  1. Also, funny enough, this would be the largest contract ever given out by the Sox.....and it's to a guy who has never played a major league game.
  2. I need someone smart from Fangraphs to let me know how much surplus value this gives the Sox if Eloy ends up being a solid guy. Meanwhile, I assume this means he makes the roster on Opening Day, right? Scott Kingery, I believe is the last player who signed a deal while he was a minor leaguer and he made the major league team out of ST.
  3. I would assume it means different teams offered a 3rd RD pick.
  4. I didn't buy it last year, so this is my year to do it.
  5. RHP Drey Jameson was in FG's list of college pitchers who are moving quickly up the boards right now. They still only have him listed as #91 on their board, so quite a bit lower than Jim Callis who said Jameson could be a late 1st or 2nd RD type. Maybe he's continuing to project his rise.
  6. Vaughn went 1/3, 2 BB, 0 K. Now hitting .426 with 7 HR, 20 BB, 7 K
  7. Are the Cowboys and Earl Thomas finally going to get married or what?
  8. I turned down free tickets to last night's game. My girlfriend had to work late, and even though I could have called off work myself, I didn't want to do it just to go alone. Whoops. But my brother ended up taking his daughter for her first ever Hawks game and she loved it. Apparently she was mascotting for the section and was giving high-fives all around for each goal.
  9. Must.....play.....Red Dead. It's been at least a month since I played, and with The Show coming out, I worry I'll never finish it.
  10. Not happy to see Sox fans out of a job but also..... Meh.
  11. The Phillies have posted signs at their team shop saying that they've run out of the letter "R".
  12. Just watched the replay. Man, Lambert looks solid. He was in or around the zone with everything. He didn't seem to have any crazy "stuff" but he was pumping strikes. I couldn't tell was his velo was because there was no gun, but if he's sitting 93-96, he has a chance to be a very reliable arm. It's funny, the Angels broadcast mentioned how consistent and solid he was throwing and said, "You know, he reminds me of a pitcher that used to pitch for the White Sox named...." and then I instantly said "Jon Garland", almost exactly as soon as their broadcaster evoked the same name. It also helps that I was timing Lambert between pitches and on pitches where the batter took the pitch, he was about 11 seconds between pitches. And even when the hitter had swung, he was about 13-15 seconds between pitches. It was very nice to see him work so fast.
  13. 4 yrs/$70M really translates to 3 yrs/$70M at BEST if we are actually ready to contend in 2020. Do you want to pay Kimbrel $23M a year? Or you can wait until next offseason when Dellin Betances and Cody Allen are available. Trevor Rosenthal might be there if his option doesn't vest. Plus, we also have a ton of really young relievers in our system, including Zack Burdi who was drafted for that very role. Really no reason to add what should be finishing touches this early in the building process, IMO.
  14. Cubs had someone out to watch one of his starts this season in which he threw 6 no-hit innings. They have picks #27 and #64.
  15. Ill give it a listen right now. EDIT: Said they have heard whispers of scouts who say Vaughn should be 1-1. Think there are no pitchers who are top 10 worthy right now. Think Adley is an outstanding defensive catcher, which is something I hadn't heard yet. They don't see the Orioles taking Vaughn, because Vaughn could be up in 2020, and would not fit their timeline for the rebuild. Said Bobby Witt has the highest ceiling in this draft. Thinks Abrams has less of a chance to stick at SS, may move to CF. Fastest risers are Misner and Stott. Could be top 10 guys. Don't think Misner can be a CF. Might have 70 raw power. Stott might not stick at SS, but should be above average 3B. Will likely be drafted and tried out at SS to see how he does with a bigger frame. Aren't sure what to think of Carter Stewart. Maybe mid-late 1st RD. Consistency is an issue, but stuff is great.
  16. I've decided that I am officially campaigning for RHP Drey Jameson to be our 2nd RD, 45th overall selection in June. Is it because he pitches for Ball State? 90% yes. The 10% is because he was mentioned on the MLB Pipeline podcast last night as a pitcher with serious helium right now. He is 6 foot, 165 pounds. Callis said that he throws upper 90s, has a very hard slider, and if the draft were today, he would go in the 1st or 2nd RD. Seems to be a bit herky-jerky in that delivery. Nice break on those sliders. Looks like he flipped in a slurve there too at some point. Control was a huge issue with him in 2018, but holy smokes he has 39 K's in 23 IP so far in 2019 with 6 BB.
  17. Vaughn was 0-2 with 2 walks tonight. At least one of those outs was a strikeout with the bases loaded. They will play a double header tomorrow.
  18. I was just kidding about the underhand toss, my point was that all it took was a routine throw to 2B once he looks over and see Garcia standing out there.
  19. He was flat footed. He was not charging in on the ball. All it took was the 2B saying "Hey, underhand toss me the ball here at 2B because this runner is stranded in no-mans-land". It's the same stuff that Javy Baez gets credited with, being wrecklessly aggressive and lucking out. EDIT: I went back and watched it. He was not flat-footed, but he did field the ball behind the 3B, with plenty of time to stop and turn to 2B. Doesn't really matter, he got away with it, but I didn't like the the broadcaster calling it great baserunning when it was not.
  20. Nicky, after taking a few steps, will now be carted of the field. Maybe a concussion, as he looks fine physically but seems very shaken.
  21. Delmonico might be hurt. He jumped in to the fence in LF to make a catch, dropped it because he sucks, but the gate opened as he hit it and he never got up. Inside the park HR.
  22. Moncada with a great eye, per usual, drawing a walk. Bases loaded for Abreu.
  23. Luery was 15 feet off the bag when the 3B had the ball. All he had to do was look to his left and Garcia would have been dead to rights.
