QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) I see no incentive to watch this game other than it being a White Sox game and at this point in the spring that's no longer doing it for me. But Pierre is playing. -

QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2010 -> 05:51 PM) I hope Lillibridge and Nix both suck tonight, and CJ comes in and goes 2-2. Yeah, I hope the same. Nix and Lillibridge are both garbage. CJ would bring so much more to the team, but he's gonna head down to Charlotte soon. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) At his age, this isnt that bad at all, he just misses about 6-9 months of development. Oh well. He'll be fine, but you'd think he lost his leg by the overreaction going on around here.
-
QUOTE (quickman @ Mar 13, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) so I get this is not good for the player, but he is easily two years away from playing in the majors, maybe three. so how does this effect this year again? I mean s*** happens, but lets not blow this thing out of proportion. There is some serious overreacting going on here. The kid's career is not over. He's tougher then most baseball players. He's a former LSU football player with off the charts athleticism. He's gonna have surgery and rehab and probably make it back for fall ball full strength. He was on a fast-track for sure with how well he was playing recently, but he's likely still on the 2-year MLB plan just as he was yesterday. He'll be patrolling CF at The Cell in a couple years.

QUOTE (Reddy @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 10:25 PM) what a big giant bucket of suck. ...thank you...?
-
QUOTE (knightni @ Mar 12, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) That thread title is a little overreactive, don't you think? He twisted his ankle, he didn't "Robin Ventura" himself. The guy has quite a few years before he even sniffs the majors. If by years you mean ONE I agree with you.

Looking for a breakout player for the Sox this season? Jared Mitchell is blowin up so far in camp for the Sox displaying tools that may just develop into a those of a MLB impact player. It's not just the numbers he's putting up but they way he's playing that's most impressive. He's not only got serious ability, but he's fearless and it's shows. Look for Mitchell to make his way to AA Birmingham this season and position himself for serious consideration next year in camp. I think Ozzie will continue to play him in the A games for another week or so and cut him late.

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Mar 5, 2010 -> 05:04 PM) Jon Link sighting. Morel with a nice swing, but flied out to LF. Dodgers win 8-3. Are these games archived anywhere for later viewing?

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) A-Gon is flattered Peavy wants him, but is 100% Padre. http://danny-knobler.blogs.cbssports.com/m...ntryListMiniCnt ...until he's traded in a few months. We've heard that line before from Jake himself.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 01:53 PM) Which is business-stupid for the sun times, in this case. Not the use of new media... but that their writer is making enemies, and the only "play" they are getting is his tweets, which don't supply any ad hits for the paper at all. If people were reading his articles and complaining, that would actually be good for the paper, potentially. Great point.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 01:25 PM) LOL, what a whiner. I can actually understand how journalists would feel a bit peaved (har) about the emergence of the internet rumor machine. A lot of garbage gets spewed out there, and right or wrong, it intrudes on their domain. The good journalists see that reality, and try to work within it as best they can. They even reach out to the people who may have sources that the writers do not. The lousy ones just b**** and moan, like some pathetic old man sitting at his local bar, going on about how hard the world is on them. Cowley's writing falls into the latter. Keep in mind too though, SoxNet is seen as a part of TribCo (since it sits on their site), the major competitor for Sun Times readership. So there is a professional rivalry there too. He uses new media (Twitter) to cry about it...

QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 12:26 PM) BREAKING NEWS: Peavy still wants A-Gone! Smell that? Smells like it's time for another three-team trade fairytale rumor to run with SoxNot. Joe Cowley's twitter Somebody explain to me why this pathetic excuse for a journalist believes pissing off a large group of fans of the team he covers for a living is a good idea. That is Cowley being a jagoff. That SoxNet story about the Sox and SD having discussions really drove him insane. Anybody that follows Kenny knows he's pursued Gonzalez this offseason. How much he's pursued him is the question, but obviously there is interest as evidenced by Peavy's comments. Kenny chases the best players until he can't. Cowley is acting the defensive prick because he attacked that story as total BS and now it's a national subject.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 1, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) ugh: Man, Cowley is one petty Mofo.

QUOTE (Kalapse @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 05:40 PM) Which is no where near a certainty, based on his past performance I'd say it's improbable. He's no Josh Fields of course...

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 05:38 PM) I said I was a fan of Chris Getz, not that Chris Getz is a better player. Something about having a who from Whoville excited me. Ha! that's hilarious. Never thought of him that way. So we had Lillibridge the Hobbit and Getz the who. Chris went to HS with a friend of mine in MI. He was known as "Chip" in High School. Anyway, just wanted to point out that Getz was, in fact pretty terrible at 2B. I liked the guy, as well but Beckham is already quite an upgrade for this season.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 25, 2010 -> 12:53 PM) Indeed. And how the heck is he invited to camp again? He is so awful. The Shire is close to Glendale and he's finished his chores.
-
QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 02:50 AM) I agree. I really disliked him when the trade happened because A) I was a chris Getz fan, but also because Teahen at 3rd meant no Chone Figgins or Beltre or Orlando Hudson (keeping Becks at 3B). But this guy has been funny on Twitter, so I am starting to be a real fan. Glass Getz was among the worst defensive 2B in all of baseball last season. Later, Chris. If fans can live with production like .270/16/62, average defense and excellent baserunning from Teahen, he's gonna be popular guy the next few years.

