  1. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Feb 19, 2008 -> 07:17 PM) What makes people think Crede can obtain us draft picks? First off there's no chance he'll become a type A, and I don't know how good of season he'll have to have just to become a type "B" free agent which would net us one supplemental pick. Big whoop. Wow. You care WAYYY to much about people having interest in Crede (who is a very likable guy may I add). People like Crede, and hope he can stay, big whoop. You don't need to bash everyone for liking a player, especially considering your signature. Seems you should know about cult icons on the team.
  2. Just for the sake of discussion, lets say, LETS JUST SAY, that..... Joe Crede comes out this spring and lights it up. He flashes great defense, his hitting tremendously, and is just better than he has ever played before. Meanwhile, Fields is still struggling with his glove over at 3B, and is misplaying easy balls. Do you trade Crede because his value it is as high as it was before the injury, or do you try and work around keeping Crede with this new found back, and maybe look at moving Konerko with Fields then to 1B (or LF and Swisher to 1B, Quinten/Owens to CF) or any other options that would keep Crede at 3B?
  3. I hope he starts in AA, and can make it up to AAA by the end of the season. Then hopefully make the team by 2009-2010.
  4. QUOTE(knightni @ Jan 5, 2008 -> 02:37 PM) FutureSox says "Hi!" http://www.soxtalk.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=52199 Willits is certainly better than Owens, Quentin, or any other one I could have put in CF. And this is going to be played on Out Of The Park 8. It's a baseball sim game. Not "fantasy" per say. By the way, this is my current 25 team... http://usmlb.50g.com/mlbsimleague/teams/te...oster_page.html That's the league website. And that's my current roster, you can check out my minor league system as well if you want.
  5. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 09:28 PM) All this talk of how easy first base is kind of makes me laugh. Yes playing first for your beer league softball team probably doesn't require any athleticism. But playing the position in the majors requires some skill. There is this whole footwork part that everyone is glossing over. And the ability to take short hop throws and stretch while keeping on the bag is another thing. So no you cant just put anyone over at first and hope it works. Can fields do it sure, but whats the point. Oh its the Crede-4-Life coalition who is always inventing brand new ways of keeping him on this team. They were on the move Fields to left for a while no matter how much Kenny said that isn't going to happen. Now its lets get rid of Konerko and move Fields over there. For the C4L crew remember this magical formula. Crede+2007 Season Ending surgery+Bora$$+FA Year = Overwhelming HE GONE. No one is saying keep Crede all season, but it sure dosen't make any sense to dump him now while he has no value at all. Brian Anderson would bring more back than Crede right now. Give Crede a chance to prove he is healthy, then trade him come July. And of all the positions in baseball, 1B is the one that requires the LEAST amount of skill or athletism. Fields, however, has athletism and I am sure if Konerko can stretch to reach balls, then Fields would have no problem doing so. Basically I see it this way, Swisher is a better OF defensively, then Fields is a 3B defensively, so it would be better to stick Fields at 1B, then it would Swisher. Also, Crede at 3B would be much better defensively, than Fields in LF or Quentin in LF.
  6. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 01:43 PM) Moving Fields to 1B hurts his value as well. If you want Crede in the lineup and Quentin out, the best thing would be to use Swisher at 1B which is his best position by a good margin and Fields in LF. Either way, you are hurting someone's value. You can disagree with the assessment of Quentin being a better offensive player than Crede it's fine. It's all opinion at this stage. Neither is exactly in great shape health wise. When healthy, I'll take Quentin's bat over Crede's every day of the week. Fields is a below average defensive 3B. Fields in LF and Swisher at 1B is worse than Swisher in LF and Fields at 1B. Swisher PLAYS outfield, Fields does not, or at least not very well when he had to. You are hurting Swishers value by putting him at 1B (he is a good corner outfielder defensively), but you are NOT hurting Fields' value by putting him at 1B (he is NOT a good 3B defensively). Also, I am not so sure that Quentin can hit .280+ with 30 HR, 90+ RBI, and play gold glove defense.
  7. QUOTE(sircaffey @ Jan 6, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) First, Swisher is a very good defensive 1B. Second, Fields doesn't play 1B. Third, Quentin will be a better offensive player than Crede. 1B is the easiest position to move to. Konerko is an average defensive 1B and we have never had problems. Put Fields there, and he will be fin.e Swisher going to 1st hurts his value, he is a very gifted athlete, Corner OF would get better value out of him. Quentin better offensively than Crede? Mind you he had surgery so you wont see terrible numbers like in 07. I would rather see Crede's great glove down at 3rd then dump him off while he has absolutely no value. At least give him until the all-star break before you trade him. And Quentin can survive 1 year of platooning in the OF, its not like he is never going to get a shot.
  8. If we trade Konerko, why does Swisher move to first? Trade Konerko and try to get Willits and Shields. Or some CF and pitcher. Then set us up like this... LF - Swisher CF - Willits RF - Dye 3B - Crede SS - O-Cab 2B - Richar/Uribe whatever 1B - Fields DH - Thome Instead of moving Swisher to 1B and still having to play Quentin in left, why not move Fields to 1st, and keep Crede with us. And in the event that Crede needs a day off for his back, you move Fields to 3rd, Swisher to 1st, and Quentin then in LF. Am i missing something? Why hasn't this been mentioned?
