Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar
macsandz replied to macsandz's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 04:01 PM) In terms of raw value that's a loser for the Cardinals right now...Quentin's value has just dropped so much between injuries and disappointment. Only those that thought he was 2008 Quentin should be disappointed. Some Sox fans think of him as some MVP level savior that needs anti-psychotic meds or something. The guy is young, relatively cheap and good for 25 HRs/85RBIs/800+OPS a year. I'd like to see what we can get for him in a deal, but if he stays put, DH him and his value and production should be excellent. -
Colby Rasmus should be on the White Sox radar

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 15, 2010 -> 12:43 PM) I write for that blog and the guy who wrote that isn't exactly the brightest... I had to edit the article to hell to make it look at least semi-professional. Half of those proposals don't make sense. My favorite line from the piece? "Science even shows that the human brain doesn’t stop developing until the age of 25 for most males. " -
I think Kenny will be targeting Colby Rasmus. He'd be that left handed bat to help balance the lineup and his .860 OPS and .366 wOBA were first among full-time NL CFs. It would take a serious haul to acquire him as he is cost-controlled for 4 more years. Here is a nice article on Rasmus and his value: http://pinetarandpocketprotectors.wordpres...us-trade-value/ In that article they suggest a few possible deals: To the Yankees for: Brett Gardner, Manny Banuelos To the Braves for: Craig Kimbrel, Arodys Vizcaino, Omar Infante (one year until free agency) To the Blue Jays for: Shaun Marcum, Zach Stewart To the Marlins for: Mike Stanton straight up I think you can get a good feel for his value with these somewhat generic proposals. I would say to the White Sox for John Danks, Gregory Infante, Brandon Short

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 01:31 PM) I'd like to see Kearns on this team. He'd make a lot of sense financially. Stick him in right field and DH Quentin. As a DH, Quentin would actually be a 2 WAR player. Kearns is a good call for the Sox: 1.125 OPS at the Cell in 2010.

QUOTE (GLOAD is GOD @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 08:44 PM) I think the Kemp idea is a good one....but I like the Adam Lind idea even more. He'd be great to buy low on if we can, (obviously he'd come at a steep price, but we'd be buying low considering his 09 campaign) If you get Kemp from LA and Lind: Pierre - LF Becks - 2B Rios - CF Lind - DH Konerko (Wildcard if you can sign him or not) - 1B Kemp - RF AJ - C Lexi - SS Teahen - 3B Pitching: Peavy Buehrle Jackson Floyd or Danks (Whichever isn't traded) Freddy or Pena Either Floyd or Danks goes in one of the trades..... Quentin, Morel, Viciedo, even Sale (I know, gawk!), Flowers, anyone of them up for grabs.....I could see swingin Jackson for salary relief and more young pieces to make it work as option as well.... Pipedream (kinda) I know.... But Lind could be dangerous going righty lefty righty with Rios and Kemp or Rios Kong You lost me at "Teahen - 3B"...

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 08:04 PM) And who, pray tell, is in you're rotation then? Still the division's best rotation: Peavy Buehrle Jackson Floyd Sale or until Peavy is ready: Buehrle Jackson Floyd Garcia Sale Then move Sale into the bullpen when Jake comes back. Danks is a very nice trade chip that is gonna want big money soon. He could win 18-20 games in the NL and would return a stud player in a deal.
-
QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Oct 9, 2010 -> 04:47 PM) Maybe because he never showed a tendency to walk a lot of batters in the minors, and was clearly jittery in his first few starts. In 2011 we'll judge how that trade really pans out. The NL will have another look at Hudson. Jackson was an All Star in the AL and pitched very well there again for the Sox.

QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) I'd like to know where the White Sox stand in comparison to the rest of the league in terms of payroll (the amount they're paying, not including money that's being covered by other teams). I have a feeling they're closer to the middle of the pack than the top. I'm not saying they're cheap exactly, but I don't think they spend an especially high amount. $100 million sounds like a ton, but I'm starting to think that quite a few other teams are in that range. The Sox took on $120M in new contracts in 2009.

