  1. QUOTE (thedoctor @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:32 PM) sale's been great. is the assumption that he'll start back in the minors next year at say, AA, to transition back into a starting role? I would assume he would get stretched out in ST, and then start the year in AA starting until a starter goes down.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:26 PM) The amazing thing about Pauly's season is that Hamilton has Vlad protecting him. Pauly has had Kotsay protecting him for a good chunk of the season. Which is why maybe Manny batting 5th will be extremely productive for Paulie. I think he has a shot to eclipse 40 HR, 125 RBI marks.
  3. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 03:12 PM) I'm tired of the Sox running themselves out of innings too. And I'm getting sooooooo tired of Carlos Quentin. I didn't have a chance to post after last night's game, but even though Q's two misplays didn't directly lead to any runs, how many extra stressful pitches did they cause Edwin to throw? Maybe Edwin throws a complete game if not for the extra outs and we save Jenks and help our bullpen. Could be very true. I didn't see how many extra pitches that caused Edwin, but maybe he finished a CG, 1 run performance.
  4. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:25 PM) Oh I don't know about that. It brings back memories when the organization thought Fields could play 3rd base. It goes to show when Kenny acquires a player, defense is the least of priorities. Yep. Andruw Jones, Omar Vizquel, Alex Rios, ect.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:51 PM) Great post. Danman with the call before it happened. I love those in the threads the last two nights who have given Paulie and AJ their props for actually being the ones, to you know, hit it out of the park. Great win, kudos to Paulie, Sale, Rios, etc. I'm not going to go overboard and credit Manny for Paulie's and AJ's homers. A lot of people thought AJ would hit into a DP and Paulie is simply an MVP candidate, baby! Go Soxxxx!! Keep winnin. That's because Manny is a bum.
  6. QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 01:30 PM) very excited to see Mitchell plans on being ready to play, sucks he lost a vast majority of this year, but hopefully he can get some decent work in and be ready in ST God it would be great if he tore up the AFL like Morel did last year, and then started off '11 in AA.
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:43 PM) BA's "hunnies" have already petitioned for an image on the CF wall immortalizing his catch to end Game 163. You mean....this game?.... When some guy hit this ball on to the Fan Deck?..... And then BA made that awesome catch which resulted in this?..... :headbang
  8. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) I've looked at the stats and I know Paulie won't get MVP. I just have a hard time imagining Josh Hamilton having as many clutch hits or carrying the team the way Konerko does. I feel like he is numbers without substance. Cabrera on the other hand I can see. Well, I do agree that Hamilton has a better cast around around him offensively. Vlad Guerrero is having a monster season (.300 AVG, 25 HR, 100 RBI already), and it doesn't hurt to have one of the best 2B in baseball on your team either. Paulie has been more valuable to us, sure, but I don't think the voters will weigh that as much as we would like. If anything, Paulie's valuableness to this team is washed out by Hamilton's "rags to riches" story.
  9. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) Here's the list of guys currently on statues: Frank Thomas will have his there next year. Paul Konerko has been on this team for 11+ years now. He keyed a world series run and was the ALCS MVP that year, He's basically 2nd on the White Sox career offensive production list right now (HR, RBI) behind the Hurt, he produced more than several of the guys with statues already. His statue is assured. I didn't say I agreed with our current set of statues either. I just think Paulie is really on the fence IMO.
  10. QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:23 PM) I don't watch the Rangers and I know the numbers, but I still have a hard time believing that Josh Hamilton is really having a better year than Konerko. Konerko has been everything for this team. Look at the numbers, Hamilton's are pretty gaudy, and Hamilton plays on a first place team. The ONLY shot Paulie has is if Hamilton slumps his AVG down around .330, and the Sox win the division. Those two happening are pretty unlikely.
  11. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:19 PM) Are we talking about the same guy? Do you disagree with my point?
  12. QUOTE (T R U @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:15 PM) his batting avg is only what, 20 points higher than Konerkos? that's not that big of a difference if you are considering Hamiltons to be ridiculous.. Anyways, that's why I said a shot at it if he finishes strong which would require him to prolly hit 40 HRs, drive in 125+ and keep that avg in the .320 range.. and of course, we make the playoffs.. either way, hes having a pretty damn good year that I think is going unnoticed by most everyone who isnt a part of this board.. Try 42 points higher. Hamilton is batting .361. That's pretty ridiculous.
