  1. ESPN Gamecast is showing that the 2nd pitch to Luke Scott was not even close to being a ball, but was called one....
  2. I am pretty surprised MLBTR has not picked up on that. Hoffman is pretty big name.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 05:11 PM) If he's hit that many significant bombs, then Jones is a moron for not at least making better contact sometimes to have his average be .250. At the least he could have had all of Kotsay's at bats throughout the year. He should have had at least most. Kotsay has been a bucket of suck.
  4. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:35 PM) It might be boring and take a long time, but it'd be neat to see when he hit each of his home runs and did they contribute to a victory? No, I'm not looking it up. 4/12 vs. Blue Jays. 2-run HR in 2nd inning. Score was 0-0. Solo HR in 6th inning. Score was 6-4 Jays. 4/14 vs. Blue Jays. Solo HR in 2nd inning. Score was 0-0. 4/20 vs. Rays. Solo HR in 6th inning. Score was 2-1 Sox. 4/23 vs. Mariners. Solo HR in 1st inning. Score was 0-0. Solo HR in 9th inning. Score was 6-6 tie. Walk-off HR. 5/1 vs. Yankees. Solo HR in 1st inning. Score was 0-0. Solo HR in 3rd inning. Score was 2-0 Sox. 5/5 vs. Royals. 2-run HR in 1st inning. Score was 0-0. 6/3 vs. Rangers. Solo HR in 2nd inning. Score was 0-0. 7/6 vs. Angels. Solo HR in 7th inning. Score was 2-1 Sox. 7/11 vs. Royals. 3-run HR in 3rd inning. Score was 4-1 Sox. 7/19 vs. Mariners. Solo HR in 8th inning. Score was 4-1 Sox. 7/27 vs. Mariners. 3-run HR in 5th inning. Score was 8-0 Sox. 7/31 vs. A's. 2-run HR in 7th inning. Score was 4-0 A's. 8/15 vs. Tigers. Solo HR in 8th inning. Score was 9-7 Tigers. 8/18 vs. Twins. 3-run HR in 2nd inning. Score was 2-0 Twins. There you go. 11 of his 17 HR were when the Sox were tied or losing. 8 of those 17 HR put the Sox into the lead. So, we are talking nearly half his HR have been extremely meaningful HRs.
  5. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:16 PM) In the Sox situation, they have probably already ran their players through waivers to be ready to make deals I wish once a player cleared waivers, it became public knowledge. I know they let us know about well known players, but I wish I could see a comprehensive list of all players who have cleared waivers.
  6. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) If Andruw Jones is worth 3.8 million this season, I feel sorry for all those great ballplayers of the past who were lucky to make that in 10 years. My god, the inflated salaries. I woudn't be against Kotsay giving Jones some of his money to make up the difference. I hate Kotsay more than I do Jones. I still say neither should be on the team if you are trying to win anything significant, like a division. I agree, these players make insanely too much money, but I digress.... Who would be a better option on our bench then Andruw Jones? Because, as I said, Andruw is giving us a lot of production off the bench, regardless of batting average. If he was hitting .280, but with 8 HR, would you be more inclined to think more highly of him? Because despite his awful batting average, he is supplying a lot of runs via power numbers.
  7. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 03:00 PM) Can they be traded if they cleared waivers though or does that not matter? I'm sure that no one claimed either guy. Yes, that is the only way a player on the 40-man can be traded, if he clears waivers, which both probably would.
  8. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) I know that last line is a joke but thats not possible since they are on the 40 man roster. Well, technically they can be a PTBNL, but maybe only Linebrink since he is signed through '11 and Kotsay is not.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 26, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) Is responding to your thread good discussion? OK, KW could kick my ass unless I had a bat or something, then I'd get arrested if I fought him with that, so I wouldn't. I still say it was stupid to acquire Jones. He stunk in Texas and isn't doing much of anything here but making outs. According to Fangraphs, this is Andruw's best offensive season since 2006. He has been worth $3.8M this season, and yet we are only playing him $0.5M. Conversely, Mark Kotsay is having his worst offensive season since 2007. He has been worth -$2.9M this season, and yet we are paying him $1.5M. Jones is playing $3.3M ABOVE his contract, and Kotsay is playing $4.4M UNDER his contract. That's a difference of $7.7M between the two. Pretty damn obvious that acquiring Andruw Jones was actually a very solid move for $500K. He is not good enough to be our full time DH, but he is a fantastic option off the bench.
  10. EJax is pitching tonight? Isn't he still sore from his 7 pitch outing last weekend?
  11. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 05:56 PM) Then Monday on WGN again @ Cleveland - a rare three days in a row for us out-of-towners. Sweet. Awesome. After having to settle for Reds games (my roommates only sports team he likes), it will be nice to see a Sox game!
  12. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 10:59 PM) Would Short or Escobar be an overpay? I would be ok with that.
  13. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 11:44 PM) i would, but i think this is a pretty good indicator we need manny I just don't understand that logic at all. I would take Andruw 100 times out of 100. I agree we need Manny, and Andruw is terrible right now, but you can't ignore how useless Kotsay is, even compared to Jones.
  14. QUOTE (SleepyWhiteSox @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) 0 cares lolwut?
  15. QUOTE (BearingPro @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 10:31 PM) Why is Jones on the WS roster with a pathetic .207 BA and no sign of trying to get better...unless you consider swinging from the heels an honest effort to improve. The WS need clutch hits desperately and Jones' approach at the plate will produce very few. Are you saying you would rather have Mark Kotsay over Andruw Jones?
  16. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 10:54 PM) I just hope Morel isn't going to the Dodgers in return if it happens. I'm afraid of an overpay. Oh man, that would be my nightmare!
  17. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 08:51 PM) What logic did they use in getting McCulloch in the first round? Cool name I think.
  18. Welp, let's hope Kirkman and the Rangers 'pen can hold off the Twins.
  19. Young dominates tonight. 6 IP, 0 ER, 0 BB, 8 K Nick Ciolli went 3/5 with a HR and 7 RBI. Wow. Thompson went 0/2, but had 3 BB. Morel went 3/5 with a 3B. AVG up to .324. Damn it feels good to be a gangster.
  20. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 08:25 PM) lol. He's just not good anymore. Hasn't been since 2005. Yeah, he was a real suckfest in April.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 07:42 PM) Hell of a prediction, only issue would be that there's no outfield spots open unless Quentin is traded or gets moved to DH. I would say that even if we don't get Manny now, it wouldn't shock me if he's our DH next year. He sure as s*** better be our DH next season. If Quentin is not our DH, then he better be on a different team. I've been crossing my fingers that we would have enough money to get Carl Crawford to take Quentin's spot in the OF, but at this point, I'd take Beltran or someone who plays solid D out there and has an above average stick.
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 07:29 PM) I'd say Texas won that trade. Yeah, but it was a pretty good trade for both teams really.
  23. J. Hamilton with a 2-run HR! Wooo! Texas leads 2-0, bottom 1st.