Garfien: Sox made serious play for Halladay

QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 07:04 PM) Well there's doubt just because if they really expended that much time on the Damon thing, it has to mean it was something they saw as the best option for now. After all, they wouldnt make that move if they had some sliver of hope expressed to them by SD's F.O., right? And the other problem is the already existing roster crunch. Not to say it cant be done and rearranged but I think it's a stretch to say there's zero reason to doubt. I think that Damon fell into their consideration, and fit the bill. SD can afford to ask for the system right now, but they'll lose leverage by July. In the past few weeks, Kenny has officially gone public with his desire for a lefty impact bat. I'm not saying the addition is imminent, I'm saying the Thome, Damon discussions...remove the pre-Soxfest concern that Kenny is gonna just accept the lack of a lefty impact bat on this roster. -BTW, he just said if Jermaine Dye was left handed he'd be in camp right now. -Ugh.... -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) I disagree. Flowers/Hudson/Jordan Danks could net a LOT of players in this league. Absolutely. Hudson was the 2009 MiLBY Starting Pitcher of the Year for godsakes! -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 06:11 PM) I think he is saying that there is a deal that will happen in the future that isn't apparent right now because the circumstances which will cause it to occur have not occurred yet themselves. There should be ZERO doubt that Kenny is gonna add a serious left-handed bat in the coming weeks. -

QUOTE (IamPabloOzuna @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 05:41 PM) http://www.csnchicago.com/pages/soxdrawer what might have been... Apparently, the Halliday trade was completed, but the extension was more than the Sox could handle. Again, this confirms that there is absolute interest in our prospects. see: San Diego in a few months...The Pads have an extensive knowledge of the Sox system now. -
QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 01:51 AM) You're missing the point. A player who hit 15 HRs 1 out of 5 seasons could be considered capable to hit 15 HRs, just as a player who hit 15 HRs 5 out of 5 seasons could also be considered capable. But the likelihood of each of them reaching the mark is notably different. I'm pointing out that several of your 8 average just at or below 15 HRs/season, which means capable is better translated to somewhat likely, but nothing to really count on I said Jones clearly has a powerful bat. And it's nice that you just blindly extrapolated his partial season stats from last year, but part of being able to do that means he needs to stay healthy. Which he hasn't been able to do the previous two seasons. His batting average is less than .220 over his last 1000 ABs. These are the red flags which do not inspire confidence, and are part of the reason we were able to sign Jones for basically the league minimum How did I "blindly extrapolate partial season stats"? The numbers I listed were full season production as it included every at-bat.

QUOTE (1977 sox fan @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 04:39 AM) twins lineup but not there batting order span 8 to 12 hrs cf hudson 12 to 15 2nd mauer 20 to 25 c morneiu 30 to 35 1st cuddeyer 25 to 30 rf kubel 25 to 30 lf dh ? hardy 15 to 20 ss young 12 to 15 lf dh ? thome 12 to 20 dh depending on abs tolbert 12 to 15 3rd ? i think he is playing 3rd well you may be right that they don't have 8 guys who will hit 15 hrs but possibly 10? but i dought that . but they do have 5 guys im sure will hit 20 to 30 and that the sox don't have. the twins im sure will hit 30 to 35 more hrs then the sox depending on injuries and how there new stadium plays . but for me i rather have there lineup over ours anyday and twice on sunday . A rotation of Punto/Harris is the 3B and they are NOT gonna hit 15Hrs together. Span has never hit more then 8 HRs in a full season. The Twins have more power potential in fewer guys, which means if one of those sluggers like Morneau gets injured (again) their power really falls off.
-
QUOTE (3E8 @ Feb 21, 2010 -> 12:55 AM) Number of hitters "capable" of hitting 15+ home runs is not a good way to measure team power. First, "capable" doesn't really provide a sense of likelihood. Several of the players you're including average under or just around the 15 HR mark. A team like the Twins may have a smaller group of guys who have hit 15 HRs at a point in their career, yet that group could still out-HR our larger group. These are also two teams who had below AL average power output last year. And the position traditionally reserved for the team bat with the most power, we have chosen to chalk in an inadequacy platoon. Kotsay is a singles-hitter who as a lefty could get the lion's share of DH ABs at this point. Jones clearly has a powerful bat and was no doubt one of the 8 hitters you're speaking of, but his recent performance doesn't inspire much confidence I'm confused.... You said "Capable doesn't provide a sense of likelihood?" But then went on tho say that several of those players have averaged close to 15HRs. It seems to me that the fact that you pointed out the players average 15 HRS would at the very least indicate a capability to do so...no? (AJ, Teahen, Beckham) The remaning few that don't avg 15hrs in the Sox lineup actually average more for their careers (PK, CQ, Alexei, Rios, Jones) So the fact that Jones hit 17 Hrs in 281 ABs doesn't inspire power confidence? That would be 34 Hrs for 562 at-bats. Jones hit 8 fewer HRs than Jermaine Dye last season in over 200 fewer ABs.
