QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 02:31 PM) Manto better pray that Adam Dunn performs to his career numbers because that will make him look like a god. The first thing Dunn should do is look up Berkman down in Texas and beg him to help.

Wow, our minor league system stinks... http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/news/ar...;vkey=news_milb

So the board has one writer's thread called "Pieces to start moving soon" and another local writer's article called "Sox likely to rely on same cast in '12" NICE.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 06:10 PM) http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...ce=home_oneline I'm calling BS big time. No way this roster isn't adjusted as much as possible.

If the entire 2011 season showed us anything it's that two great myths of major league baseball don't always apply: 1) Pitching and defense wins 2) Highest payroll wins Therefore, I think it's reasonable for the team to attempt to build a solid, competitive core and hope it clicks. This team needs a lobotomy and replacing The Mouth and his boys with Ventura and new coaches is a helluva start.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 19, 2011 -> 05:15 PM) @jimcallisBA: #WhiteSox, no contest. @musiqboateng: which team has the worst farm system in the majors? Wow. No contest. I'd love to hear Buddy Bell or Kenny Williams' retort. I'm sure he considered the #4 & #5 Marlins prospects we just picked up.

Yawn...whatever Cowley. Old news. Try harder.

QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Oct 11, 2011 -> 03:36 PM) http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...lb&c_id=mlb This just shows that this organization is lost and clueless. They are going in circles with no good plan. Please hurry up and save them from themselves.

What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
macsandz replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
How about Danks, AJ & Thornton for Logan Morrison & Chris Volstad? Danks would dominate the NL and be FLA's only LHP in the rotation and would compliment Josh Johnson very well. AJ reunites with Ozzie and gives FLA a quality catcher and lefty bat. Thornton would do well in the NL. LoMo has worn out his welcome with the Marlins. The kid is a stud and would add a nice controlled centerpiece to play LF for years. Volstad is a classic Sox reclamation project. A 1st round pick that never panned out. He's still young and has potential. I believe FLA has probably run out of patience. The Marlins are in aggressive mode with new leadership and a new stadium. The Sox are rebuilding. This deal would make sense for both teams. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 02:18 PM) Those are three players he specifically worked with heavily. Flowers swing is totally different than when he was brought into the org. Becks should be next.

QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 01:57 PM) Good God. No major league coaching or managing experience. And will anyone on that coaching staff speak Spanish? I'm a big Kenny Williams supporter, but this doesn't feel good at all. I sure hope KW knows what the hell he's doing. Cooper speaks spanish fluently.

Sox could explore deals for AJ/PK-Merkin
macsandz replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 10, 2011 -> 01:45 PM) AJ is definitely on the block this offseason. I mentioned it before. It makes alot of sense. Flowers has made AJ expendable as the pitchers prefer to pitch to him. Not too many saw that coming. -
What can the Sox realistically expect in a trade for Danks
macsandz posted a topic in Pale Hose Talk
I'm trying to determine a little bit if there could be a decent market for guys like Danks, Quentin or Floyd if the Sox deal them this winter. I would think John Danks would bring the most. Teams like BOS or NYY the would pay well for Danks seeing as starting pitching cost them their seasons and they are committed to big contracts. All things considered, does Danks bring a top prospect? For NY -I would look at a guy like Austin Romine © who is blocked by Montero. As for BOS -Ryan Kalish (OF) is a kid with five tools that plays very had. He's coming of surgery but is projected to be a star. He's blocked by Reddick and Nava. Thoughts? -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) I want him to not sound like someone completely unprepared for what's to come... sadly, that's what he is, though. Please tell us in detail exactly how he's "completely unprepared"?
-
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:38 PM) All of your evidence that he'll do this is absolutely spectacular. Well he has a long history of doing that very thing with his teammates within the organization as stated by several players recently. Your evidence he won't continue this is even more impressive.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 12:27 PM) So does anyone know anything about Ventura's mindset as a manager? Does he play small ball, does he favor statistics, is he somewhat in between? Or is he such a WTF hire that nobody knows? Sorry to interrupt the melodramatic whining this tread is overflowing with to interject actual facts, but KW stated yesterday that based on his many discussions with Ventura, Robin's mindset as a Manager will include a combo of progressive use of metrics and an old-school insistence that his players be accountable, play the game using fundamentals and with a clear mind not filled with too much information. Sounds like EXACTLY what this team needs. We now return to our regularly scheduled hyperbolic programming....

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 09:35 AM) We are going to keep the poll question simple to see the reaction of Soxtalk. Expound your on answers here so that they are preserved for posterity's sake. This hire was made as much for this roster as it is a representation of a positive culture change and I'm all for it. You think guys that the young core of this team going forward -guys like Beckham, Morel, Viciedo, Sale...etc. had any kind of rapport with Ozzie?! No f*cking chance. Not after he trashed them publicly before they even arrived. BTW, if it hasn't been mentioned already, KW described Ventura's style based on his interviews as a progressive approach based in sabermetrics as well as old-school where players are expected to look beyond themselves (i.e. get out of the video room and their own heads) and always are held accountable. Love it. Sign me up.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Oct 6, 2011 -> 09:04 PM) Including the Sox organization. Can anyone really say how he will work with players? He's never been in any type of role to teach, mentor, coach or anything. Seems like a huge gamble to let him start now. What if he has huge issues communicating to players or getting them to follow his lead. You might want to look into the fact that Ventura has worked with several past and present players both in the minors and on the current 40-Man roster in recent seasons as teacher, mentor and coach in AZ before each season.
-
QUOTE (Real @ Oct 7, 2011 -> 01:17 AM) the outrage is that he was hired, without anyone else even given the opportunity of an interview, the outrage is that there were highly praised, better qualified options available and none of them were even an afterthought unless Ventura declined Kenny's offer this was Kenny getting his yes-man, and he couldn't have that with LaRussa, Francona, Martinez, or Alomar. that's all this is, and thus outrage Not you, nor anyone else on this messageboard can speak to which candidate is "better qualified" to manage this team. There is no way in hell anyone here could possibly have any sense of what would qualify someone to hold that title, with these players, for this franchise. Ever. But so many here believe they can and thus feel compelled to outrage. Hilarious.

Is Carlos Quentin going to be on this team in 2012?
macsandz replied to sunofgold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (klaus kinski @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 08:45 PM) kW has a big ego, and this is one of his trades that almost worked. Quentin goes only as a last resort True...2 seasons ago. -

Let's not forget the Sox just picked up a couple of pretty good prospects for Scarface. -
QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 5, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) Apparently, the Red Sox are looking at bringing in a younger manager instead of a big name one. They are going to be going head to head for Dave Martinez and Sandy Alomar Jr with us. Hopefully Kenny doesn't mess around and is interviewing these guys as we speak. I could see Martinez going to Boston and that's who I really want. Rays would never let that happen.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Oct 3, 2011 -> 02:22 PM) Phil Rogers What kids? RT pgammo Ken Williams says "we're going to let the kids play," will know what they have in mid-season, young culture coming 1 minute ago Phil is right for once. How is Phil "right"? The season doesn't start for 7 months....The "kids" are prospects he gets back for Danks, Floyd...etc.
