QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 02:03 PM) Things are heating up wonder who plan B is? D Lee.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:45 PM) See, you think the best hitter is a guy who hits for a high average. ' Bucket of suck thinks the best hitter is the guy who produces the most runs. There's a difference of opinion as to what characteristic the best hitter should have... You don't need high averages to win games...you need runs.
-
QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 01:33 PM) Depends on what you mean by best hitter. Adam Dunn is the best hitter on this team, but some people might not believe that since he can't hit for average. Best hitter = run producer. Simple. Sox best hitter? Adam Dunn.

QUOTE (TomPickle @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:57 PM) I'd love to get Willingham. He'd obviously be a better #3 hitter than Rios, but I don't know if would want Rios hitting behind Dunn and Konerko with all the ground balls he hits. Willingham Dunn PK That would be an insane stretch of .OBP... -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 6, 2010 -> 12:37 PM) Quentin + throw-in for Willingham? Yes please. It would likely take Q + Tank. At that price may as well go for BJ Upton. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 5, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) I adore this trade. Our OF defense would be insane and Upton's skillset would make him a weapon at the Cell. CQ/Tank would be an overpay. Upton's defense appears to have fallen off. He has been below-average on defense, according to UZR/150 that suggests Upton was better than average in 2008-09. Even though his strikeout and walk rates are similar to his career averages, Pitch f/x data shows that Upton is swinging at more pitches than ever, especially ones out of the strike zone. -

Going All In Then It's Time to Try Beckham in 3 Spot
macsandz replied to Marty34's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:09 AM) Time to push the learning curve for Beckham. I don't think they win the division with him hitting 9th or Rios hitting 3rd, and while Beckham may be best suited in the 2 spot I believe he still has the potential to be a solid 3 hitter. A Beckham/Dunn/Konerko*/Rios, middle of the order minimizes the base-clogging of having Dunn/Konerko batting back-to-back. Gordon is a quality hitter, no doubt but he's not ready to hit 3rd. After last season the very worst thing the Sox could do is pressure him to produce in the 3 hole. Now, the Dunn signing does make that spot a coveted position in the lineup for years to come. Hitting Dunn 4th makes sense to me and who ever hits in front of him is gonna see some great pitches. I suggest Quentin get a shot there. If he's not traded ( and I still think he will be...) sliding him back to 3 in front of Dunn is a great way to get the most out of what we all know is an explosive but inconsistent bat. -
QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 09:45 PM) Heard on radio that Rangers are making a serious run at Konerko. Heyman tweeted tonight he predicts PK returns to the ChiSox next week at the meetings.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) I played around with Pierre Beckham Rios Konerko Dunn Quentin Pierzynski Ramirez Morel Last night on mlb 10 the Show (some psycho is updating the daily trades. Needless to say, that is one crazy-potent lineup. I'm about 45 games into a MLB 10 The Show Franchise with this lineup: (I've been working with Dunn, AJ & Konerko for weeks now...) Pierre Beckham Konerko Dunn Quentin Pierzynski Rios Ramirez Morel The team is 30-15.

Sox engaged in "advanced trade discussions"
macsandz replied to Leonard Washington's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (joeynach @ Dec 4, 2010 -> 01:22 PM) My gut tells me KW is in on Heath Bell. Hes a solid closer who will make something between 5-6M in arbitration so hes rather affordable. Yeah. With Gonzalez gone, what's the point in holding onto Bell? Viciedo for Bell is a nice trade for both sides. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 10:21 PM) Putz also hurt his knees. That really screwed things up. Like it or not, it's not a good bet to think he'll stay 100% healthy the full season. But...that's also why he's in our price range. Can't recall the exact record, (to lazy to look it up) but JJ had some kind of scoreless innings record last season. I think it was 22. Putz returning is huge. They're getting the band back together.

I vote for Konerko. I think whatever fall-off PK would have next season is mitigated by having Dunn hitting behind him. Paul has never been protected like this. Not even by Thome.
-
QUOTE (WHITESOXRANDY @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 07:38 PM) I don't mind Dunn being the DH but I can't believe how much the Sox overpaid for him. s***. When you consider that the Sox could get a much better hitter like Vlad Guerrero on a two or three year deal at $ 6-7 mil per or even Thome on a 1 year deal for $ 4-5 mil. and Thome's better at 41 than Dunn is at 31. There's just no way that Dunn as a DH and not even close to being one of the best hitters in baseball or even a valuable player should command $ 14 mil. per year. Pujols will get $ 25 mil. per and if he was only a DH he would get much less and he's three times the hitter. It's just a huge overpayment. And, now how do the Sox convince Konerko to take less money than Dunn when he is clearly a far better baseball player. Dunn as a DH is a 6.0 WAR player. 6 more wins a season. That is HUGE. There are only a handful of those guys in baseball.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 02:14 PM) I think I need to start selling blood so that I can get some season tickets once again. Yeah, seriously, fans need to acknowledge that JR is investing in the roster in a HUGE way going forward and come out and support the team.

QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) He looks so playful in those pics. Like a big furry kitten with a ball of string! No, no, put the glove down you big cutie and come snugglezies with Papa! Lefty power bats are so awesome. Especially when they complement righty power bats so well. BTW, guys both Dunn & AJ adjusted their deals to afford PK...

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) The minute Adam Dunn steps up to the plate, he's in a scoring position. That's all that matters. Who ever hits in front of him is gonna owe the guy his next contract.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 3, 2010 -> 12:09 PM) He has a career .902 OPS overall, and a career .890 OPS with RISP. He had a bad year with RISP in 2010 and a great year in 2009. So yeah, that's an indicator of how good of a hitter he really is. The only indicator if how good a hitter is couldn't be more simple - does he lead to runs? Dunn? - YES
