  1. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 03:31 PM) Luckily Buehrle is going to tonight. I hate missing Tosh.0. God, I have missed the past 2 weeks. I hate my damn roommate. He will have to deal w/ me watching comedy central, even though all he likes is the news and "I love Lucy"
  2. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 05:43 PM) but it wouldn't get to the twins if the sox put a claim on him, right? it's reverse standings, first NL then AL, if i'm not mistaken. I assume you mean, the option to claim him wouldn't get to the Twins? Actually, I believe that all teams get to make their decision on a player, and then they sort through who made a claim, and pick the team that is highest on the claim pole. So, the Twins can make a claim, they just won't win that claim if an NL team or an AL team w/ a worse record makes a claim as well.
  3. Please don't teach them all the stupid abbreviated expressions that people use. Like.... tl;dr (too long, didn't read) orly (oh, really?) lolwut (haha, what?) 0 cares (I don't think anyone cares) ldo (like duh, obviously) I can't stand when people say s*** like this on forums. Doesn't happen in this forum, thank god, but in another sports forum I participate in they use this all the time and it's really uneducated sounding.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 06:32 PM) They can agree to a deal, but just can't actually make it until the Sox are awarded the claim. Hmm, interesting.
  5. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 06:21 PM) Its 49 hours until a claim is awarded. You don't have to check no, so if something happens in the next day or so where you may want to put a claim in, you can. So how could anyone report "Sox are close to deal with Dodgers", if they can't even be awarded the claim until Friday? Unless he was actually placed on waivers on Monday, and no one noticed?
  6. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 06:26 PM) so who goes away to make room for Manram? Kotsay? Lilli? I predict Andruw Jones, which would disappoint given his defensive skills late in the game. I think everyone is crossing their fingers for a Kotsay DFA, but Ozzie loves that sack of crap too much.
  7. Another quick question about waivers. Do they wait until the 48 hours are over to award the claim, or just until all teams have submitted a response? I would think a team like the Twins would wait until the last second to make their decision so the Sox have to wait longer to get Manny into the line-up. I find it hard to believe he was placed on waivers today, and the Sox have already been awarded the claim.
  8. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 25, 2010 -> 11:07 AM) KW is not afraid.....to take a stand.... Everybody, come take my hand. We'll watch the Sox together, through the storm, whatever streak, cold or warm.
  9. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 09:28 PM) I'm more concerned with his lack of enthusiasm about a promotion. Well, it's only a promotion for 1 game, so it's really not a big deal anyway. And if he is burnt out in the arm and thought he only had to push through 1 more start, then I can understand him being bummed that he has to pitch in 1 extra game.
  10. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:41 PM) Forgot about him. Hope nobody bought a Daniel Hudson jersey. I guess if I were the type to buy a jersey at my age, it would be either Viciedo or Alexei Ramirez. Of course, I bought a Sammy Sosa road jersey after his rookie year, that didn't work out so well. I probably would have this offseason had he still been on the team. Then again, I have a jersey hook-up, so I tend to just buy jerseys at will (Hence my Andruw Jones and Paul Konerk All-Star jerseys)
  11. QUOTE (joejoedairy @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 08:12 PM) linedrive to center Sexy. I hate those cheap towering fly ball HRs.
  12. Was it a high towering, drifting shot, or a bomb? Or a linedrive I guess?
  13. Wilkins is 1/1 with a 2B, BB, and SB so far. Phegley went 3/4 with a 2B. He is really coming on strong since the injury. AVG up to .321 Morel went 1/4 with a 2B.
  14. Arroyo with another dominating start. 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 7 K. Now 77 K and 11 BB in 69 innings. Very nice WHIP too of 0.89.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 07:44 PM) Hard to compare how the Manny-mania would be, as the Griffey playing time came when fans still cared cause we were in the heart of the pennant race. I believe we need to be no worse than 4 games out when we acquire Manny for it to have any substantial impact on our attendance. I disagree. I think Manny will sell us tickets regardless. I know I would definitely like to go to a game to see him, and I don't even like the guy.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 03:41 PM) 36 year old, .791 OPS this year, decreasing about .0.25 points per year for the last couple, owed another $10 million next year? I think we can do better than a .775ish OPS from a 37 year old with $10 million. Yeah, Jermaine Dye.
  17. QUOTE (JPN366 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) I predict that Ramirez will be hitting bombs in Hiroshima next year. Too soon.
  18. cst_sox Oz was asked if he would want Manny - "I don't know. But I will have to say yes because Kenny will get him anyway." Well, it's nice to know that Ozzie doesn't want Manny and will probably have him platoon DH with Kotsay....
  19. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 04:11 PM) Acquiring Ramirez isn't just claiming him. Once Manny is claimed, there still must be a deal worked out. Considering Ramirez will be a Type A free agent who will probably get at least a two-year deal somewhere if he decides to play next season, the Dodgers would likely offer him arbitration (unless the risk of him accepting the offer is one the club is simply unwilling to take) and recoup a supplemental first-round pick plus either a first- or second-round pick if he were to sign elsewhere. They'll expect a trade offer that beats the promise of two first-round picks, and won't trade him if they can't get it. Do you really think they would offer him arbitration?
  20. Thompson went 2/4 with a double.
  21. QUOTE (chw42 @ Aug 24, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Hawpe would be a good pick up for us for the minimum. He can't field at all (Adam Dunn kind of bad), but he should be able to hit a lot better than Mark Kotsay. I would think Kenny would tell Hawpe that we would make him an offer if we don't get Manny first.
  22. As I said back in July..... I will welcome having Manny bat on this team, but I can't say I have ever been a fan of the guy personally. I think he represent everything bad about baseball. Steroids, laziness, being a clown, selfish, ect. However, I can't deny his skills and I can't help but overlook his personality if it means we can make a push for the playoffs, in addition to the tickets and jersey sales he will create. I feel the same well I felt when the Cowboys got Terrell Owens. Hated the player, but couldn't deny the skills.
  23. Yeah....I work part-time at Chilis. I have no idea what overtime is.....
