  1. QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Aug 14, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) He'd probably bring in an additional $1-2M in revenue....and if we as able to get us to the post season it could be a lot more... Left fielder Manny Ramirez would be risky for a team to claim; the Dodgers likely would let him go, assuming that Ramirez was willing to waive his no-trade clause. The claiming club then would assume the pro-rated portion of his $20 million salary, which on Aug. 31 still would be more then $3 million. The deferrals in Ramirez's contract would make no difference in the amount his new club would pay; only the timetable might be affected. Ramirez’s contract stipulates a $5 million salary this season and deferred payments without interest of $3.33 million each on June 30, 2011 and ’12 and $8.33 million on June 30, 2013. If Ramirez cleared waivers, he would be eligible to be traded to any team -- and he would be wise to waive his no-trade clause for an American League club that would allow him to serve as a DH and build his value for free agency this off-season. Ramirez, recovering from a right calf strain, could begin a rehabilitation assignment this week. The Dodgers cannot place him on waivers until after they activate him from the disabled list. — Ken Rosenthal
  2. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 15, 2010 -> 12:17 PM) I'm not at all against giving Rios a couple days off, even. We need him to get back to form if we even want a shot. Rios leads the AL with a .412 daytime batting average.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:24 PM) Quentin back to the 5th spot instead of the 7th spot, Alexei in the 2 spot, Beckham back in the lineup, Quentin at DH., lots of possible other positives. Quentin as DH has nothing to do with the 6 run misplay he made in MIN during Danks' last start against them...
  4. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 03:23 PM) Not having Carlos in the field is also a big plus. Helps avoid injury and vastly improves the OF defense. Yeah, but the 3B defense takes a hit until the later innings.
  5. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Chances Dayan takes Perkins deep? Chances Dayan gets an elevated fastball?
  6. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 02:07 PM) All I remember is when Danks shut them b****es down in game 163. That's what everybody remembers but he's been killed by Cuddyer, Kubel and Mauer since. Tonight is no lock by any means.
  7. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Aug 11, 2010 -> 12:48 PM) On paper the Sox should walk away with this one rather easily.......I said the same thing on Friday........ The offense is back to killing this team with the help of giving outs away. Have you seen Danks' numbers against the Twins?! NOT GOOD.
  8. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 10, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Quentin drops to 7th? Ozzie must think he's really not there mentally and needs a shakeup. No doubt Quentin is a mental meltdown lately.
  9. Baker has been tough lately. He beat Garcia at the Cell earlier in the season 2-1. This one's not gonna be easy, boys.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 9, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) Pierre LF Ramirez SS Rios CF Konerko 1B Quentin DH AJ C Viciedo 3B Jones RF Lillibridge 2B Jackson P Apparently AJ is gonna be Jackson's guy, but I'd rather see Castro in there to supply some kind of punch. AJ has been just pathetic this season.
  11. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 08:35 PM) Beckham not sure he'll be back for the Twins series...yuck! FrodoBridge to the rescue!
  12. QUOTE (AWhiteSoxinNJ @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Mark Teahen-3B- White Sox Aug. 8 - 3:54 pm et Mark Teahen (finger) could use all of the allotted 20 days on his rehab assignment. It had been previously reported that he could return as early as August 10, but he's only seven games into his rehab, so it doesn't look like that will happen. Teahen is hitting .421 over those seven contests, so he appears ready at the plate, but the White Sox want him to play several positions more since he will be used in a utility role when he returns. Screw it, just get his bat up here. Pronto. Kotsay is making me violent.
  13. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 8, 2010 -> 10:01 PM) Wow... I would have sure love to have Berkman for nothing. That + EJax would have been a hell of a deadline. No doubt. I loved the way Kenny and Rick..etc handled their business at the deadline. Good of Peavy to try and sell Berkman on the Sox. Not getting a bat truly pissed everybody off, especially Kenny. But, he did say "We aren't getting anybody...right now..." See my avatar for details.
