  1. The original plan was for him to get TJS at some point this summer anyway, so this only stings a bit because his prognosis was upgraded to allow for no surgery. So if anything, this is just reverting back to what we thought coming out of ST.
  2. I think Carlos Santana is a good comp for Collins. Lifetime .247 hitter, but .365 OBP. Good for 15.4% walk rate with about 25 dingers a year. The skillset where Collins will lag behind is strikeout rate because Santana only has a career 16.7% K-rate. Collins could be closer to 30%. But that still gets you a 2.5 to 3 WAR guy assuming Collins doesn't catch at all, or only a couple times a week.
  3. Collins - 1/2, 3 BB ?? But perhaps even more impressive, he stole his 5th base this season. I'm shocked he was even up to two bases, let alone 5.
  4. 1 kid per effort with the sub. Some parts of the cave are very narrow, so it has to be small. And it can't be too heavy because 2 divers have to maneuver it.
  5. Yeah, fuck that billionaire for putting his time and resources in to saving children in a foreign country when he has many bigger fish to fry with his own companies.....?? What a jerk.
  6. I've been following this story, as it fascinates and terrifies me. Elon Musk and his SpaceX team have created a mini-submarine for these kids to be transported in. Should be in Thailand tomorrow for use if needed.
  7. I'm currently watching Kopech's start to see how much he really did get squeezed in this 1st inning. ** 2-2 fastball to the 2nd hitter of the game was VERY close. The camera is slightly off-set, so I can't see exactly if it was over the plate, but the Garneau didn't move his glove much and Kopech started to walk off the mound. Announcers think if it wasn't a strike, MAYBE it was a touch low. ** 3-2 fastball to the same hitter, 2 pitches later. Definitely over the plate, but apparently slightly low again. Kopech visually annoyed that it wasn't called. The batter didn't know what the count even was and had to be told to go to 1st. Announcers surprised he didn't get either of those calls, both borderline but maybe slightly low. ** 0-0 fastball to the next hitter after the walk. Looked to be the exact same location as the 1st pitch I highlighted, if not actually a touch higher as Garneau didn't move his glove whatsoever. Batter also checked his swing on it, but Kopech got neither call in his favor. Announcers again point it out. "Boy, not a good start to this game for the umpiring crew". Announcers insisting he went around. Hard to tell from front-angle. ** 3-2 fastball to the same hitter as above. This was the most egregious of the 4 calls so far. This was over the plate and right above the knees. The runner was taking off from 1st and Garneau attempted the throw because he must have through the pitch was close enough to be called a strike. Maybe the umpire was shielded or distracted by that, but this one was bad. The announcer retorts, "Ball 4, you've got to be kidding me". Kopech gets the ball back from the infield by catching it with his bare band. Mound visit as the pitching coach comes out yelling at the ump. One of the infielders (Rondon maybe) has to hold Kopech back from getting ejected for barking at the ump. Kopech was definitely upset. ____END OF 1st ** 1-2 fastball with 1 out in the 2nd. Pitch may have been a touch inside, but again it's hard to see with this angle. Kopech and the announcer wanted that one. ____END OF 2nd !!! Not Kopech related, but holy shit Alvarez made a sick diving play up the middle with 1 out in the 3rd. He wasn't able to get the runner, but it was an awesome effort. !!! ** The wild pitch by Kopech was wild, but a play that any above-average major league catcher blocks. Garneau tried to scoop up a slider/curveball inside to a lefty, instead of a backhand or just smothering it. I wouldn't hang that all on Kopech. ** 2-1 pitch to Velasquez with 1 out. Called a strike, but it was in the EXACT SAME location as 3 of those pitches from the first inning. Kopech "missed" at the exact same spot multiple times in the 1st, yet this pitch was a carbon copy of those and this time it was called a strike. ** 0-2 fastball to Hazelbaker. Clearly over the plate, but just as low as the ones from the 1st inning. Called strike 3. In conclusion; after having watched every pitch of his start tonight, I'm not concerned at all. He was commanding his fastball as well as you can reasonably expect. He threw some beautiful change-ups, especially in the 1st inning. He had troubles throwing any sliders or curves. Got a few over, but held my breath as the fell in high. His HBP was on a slider that he completely yanked in to a lefty. The HR he allowed was on a 98 MPH fastball just below the knees. Not even a strike, but the velo likely worked against him. He rarely missed up, and usually any time his fastball was elevated, it was swung through. Garneau was calling almost exclusively for fastballs low/away to RHB, and low/inside to LHB. Kopech was hitting those spots pretty well, just obviously had 4 or 5 of them not called in his favor.
  8. Del Castillo "Strong prototypical catcher's build. 7.11 runner, has a very good arm behind the plate and makes accurate on line throws, good athletic looseness to his defensive actions, 1.86 best pop time. Left handed hitter, uses his hands very well in his swing, creates bat speed and has some barrel whip, quick hands, ball comes off the barrel hard and has some lift on his pitch. Interesting left handed hitting catcher with some pop."
  9. Jim Callis just tweeted out that Martin was only $5K overslot.
  10. The Sox are on pace to lose 106 games and be NO WHERE CLOSE to a top 2 pick. Royals and Orioles both on pace to lose 115+. That's shocking and sad.
  11. Sean Williams‏ @SeanW1754 25m25 minutes ago More Nick Madrigal just made an incredible diving play to get a force out at second-base. Wow. He apparently glove flipped it from his chest to 2B for the out. That's pretty sexy considering that's never a play he would have likely ever made playing 2B.
  12. Charlotte reached about 11,000 tonight, their highest of the season. Our minor league teams are having nearly as many as our major league club some nights.
  13. I haven't played any of those, but the Uncharted series is something I might jump in to at some point. Yeah, racing games always look awesome, but those games always reek havoc on my eyes for whatever reason. It's hard for me to play those in any substantial chunks.
  14. Has anyone made trite references to his fragility yet? If not, insert one here.
  15. Right, but if we are to believe he was going to come here and then decided to go some where else, it better be money reasons, something the Sox can't control.
  16. It damn well better be because he's being offered more elsewhere, and not just that he doesn't want to be here.
  17. I've only ever seen him slide feet first, unless you mean he is jamming his thumb when he puts his hand down to balance his feet-first slide.
  18. Fun Fact: Jesus Jr. has now gone 3 weeks without a "strikeout-less" game. 24 K's over his last 15 games. Although he does have 4 XBH over those 15 games, so he's at least selling out for power.
  19. I still wouldn't characterize his time in AA as "not starting".
  20. Huh? He has started in every appearance except his last one, in which he had 11 days off between it. May have just been a rest thing, or part of the juggling act of promotions.