The Chicago White Sox trade LHP John Danks, C Tyler Flowers and RHP Andre Rienzo to the Los Angeles Dodgers for CF Matt Kemp. Do it Kenny. Then sign Carlos Pena to play 1B/DH. Pierre - LF Beckham - 2B Rios - CF Pena - 1B Kemp - RF Ramirez - SS Pierzynski -C Viciedo - DH Morel - 3B

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 04:05 PM) Ozzie.....ugh! I don't believe anyone with the Sox thinks Rios is not the answer in CF for several more years. He's been good out there for the most part.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 8, 2010 -> 05:22 PM) Yet some don't understand why the Jackson/Hudson trade didn't make a lick of sense. The Sox have known they aren't gonna bring PK back for a while and Jackson is in the mix for 2011 -what the team knows is their last push before a new influx and a likely fall from contender.

QUOTE (sircaffey @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 11:34 PM) Not at all. Personally, I think he's one of the more overrated "stars" in the game. And considering the Cell would eliminate some of the speed from his game, Dunn should be the Sox #1 target, imo. Crawford was a 6.8 WAR player this season. That is outstanding. (Konerko was a 4.2) He's worth $20M per.
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 09:51 PM) I don't believe the report that Crawford is the Sox' number one target anyway and I doubt that they will sign him. But regardless, I hope the Sox wouldn't pay the guy a ton of money and then plan to play him out of position. If the Sox sign Crawford he better be their starting Left Fielder. Why would you not believe he's their #1 target? He should be.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 09:35 PM) With Carter coming up, I wouldn't be surprised if Beane does trade Barton. Barton's a nice player, but you would like more power at 1B than what he provides. Barton's a lot like Mark Grace actually. I'm a big Barton fan, but you're right he's not gonna slug what a typical 1B provides, although he'd probably hit 15+ hrs for the Sox. He gives you an .800 OPS which this team desperatley needs. From multiple players. If the Sox did deal Quentin (+) for Barton, they'd need to find some thump for sure. Quentin was an .821 OPS last season.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 07:48 PM) I would obviously jizz myself if the Sox managed to land Crawford (and Pierre's bat would be great at 9), but for f***'s sake the playoffs are still on and I see no reason to buy into this whatsoever. It'd take a lot of creative work to fit him on the team, not that it's impossible but I just can't see it. I'm telling you all what was reported. According to a Sox source, Crawford is priority #1 this off-season.
-
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) I'm sure they are targeting every LH bat on the market. If they are going after Crawford that means Konerko's ship has sailed. I think PK is gone and it may be the best thing for the team going forward. They need that money and Paul is diminishing returns as an investment.

QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 06:28 PM) Someone mentioned Daric Barton for CQ & someone. It would take CQ, Danks, and Morel more than likely to acquire him. Really?! Barton is good but he's not a star and has below average power at a power position. I believe he cleared waivers a few months ago. OAK needs power desperately and Quentin would provide that. Quentin + Danks + Morel would be an overpay.
-
LF-Pierre SS-Ramirez RF-Crawford CF-Rios 1B-Daric Barton (acquired from OAK for Quentin + ?) DH-Viciedo + C-AJ 2B-Beckham 3B-Morel
-
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 05:57 PM) What happens to Juan Pierre then? Just guessing, but Crawford to RF. Quentin is out. I think the team is sick of his baggage. They'd also likely have to deal Danks as fallout from that monster Crawford contract.
-
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 7, 2010 -> 05:44 PM) Yawnnnnnnnnnnnn. And that's not a diss at you, Bucket of suck. You're just reporting what you heard. We've got no chance at Crawford. I ain't about to get excited about this. Yeah, I know but maybe this is that one player the team goes all in on. Konerko off the books helps. They could offer $10M+ per season possibly. Crawford is known to be the player Kenny covets more than anybody in MLB...
-
That's a helluva target. The Sox have a history of coming up short on big name free agents and Crawford is a big name this off-season. The usual suspects will be involved as suitors, (ANA, NY, PHI, BOS...etc.) and the Sox are gonna need to find something like $120M to offer him. They obviously know this and they are going hard after him. This guy is special and well worth a serious pursuit.

