Meh. He gets on base at a decent rate, but I don't know if I would want to have him for $7M a year. If Toronto throws in a few mil, I would, but I would rather have Dye at $4M than Overbay at $7 (even though Dye is not a lefty).

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Feb 24, 2010 -> 12:50 AM) :lolhitting For a guy who has not played a single game for us, Teahen is quickly becomming one of my favorite sox players already. I agree. I really disliked him when the trade happened because A) I was a chris Getz fan, but also because Teahen at 3rd meant no Chone Figgins or Beltre or Orlando Hudson (keeping Becks at 3B). But this guy has been funny on Twitter, so I am starting to be a real fan. -

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:51 PM) I enjoy SouthSideSox, but they need more content and analysis. The articles produced by SSS pale in comparison to what Athletics Nation, LonestarBall, and Lookout Landing provide for their team on a consistent basis. They're often quality, but i don't think they come out consistently enough to inspire any sort of deep discussion. Their comments sections nearly always devolve into unmoderated ramblings, thus making whatever discussion an article could have provided null and the members make no use out of the excellent fanshots service the site provides. And no we were referring to a certain other message board that rhymes with WSI. The whole comment section is always full of inside jokes and the same recycled opinions repeated over and over. There are rarely intelligent conversations that don't include "you OPOS" or "The Twins have already won the division". Like I said, I still visit the site to read for Sox news and often during the season there for game recaps, but the discussions there make the Youtube comment sections look like scholars. -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 10:45 PM) Same. I would never actually post a personal twitter update, and I don't bother telling any friends I have it, but I have a twitter just to follow what sports writers and players and teams are saying. It's VERY useful in that regard. I will still make fun of the people who think they are important and have a twitter in which they constantly post updates on their mundane lives though. Yeah, I have never "updated" my twitter, and no one else knows I have one. I have Facebook for keeping in touch with friends, not twitter. -

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) I always like to do an advanced google search on that board for threads a year old or so. They are funny because it seems half the posts are by people who have banned next to their status. Being a moderator there must be a full time job just banning people . What site are you referring to? I was banned from SouthSideSox for like 2 1/2 years for saying I hoped Boone Logan dies. Remember that one game where he had like 3 throwing errors in the inning? I said something to the effect of "I hope Boone Logan dies!" and I got banned. I was unbanned before the 2009 season when SB nation changed their site and everyone became unbanned. Then they banned me AGAIN for having "My president is white" in my status. It was a mock of the rap song that goes "My president is black, my lambo is blue, ..ect" and a play on the fact that Obama is half black and half white. They took that as somehow making me racist, even though I support Obama, and banned me for life with the nice little message "I gave you the opportunity to prove you weren't a Giant Douche. You failed." That site is informative, but god damn do they suck up to the "almighty" Cheat. And a bunch of uptight people too that can't handle a little satire signature. If China has a website equivalent, it would be southsidesox.com lol. -

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 09:18 PM) you know, i may actually create a twitter account for this. i can feel my moral stand disintegrating.......... I created a Twitter for the sole purpose of following baseball writers and reporters. I follow Rosenthal, Ozzie, Garfien, Reifert, Cowley, Mark Teahen, and a couple other writers just to get spring training and transaction updates. -

QUOTE (greg775 @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) Interesting they keep trying to get stud starters, but like some have said, what's the aversion to improving the lineup? I guess KW and Oz can say "I told you so" if and when Omar, Rios, Pierre, Kotsay and Jones excel this year. I don't read they almost got Halladay as "They didn't try to get a hitter". All it means it what is says, we almost got Halladay. KW could have been in talks to get Carl Crawford too, but that's not as big as a headliner as Halladay, and maybe we didn't hear about a possible Crawford deal like we did the Halladay deal. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) ok fair enough, but say a few of his 34 doubles turn into homers. That doesn't leave you with 25 hr and 30+ doubles like suggested above - because if you LOSE the doubles, say 6, and they become homers, so you've got 21 or so, you're now at 21 homers and 28 doubles. Sure that's good, but 25/30+ is not going to happen I was just referring to the HR total. -

QUOTE (Reddy @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 12:13 AM) why exactly would he suddenly jump from 15 hr a year to 25 because he's on our team? I mean i like the guy, but lets temper our optimism and not name him to the all-star team quite yet. His HR numbers SHOULD increase due to ballpark, and the fact he hits a lot of doubles, so 25 might be a possibility, but I see that more as a max than a likelyhood. I think 18-21 is a pretty accurate number. -

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 23, 2010 -> 12:28 AM) Ultimately, I'm very happy Williams struck out on Halladay. The addition of Roy Halladay to this pitching staff would have been phenomenal, but I would much rather see those resources go towards a hitter. At the end of the day, Roy Halladay is only going to affect about 33 games during the season and he'll probably have about 26 quality starts (78.8%). A combination of Freddy Garcia, Dan Hudson, and whoever else will make up for about 32 starts as well. I'd say, odds are, that combination will combine for somewhere between 18-22 quality starts (56.3-68.8%). Is adding anywhere from 4-8 quality starts throughout the duration of the season worth giving up a huge package of prospects? Halladay would have made the Sox a better team, but his addition doesn't put the Sox over the top. I don't think that's a fair way at looking at it because quality start =/= quality start. A quality start for Halladay is more likely to be 8 innings, 2-3 runs, while a quality start for Garcia/Hudson is more likely to be 7 IP, 3-4 runs. Just like two pitchers may have the same win totals does not mean their wins were valued the same. -

It makes me think if we had a deal lined up for Halladay, if we could then have a deal lined up for Adrian Gonzalez too. I doubt he would cost more than Halladay. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:20 PM) I don't go with the prospect lists, considering most of their tops end up busting. Wasn't Jay Bruce supposed to be an MVP by now? Or David Price being one of the best young pitchers in the game? All that matters was what Toronto thought of our prospects, and for all we know, it could have been highly. Regardless of whether they pan out or not, they still all hold value while they are top prospects. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) Is James Cameron a White Sox fan, lol? Maybe he would be willing to give Johnny Damon an extra $1-2 million. I always thought about that. Like if I was Bill Gates, and was a big sports fan. I would be like "Here ya go, take this $2M and get this guy". I mean, Gates makes millions of dollars a week. I wonder if there are any rules against this. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 10:02 PM) Why not? They've both dominated throughout the minors through AA, but Hudson did a little better at each stop, and they are both the same age. Plus, Hudson is MLB ready, Drabek may need another year. I'm just going off statistics by the way, since I haven't seen Drabek pitch. I agree statistically they are comparable, but just going by scouts and rankings and such. I have not seen Drabek pitch either, but they speak VERY highly of him. -

QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Feb 22, 2010 -> 09:46 PM) ...I am sad now. Also, everyone saying we'd give up Danks, Floyd, or Beckham think about it... Kyle Drabek, Travisl D'Arnaud, and Michael Taylor (who became Brett Wallace) Hudson is one of the top SP prospects in the bigs, he could match Drabek. Flowers matches D'Arnaud Danks/Mitchell matches (or, if Mitchell, trumps) Taylor and Viciedo could match Wallace. I would say Hudson is NOT anywhere near Drabek.
