  1. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:49 PM) Why is JJ not closing games these days?! Make-up call time!
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:46 PM) He didn't even throw his arms out in the safe sign like he usually does . Probably since the last time he did that he was called out. Why is JJ not closing games these days?!
  3. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:30 PM) Brad Penny went on the DL with a strained Lat 5/22. He was supposed to throw a simulated game today, but had soreness in his bicep. Using that as a very rough guideline Peavy ready again by start of September. Peavy is a fitness machine. Penny is not even close to being in the kind of shape Jake is in. Nor is he anywhere near the competitor Peavy is.
  4. QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Gonzales tweets Bill Swift of San Fran, missed a month in 1994 with similar injury. And that was 16 years ago. No way Peavy is out until September.
  5. QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:16 PM) I think Peavy is out until after the Minnesota series, maybe misses 1-2 starts. Maybe two. They can also use the AS Break to reset the rotation order like before. Hudson should hold his own in the meantime.
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:15 PM) I am glad to see the usual cliff jumping crowd was wrong. The important question now is how long does it take Peavy to get back? Probably a couple weeks. Actual starts? I would guess 2 or 3.
  7. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:11 PM) hooray I was right and everyone here jumped off a cliff as usual. Strained Brad Penny just did that. He's due back after the AS Break.
  8. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:07 PM) You have no way of knowing this. I understand you're trying to look on the bright side, but Peavy easily could have known immediately that he tore a ligament or tendon. The only way he could have easily self-diagnosed like that is if he had injured a ligament or tendon in his pitching arm before in his life. He probably just strained a muscle.
  9. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 10:00 PM) I don't share your optimism obviously. We all know Jake Peavy is a competitor. I can't see him just going right out of the game unless he knew something was very wrong. He doesn't know anything more than he couldn't go tonight - and that's as much as we know. He has inflammation in the shoulder which is pretty painful.
  10. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:56 PM) I don't know about that, especially with the very real possibility of the Twins acquiring Lee. I'd say we need another hitter and a good reliever, but then we'd only be able to make it by the skin of our teeth. "Very real possibility?" BS. There are at least other 3 teams in on a Lee deal. The Twins in no way have any kind of inside track there. The Twins suck and have sucked under .500 for 2 months now.
  11. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Jul 6, 2010 -> 09:54 PM) I don't think that has any bearing it. The situation feels like a kick in the balls. Relax, guys. No need to grab a gun. Just wait for a report. We know he has bursitis in the shoulder, but we also know that the earlier MRI showed only that. He likely just worsened that condition and maybe something more. He'll probably 15 day DL + AS Break. Hudson is a helluva replacement. Sox won't miss a beat.
  12. QUOTE (knightni @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:47 PM) We survived for 6 or 7 years with Karkovice doing that. OMG, Karko. He of the 20 HRs and 30 RBIS.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:42 PM) Well, you win 2 of 3 if your pen doesn't give up 5 tonight. Of course, I doubt Greinke comes out unfocused if he didn't have that 6 run lead. I really hated that 1st inning bomb Jake gave up to Butler. I though for sure they gameplanned to just pitch around him as he had 2 outs and he's hit Peavy hard in his career. Jake just served up a 3-1 heater and Butler was sitting on it.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:39 PM) I think you have to be a bit more patient with catchers than other position players. I dunno if he'll ever turn into what he looked like he might a year ago, but he has the ability to be the best catcher we've had since Carlton Fisk. Yeah, it's all or nothing at the plate for him lately. I did like the recent reports on him defensively. The Sox just don't have many chips these days and Hudson should be close to untouchable unless its a huge haul like you said.
  15. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:38 PM) Ugh, thanks for reminding me. Three quality starts - two losses to KC. Kenny has gotta be working the phones like an NBA GM these days.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:36 PM) A guy like Jones doesn't make me want to give up Flowers. If we're going to give up Flowers, I'd rather just go for broke and give up he and Hudson for some kind of stud player. If not, I'd rather try and find a cheaper solution. Flowers' upside is crashing fast.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:32 PM) Hah, sorry...was just playing a joke on SoxAce...but Fathom had to go and ruin it... Him and his 564893639462073 posts... No worries. How much does it suck when the Sox lose the night before an off day?
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:27 PM) I'm a big fan, and you could get him without having to give up Hudson. I have no idea what PIT would ask for but it won't be insane like the Dunn price. Maybe Flowers would do the trick.
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 10:26 PM) anyone? 1B/OF with pop from the left side. Current slash: .284/.356/.449/.805 Don't Look Ace! Ahhh! What is this Project Bluebook?!
  20. QUOTE (Real @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) Feels like getting sucker punched in the stomach. The f***ing Kansas City Royals. When will this organization ever play these s*** teams the way the rest of the league plays them. Unreal. Didn't Detroit just lose a series to KC?
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:15 PM) It's going to take more than Torres, Lillibridge, CJ Retherford or John Shelby III. They're going to ask for Danks, another pitcher not named Hudson and maybe a low minors arm at least. anyone? 1B/OF with pop from the left side. Current slash: .284/.356/.449/.805 Don't Look Ace!
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 30, 2010 -> 03:03 PM) Jr must be feeding Cowley bad info again... So he talked to Rick Hahn. Whatever. The deal is not gonna happen anyway now that's it's public and the Sox have lost leverage. Just deal Torres for LaRoche and let's be done with it. Laroche has a A TON of RBIs this month. He's exactly what we need to end the Kotsay era forever.
  23. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 29, 2010 -> 02:48 PM) I will put a finer point on it. This does not seem like Kenny's m.o.: an article comes out saying Kenny is in talks about a specific player, that he is targeting that specific player over and above other similar players (as the "sources" say), and then picks up that player. That's exactly what happened just before Kenny traded for Pierre: http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2009/12...er_talk_fr.html ...and Cowley broke the interest and the eventual deal.
  24. Just thought I'd get a jump on the game tonight. The Sox will be lucky to have 5 hits this evening. The good news? I'm sure Kotsay will dazzle us with a variety of grounders to second.
  25. His hair really knows where it wants to go. Dreamy.