We all know Kenny likes to trade to acquire talent more than sign free agents. This offseason more than most I think he's willing to deal his own impact talent to shake up the make up. Players likely to be on the Sox Block: Gavin Floyd Carlos Quentin Edwin Jackson Tyler Flowers The window for the current core closes after 2011. Time to build a new one. Some young players the team should consider trading for: Daric Barton - Young, quality lefty 1B, that can hit and get on base. Barton has walked 15.8% of the time, tops in the majors. .800 OPS in 2010. Quality glove as well. Matt Kemp - OF. Five tool player that needs a change of scenery. Power + speed. Kenny willing to risk to acquire young, big time upside with attitude? You bet. BJ Upton - OF. Another five tool talent that would upgrade the OF defense a ton. Power + speed. See above... Travis Snider - OF. Young lefty hitting power prospect. Could replace Quentin in RF. Leo Nunez - RHP. Had 30 saves in 2010. Intense competitor. They need starters and Floyd or Jackson would fit nicely. John Axford - RHP. Emerged as the Brewers closer in 2010. They desperately need starters and Floyd or Jackson would fit nicely. Kyle McClellan - RHP. Sinkerballer worked in the bullpen the last 3 seasons. His ERA/WHIP has lowed each year. Also had 2 saves for the Cards in 2010.

QUOTE (thxfrthmmrs @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 07:36 PM) Jeter won numerous GGs by playing for a big market team, and being constantly featured in highlight reel plays. Fact is he lacks great range and shouldn't even be considered for the GG. After Franklin Gutierrez failed to win it last year despite clearly being the best fielder in baseball, you really have to take the GG awards with a grain of salt, it merely an award base on reputation. Alexei is clearly the best fielding SS in the AL this season, and he isn't even a lock to win it. Track record only suggests that Kemp had been a mediocre RF in the past. He definitely has the tools to be better. but like Balta said, until he changes his approach to the game, you shouldn't expect a great season defensively at RF from this guy. The Sox need an upgrade out there for sure and Kemp or someone similar would really make a difference.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:51 PM) What are the odds that Konerko comes back, realistically? I think the Sox want him back, but at their price which is probably at or below competitive. After this season which almost killed him, Kenny is likely gonna be creative and ultra-aggressive this winter and re-signing Konerko would really tie his hands. Paulie gave us a career year and it wasn't enough. To merely shuffle the same deck of cards with PK, AJ, Jones and others all coming back would be futile and pointless. I think they have to re-sign AJ as they really have no other options. Kenny has too many guys returning because they have to (Teahen, Linebrink) not because they are a planned part of the future. Guys like Viciedo, Sale, Morel and De Aza are going to be counted on because they are needed to offset dumb money which could force the franchise into spinning it's wheels out of contention again next season. Bringing in new blood is what it's gonna take to win the Central next year not hoping the same guys just "play better and stay healthy."

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 3, 2010 -> 06:16 PM) Kemp won that gold glove with his bat. He does not have a track record of stellar defense, he has a track record of adequate defense in CF. Prior to this season of course...when he was well below adequate. Of course...adequate defense in CF sometimes translates to above average defense in corner OF spots. Trouble is...some of the reasons why Kemp's defense has been bad this year may relate to personal/professionalism issues. Things like not preparing hard for defense. I think LA would jump on Kemp for Floyd. They'd feel like that was an immediate win. I'm saying that that Kemp in RF would be a defensive upgrade in RF from what we're used to. I also feel that his lapses on D and on the base paths this season are an aberration and he'd benefit from a change of scenery including moving from Torre to Ozzie. I think Gavin folded in big games too often. He's very weak mentally and has reached his max potential with the Sox. Sale has given us a nice opportunity to move him for good value. Kemp is a classic Kenny target. A highly-touted young star with a very high ceiling that has something to prove. Just my opinion, but I think the Sox would be a very good fit for him. He's got 5 tool talent.