  13. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:13 PM) Looking down the road, is it a forgone conclusion that we'll see a picture of Paulie on the wall with a statue of his on the concourse? That's a really tough question actually. Not sure I would unless he has another 2-3 years with us. He has been extremely steady, but never had a massive year in his career other than this year really. His 2006 was very good, but nothing spectacular.
  14. QUOTE (Brian @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:10 PM) Are Hamilton's numbers THAT much better than Konerko's? I honestly don't know. Not really. But his batting AVG is so ridiculous and the fact that he plays CF will help his case. I would say Paulie has a good shot at finishing 2nd or 3rd. Unfortunately, that doesn't get you anything but a massive contract from a team like the Red Sox.
  15. In what may be the worst looking sweep I remember in a long time, the bottom line is 3 wins and 0 losses. NOW LET'S GO TIGERS! DON'T s*** THE BED AGAIN TONIGHT!
  16. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 12:54 PM) I remember him saying how Vizquel was not the reason that alexei improved so I guess I doubt that Vizquel was really brought in for that. Yeah, he gave all the credit to Joey Cora, who is, non-coincidentally, a candidate for every open managerial spot. Ozzie just helping out his buddy Joey Cora.
  17. Really, Manny Ramirez at 10% in that Comcast poll? I would rank them as.... 1) Jake Peavy 2) Manny Ramirez 3) Ken Griffey 4) Jim Thome
  18. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 10:12 PM) What if Pierre doesn't get doubled off, what if Q, AJ, PK or Rios knock in a RISP? The only "what if" game you can play is "what if we had a pitcher in the bullpen capable of an out". A 3 f***ing run lead in the 9th against one of the worst teams in baseball should be enough, Manny or no Manny *facepalm*.....nevermind.
  19. Morel says "September call-up? Nah, I'm good dominating here in Charlotte" 3/5 with a 2B, his 24th double in just 80 games in AAA.
  20. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 09:44 PM) Was Manny coming in for relief or....? If we lost this game it was because we don't have a single pitcher in the pen who can get an out. I am saying someone could argue that if Manny was playing over Kotsay, that we may have scored more than 4 runs, and then we would have won the game. Not saying it is the right excuse, just saying that someone would mention it. But because we won, Ozzie won't have to hear anyone say "Well, if you started Manny, you could have scored more runs".
  21. Ozzie is lucky we won this game. Because now we are 1-0 without Manny even getting an AB. If we had lost this game, anyone could have made a case that Manny would have helped us get a win. But now that we won, Ozzie saves himself from LOTS of ridicule.
  22. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) he looked pretty dominant so far.....give me whatever your havin all that matters to me is he's getting the job done better than anyone else on our staff and it's at the right time of the year QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:13 PM) his ERA + was very good for the Cubs, but it topped at like 130, 30% better than an average pitcher, Edwin coming into tonight with 4 starts was 454, 354% better than an average pitcher... comparing apples to oranges... not sure if this was meant to be in green, but who cares, I wanted to post how freaky EJax has been, even before tonight! QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 31, 2010 -> 08:14 PM) I think Jackson has been the definition of dominant with us. His FIP is at 2.29 since joining the Sox. That's 1.4 WAR. 1.4 WAR over 5 starts, stretch that out over 30. You're talking 09 Zack Greinke. My comment was in reference to the game thread last night where someone said something like "We have no dominant starters" and I said "Edwin Jackson and his POTY award say otherwise". Then 4 or 5 people starting commenting saying how bad he was in AZ, and how Carlos Silva started 8-0 for the Cubs, and other things disputing Edwin jackson being dominant for us.
  23. Just remember guys.....Edwin Jackson isn't dominant. Afterall, Carlos Silva had a good month or two for the Cubs....
  24. Damn, Edwin just gets stronger as the game goes on. Popping it at 99. If pitch count wasn't such a bulls*** made-up thing, and 100 was the nice neat number to use, I would use Edwin in the 9th too, but I am sure he is around like 110 pitches or so.
