16, 2012 -> 09:46 PM) We are getting rid of all of the suckage right now. Saving our good stuff for the real season. We still are 0-0. Spring training or not, this team is just atrocious right now.
  4. It's been weeks in LF now and I'm sure it won't affect his hitting...
  5. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Mar 4, 2012 -> 02:32 PM) That is some confidence Robin putting Rios in the 3 hole. What's the MLB record for GIDP...?!
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 2, 2012 -> 02:37 PM) It was also interesting to see the story about how much they had Sergio throw on the side. I am going to guess the Jays did the same with Molina. Did Molina pitch winter or fall ball anywhere? Don't ask KW that question, lol.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 07:32 AM) Now we are talking about Brent Morel. Could he get into the low 20's? Sure. Odds are, the .275 15HR, Good defensive 3B is who we are talking about. Which is just fine. 3B production was down all across baseball last season.
  8. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 02:44 AM) http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2012/writ...ml?eref=fromvlt Walker is going to come under some fire for letting Rios keep changing and tinkering all season long, but it seems he never felt comfortable at the plate, so what else can you do besides look at tape from the first half of 2010 and his All-Star years with the Blue Jays? Same thing with Gordon looking at UGA tape, 2009 Birmingham, June-July-August 2009 with the Sox and second half 2010 highlights. Not sure what Walker has to do with this. He has no authority over players...
  9. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 1, 2012 -> 01:59 PM) No Robin, just, no. Is there another organization that force-feeds unnatural positions to prospects more than this braintrust?
  10. QUOTE (MEANS @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 03:14 PM) liked seeing Rios with his hands up in that video. It's not the up, it's the out with Rios.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 27, 2012 -> 08:29 AM) http://espn.go.com/blog/chicago/white-sox/..._medium=twitter Yeah, well whatever works Beckham...last year it was the same spring song with reducing his media involvement...etc. For all KW's bluster about "Chicago tough", enough with the mental midget roster already.
  12. "Bell: Saladino is a very good prospect, will start 2012 in Birmingham" Uh, no. He's not. I've seen him play and talking to scouts, he's barely an average prospect right now.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 11:27 PM) Great. So we have 50ish there. 50 in the entire country is not commonplace. I list 86-90mph, you dispute 90mph. I list "at least" one, you dispute one. Whatever. I have a ton of instructs-league level reports on my desk and if you think 90mph for an 18 year old pitcher is special. You're wrong. It's not.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 07:48 PM) But how can we really say that this Cuban kid for $7 million is clearly going to be better than the lefty we got from the Padres for Quentin (Hernandez)? From everything you read, pretty similar stuff. There's a question about him (our lefty, Pedro Hernandez) ever being more than a loogy or at best, a replacement for Thornton, but that's more money than Joe Borchard and close to Dayan Viciedo territory for someone projected as a back of the rotation starter. Look at it this way, the 2012 No. 1 pick in the entire country Gerrit Cole signed an $8 million contract. Concepcion's deal is also $8M with incentives. That is insane. IN-SANE.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 10:56 AM) An 18 year old throwing 90 is not commonplace. 90 is an average major league fastball. Yes it is. Every organization in baseball has at least one 18 year old in the lower levels touching 90mph. Hell, the first round of the Rule 4 has a several of them every year.
  16. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 3, 2012 -> 04:57 AM) I have no problem with that deal for the Cubs. An 18 year old already throwing 86-90 who pitched well in a league that is supposedly equivalent to AA is extremely impressive. He may have room to grow and develop too. That's a worthwhile investment as far as I'm concerned. An 18 year old throwing 86-90 is really not that impressive , in fact it's commonplace throughout the nation. Add to that what is typically years of a culture change adjustment and a huge competition upgrade and $8M for a kid that will be lucky to pitch in the bigs in three years and peak at a 4 and I still think it's a poor investment. The CBA/Cuba factor is likely creating a ridiculous market. Cespedes and Soler are going to comman bad, bad paper too, IMO.
  17. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 08:59 PM) BenBadler Ben Badler International scouts not sure how Concepcion could command $7MM. Finesse lefty, lots of 86-90 on the gun lately. 2 minutes ago Favorite Retweet Reply $8M with incentives. Thats ridiculous for a projected 5 or 4 at best. Theo can have him, lol.
  18. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 09:41 PM) Yeah, I had figured Soler for about $20M and Cepedes around $48M. Probably a good call or close to it. I think that's about what most serious teams are going to offer.
  19. QUOTE (PolishPrince34 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:45 PM) That's crazy $7 million and a possible major league deal for Concepcion whose being considered at best #4 or #5 starting pitcher. Soler price just went way UPPPPPP. Soler will easily get $20 million. Soler was always gonna get $20M +.
  20. QUOTE (CWSpalehoseCWS @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 05:59 PM) Per MLB Trade Rumors, Cubs got Conception... The Cubs had a baby?
  21. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 11:27 AM) I'd assume that Soler will do everything humanly possible to be signed to a contract before the salary cap kicks in. Agreed. It's not a signability issue. I just mean he's not technically a FA right now.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 2, 2012 -> 07:55 AM) All you have to do is read the transcript of him talking about the Cuban players at Soxfest to know he is up to something there. No doubt The Sox have a significant offer in place for Cespedes, have pursued others aggresively and they have a great reputation within the Cuban community. I'd still rather them try and sign Soler as a first priority. He won't be signing as soon as Cespedes or Concepcion. He's a classic tools-heavy MLB RF that would instantly top most teams position player prospect list.
  23. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 08:39 PM) http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,1733235.story Further evidence of changes in the approach to amateur talent acquisition recently within the organization. THANK YOU.
  24. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 1, 2012 -> 07:56 AM) That alone wouldn't do it. What I mean is that if Dunn explodes offensively but Rios and Beckham struggle again and Humber doesn't repeat and...well you get the point. However, if the team as it is contstructed now is the team we see on opening day, Dunn popping 40+ HRs will help the Sox be at least competitive. I think offensively anyway, Dunn, Konerko, Rios, and Viciedo have to have good years. I'm talking 90+ HRs between the four of them. You have to take into account the regression factor for other players as well, -although I think the Tigers will lead the league in roster regression this season.
  25. The Sox are NOT gonna sign all three. C'mon guys. Cespedes alone could possibly sign for $40M +
