QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 06:00 PM) Marquez was recalled, not Hudson. Does this suggest a greater likelihood of Hudson being involved in a trade? I think it just may. No, he is just covering for Pena being unavailable this weekend. I mean, sure maybe it was a "Let's call up Marquez, so incase we trade Hudson, we will, or we will just bring Hudson up Sunday and let Marquez cover for Pena this weekend"

Votto and Nick "Asshole" Swisher won.

Sometimes you have to overpay to keep players away from rivals.

QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 04:25 PM) Voting closed, when do we find out? Like 5 pm I think. Paulie has no chance.

FWIW, Gavin Floyd was the last Sox starter to allow an earned run. -
QUOTE (danman31 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:19 PM) He's already made his 2nd appearance. He debuted on the 2nd, he pitched again on the 5th. Oh, I clearly missed his 2nd appearance.

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) not to mention Pena coming in for an emergency "start" and only allowing one run... I really think Pena might be a starter for the long term, he seems to let his stuff work more when he knows he's out there for awhile instead of trying to ace every pitch in relief I heard on 670 that Pena actually walked up to the park yesterday with Ozzie and told him is willing to start this Sunday. Ozzie told him thanks for the offer, but I want to keep the bullpen roles the same. -

Sox starters over last 5 games..... 30 2/3 IP, 18 H, 4 ER, 5 BB, 19 K, 0.91 ERA, 0.75 WHIP, 3.80 K/BB Sox are 5-0 over that stretch. -

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 03:01 PM) Go Orioles. Can you at least win one in Detroit? Please? Nope, that series is over. -
Anyone know where I can find these Sox commercials? I know it's stupid, but I live in Schererville, and every time I hear the commercial start "An office manager in Schererville", I whip my head over to the TV. I wanted to share this video, but I can't find it. All I can find is the older ones from the winter.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) Reeling: verb To not be "Hot Fire" I've always thought of it as doing really well. I must be wrong, but for whatever reason, that's how I have always heard it used.

QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) Milwaukee has been reeling lately. Wonder if talks regarding Fielder have increased. Your definition of "reeling" confuses me.

The silver lining about Hudson/2nd half schedule...

Wrong thread. I'm embarassed. -
QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) I think its annoying to everyone because of how stupid a nickname it is That's sad. I just hope for your sake you get over it, or may as well just block me because I am going to continue to call him Hot Fire!

QUOTE (GoodAsGould @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:17 PM) I almost want to block you because of your sig mentioning it and you constantly calling Viciedo HoT FiRe Sucks to be you if that actually bothers you.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 02:04 PM) It wouldn't matter if the interim GM or the homeless guy on the street said it, Dan Haren is going to cost a lot to acquire, and that's not an opinion. There is a huge demand for quality starting pitching in the league, and, whether you'd like to admit it or not, a 4.38 ERA is a quality starting pitcher, even at $12.5 mill, considering the success he's had in the past and that much of that inflated ERA was largely due to the first 2 months of the season (when he gave up 16 homers in 74 innings). In his last 7 starts, he's put up a 2.92 ERA and allowed only 3 home runs in 49.1 IP. So which is it, do you think he is a quality starting pitcher who is having a lot of success recently or do you think is is someone who is pitching like s***, leaving his pitches up, and lost velocity? Because earlier in the thread you said this..... So we shouldn't get him because he is too good and will cost a lot, or because he is too bad and will cost a lot? Which side of the fence are you on?

What are you doing Steve Stone! Don't mention his "almost" perfection!!

Good job Andruw, way to take the walk!

QUOTE (MattZakrowski @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:27 PM) On a serious note, I'm really excited for Hudson, not that I'm happy about the circumstances. Agreed.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 8, 2010 -> 01:39 PM) https://twitter.com/BNightengale/status/18009235969 "Plenty of scouts on hand in Arizona. D-backs are listening to all offers, but Dan Haren likely to stay unless AZ blown away by offer." And I would argue he's every bit as good as Lee, and even if he's not, he's going to cost more to acquire than Lee simply because he's locked up for another 3 years beyond this at very reasonable prices (something like $12.5 mill this year and next year, and a $15.5 mill team option for 2012). Dan Haren is going to be ridiculously expensive. They'd have to give up a ton, and it's just not worth it, considering the needs of the offense opposed to the needs of the pitching staff. Bob Nightengale said that? Oh damn, I guess I don't want Haren then. My opinion sucks.