  9. QUOTE(Gbubbs @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 02:44 AM) l would say you are high and the Dew sig would suggest you are really high Really? I figured an aging player getting played a lot of money for a young very talented player and a young talented pitcher was a good trade...
  10. Those are Swishers ZiPs in an Oakland Uniform though. Put him in a Sox uni, and his HR is sure to rise over 30.
  11. QUOTE(SoxFan1 @ Jan 4, 2008 -> 02:09 AM) Yup, looks like a Fantasy trade alright. Well what do ya think? Im also about to make another trade... Angels get: DH Jim Thome + Cash White Sox get: CF Reggie Willits RP Dustin Moseley I then move Dye to DH, and put Swisher in RF.
  12. Another Forum I am on is doing a MLB Fantasy League thing. It's VERY indepth, and you pick a current major league team, not a draft. I, of course, picked out White Sox. Well our season starts in a couple days, and all the GM's are wheeling right now to get some trades in. I just completed a trade, and I feel like I fleeced the guy. Just wondering what you guys think about these trades I will be making. Just made this trade with the Orioles GM... Orioles Get: 3B Joe Crede CF Jerry Owens SP Jose Zazueta(not sure if hes a real player actually, he was in Class A) White Sox Get: 2B Brian Roberts SP Troy Patton SP Fernando Cabrera I feel like I got a great deal. Crede has 1 year left, coming off an injury, and is deadweight to us really. Owens is fast, but does not offer much else. Zazueta has terrible ratings, not much else to say. Brian Roberts, as we know, is a pretty damn good player. Troy Patton is a 22 year old stud, and Fernanado Cabrera is just a throw in player, but still has wicked movement on his pitches, and is like 21 years old. Any thoughts? Im still looking to deal for a CF, I alread contacted the Phillies GM, but he is in love with Victorino appearantly.
  13. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 06:51 PM) If the Phillies had any pitching prospects, or really anything interesting at all, then perhaps I'd consider it. But there is absolutely nothing the Phillies have that they'd consider parting with which would make that deal make sense for the Sox. Well Crede is virtually deadweight. Dye is still good, but he is aging. Victorino is 27 years old and while he played RF last year, he has played 100 games in CF in about 2 seasons in the bigs. He hit .281/.347/.432 last year with 37 Stolen Bases and only struck out 62 times. I happen to be a big Victorino fan, and I feel with Dye turning 34 years old in a couple weeks, we can dump him off. I think it would make plenty of sense for the Sox, especially if we can get a pitching prospect from the Phils, but if not, we still dumped salary and got a lot younger.
  14. What about Crede and Dye for Victorino and some Phillie pitching prospect. Outfield then of Quinten - Victorino - Swisher. Phillies get their 3B, and a pretty good RF in Dye.
  15. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Jan 3, 2008 -> 05:59 PM) Well, you're right, Thome is still an injury risk, as is JD while we're at it. But the best answer I can give to that is my classic theory...you can't have Johan Santana stuck in the bullpen just in case one of your starters gets hurt. Injuries will happen, it would be intelligent of us to be careful with JD and Thome to try to minimize them, but they will happen. I think that if/when Thome hits the DL this year, the logical move is Owens moves to starting CF, Swisher moves to either RF/1b, and Konerko/Dye alternate DHing, and you try to get around it as well as you can. You can look at just about any team in baseball and say "Oh, what happens if player X gets hurt, they're screwed". If Thome goes down for the full season for some reason, we're not winning the Central, and we'll probably finish last. If Cabrera goes down for Detroit, they might compete with us for that spot. If Johan went down for the Twins, ditto. You play the guys you have and do the best you can at some level, because you can't just keep talented guys sitting in the dugout in case someone gets hurt. Agreed. You CAN'T keep talented guys on the bench incase someone gets hurt. However, that is not the case. We are talking about Jerry Owens here. We can spell the older/injured risked players (Thome and Dye) in favor of giving Owens some experience, and having a better defensive CF in there.
  16. Call me crazy, but, isn't Thome still an injury risk? So you set your team up with Quentin, Swish, and Dye. Thome gets subbed out every 4 or 5 gms. Dye then moves to DH, Swish to RF, and Owens in CF. And inevitably, Thome or Dye will get slowed down with an injury at some point, so then when one of them does, Owens goes to Center, Swish to RF, and whichever of Dye or Thome DIDn't get injured, DH's. Sure you can try and trade Dye for some prospects, but then what happens in Thome gets injured again? Pablo Ozuna plays DH?
  17. My first post here... Think there is any chance we can swing a deal to the Angels for Ervin Santana and Reggie Willits, or AT LEAST Willits. Reggie is one of 5 outfielders, and the other ones are all getting paid a lot not to sit on the bench. Ervin Santana is their #6 starter gettting bumped for Joe Saunders. I figure both these guys might be available, and I know the Angels still probably have interest in Crede. Maybe a package around Crede for Willits, or try to land both Willits AND Santana?