  14. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 7, 2010 -> 12:27 PM) This ^
  15. QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Aug 6, 2010 -> 03:20 PM) How is the Elf in the outfield defensively? He's a decent CF actually.
  16. The guy is old and hasn't played in over a year. How in the world is he gonna have any kind of decent skills against the best players in the world after that kind of time and 2 hip surgeries?! PASS.
  17. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Aug 4, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) This is a good point. Also, KW has a national media source that he leaks information to in order to create false interest and use in a beneficial manner. The true fact is that the Sox were never close to getting Dunn because Rizzo always insisted on Beckham being in the deal. He never wanted Jackson from us. How serious are they still on Manny? Does Kenny expect to pick him up? It seems like he does. Did they ever pursue Hawpe? Would they still put in a claim on him?
  18. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20...rtnerId=rss_cws "Personally, the numbers out there for Kotsay [are not what] he deserves. "You can ask his teammates, you can ask [hitting coach] Greg Walker. He should have better numbers than what he has. " What the hell is this?! This is a game production, or you're replaced. So Kotsay deserves to be a better hitter? The team deserves to have him deliver better stats. The Sox deserve to win the World Series this season. Maybe Ozzie can convince the rest of baseball.
  19. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:47 PM) Oh not this again...you and your obsession with money...do you realize the owners of baseball teams have access to all sorts of credit lines and loans etc? I cannot understand how you can possibly view the finances of a MLB team as some cookie jar that is either empty or is not.. To this point, MLB itself has been financially bailing out the Texas Rangers all season. I'm sure Selig loved seeing the Rangers add payroll last month...
  20. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:43 PM) I agree. If teams have $6-7 million to spend on a loose cannon, despite his talent, for a third of the season they have a lot of explaining to do. If the Sox were willing to pay that much they wouldn't have screwed around with their lowball offer. Manny can hit, but there's some question marks. Attitude, health, both getting healthy and staying healthy, and while he's been good since his PED bust, he's certainly not what he was. I can't see the White Sox pay a guy that kind of money for 50 games to DH when they wouldn't give others that for an entire season. Manny has good numbers in limited ABs but certainly not eye popping. Kenny knew what he was doing. He knows the Dodgers don't want to give Manny another dime. Certainly not as they fall out of contention with Manny on the "timeout" DL. Kenny had no intention of trading for Manny last weekend. He indicated to Coletti that he'd be there to relieve him of Manny when the Dodgers fell out if it. Kenny is in every team's business and he knows nobody will claim him.
  21. QUOTE (iamshack @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 08:31 PM) Yeah...you have to have a way to forget these clunkers somehow... Not hard to forget. If The Rays hang on to win, this loss basically never happened.
  22. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) I don't know if Hawpe is the same hitter he was a couple of years ago. I used to really like the idea of him DHing for this team, but now I'm pretty eh. I literally pictured your avatar today when Kotsay was robbed again earlier. Brilliant.
  23. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:49 PM) I don't know if Hawpe is the same hitter he was a couple of years ago. I used to really like the idea of him DHing for this team, but now I'm pretty eh. Compared to other options, the guy is a young, clutch, quality hitter.
  24. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:24 PM) I'd like Brad Hawpe. He was an All Star last year, but the guy is in a down year because of injuries. He's a nice lefty bat with power and a quality career OBP. He's playing 1B these days and if he brings a glove, he should stay there and not go near the OF. He's collecting $7.5M this year which should also allow for him to clear waivers. For 2011 there is a $10M Team Option, with a $500k Buyout. I know Kenny was in discussions with COL about him recently, but the Rox wanted to hang on to him as Helton wasn't back yet and they are fighting for their lives. He's picking up the production lately as he's finally healthy: Last 7 days: .294/.400/.765/1.165 I spelled feasible wrong in the title...in ALL CAPS. What a moron.
  25. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Aug 3, 2010 -> 04:31 PM) Listening to Boers and Bernstein on the Score, it really looks like Manny Ramirez is a big possibility. It seems like Kenny is just sitting back waiting to pounce. Yeah, that explains Kenny initial offer last weekend.
