  1. He won't have an Abreu season by the end of the year. That's a pretty soft consequence.
  2. I'm not comfortable saying a player with a 1.5 WAR average should be valued at 2-3 WAR based on a third of his age 29 season where he's seriously outperformed his career averages and is a prime candidate for regression.
  3. He's been worth less than 1 fWAR per year in his career. Minnesota won that trade for sure but I'm not overly sad about losing a decent bench player.
  4. I know he went to SF in '93 but imagine the '93 and '94 Sox with Bonds... he had an OPS+ of 206 and was worth 10 WAR in '93.
  5. It's interesting the split on Singer - after watching his last start I wouldn't be surprised if he slips. He was 89-92 with his fastball and had trouble putting hitters away with 2 strikes. He left quite a few balls over the plate and got hit harder than his final line would indicate.
  6. Casey Mize Cole Winn Joey Bart Brady Singer Nick Madrigal
  7. For those who didn't look: in 71 games Beckham hit .411/.519/.804
  8. Part of me wants to take a shot because of his history but he has been BAD for 200+ innings now and I don't know if there's anything left there. Plus he only wants to start and seems to have a bad attitude.
  9. I don't mind it in general but Wacha has a hard time throwing strikes and you're close to getting him out of there so I'd much rather he take.
  10. You can pretty much post this every day and you'd be right.
  11. Exactly. What actually happened is Covey was unable to throw a strike and gave up 3 runs he shouldn't have. Glad we're in agreement and you finally saw reason.
  12. Yeah the walk on 4 pitches then going to 3-0 on Gordon is the fault of the fielders. Sometimes fielders make mistakes and you need to pitch over them. Covey can't do that.
  13. Covey let Covey down by not throwing strikes
  14. When the Sox are getting smoked again and Moncada is 0-3 with 3 strikeouts again just remember how he's looked tonight. That's what we're (hopefully) getting when he figures it all out.
  15. Fulmer is setting down a pretty good lineup with just his fastball.
  16. Nothing on where Cease is starting? Assume A+?
  17. Tie game on a monster shot by Gurriel. Kershaw in the postseason man.
  18. Astros making the Red Sox look like they don't belong in the postseason so far. Red Sox have a pretty weak pitching staff so this isn't too surprising, though.
  19. QUOTE (Dam8610 @ Oct 5, 2017 -> 08:16 PM) That trend continuing would bode very poorly for the Indians.Yeah, lucky for them Bauer threw a shutout. Indians v. Astros looks to be a hell of a series.
  20. The starting pitching has been pretty bad so far this postseason.
  21. I would want this to happen purely because Stanton is my favorite player to watch highlights of. Some of the bombs he hits dear lord... Rationally, it's not worth doing unless we give up A) no prospects or B) give up minor prospects or guys on down years and get Miami to take on some of that contract. I doubt either will happen (no matter what they say I doubt Miami lets him go for nothing) so I think this is a pipe dream.
  22. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 3, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) And this is why I quit saying it. Its all backup quarterback syndrome. I'm interested to hear what you would've liked to see done differently. I think I remember you were hoping for more younger position players to fill out the low minor leagues, but the Sox have quite a few interesting position prospects in A+/AA now.
  23. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 29, 2017 -> 02:02 PM) Even if they do, I get the feeling taking Eloy, Cease, and the trash in the rest of the deal with the Cubs will outweigh the Pirates deal of Glasnow, Keller, Newman, etc by a mile. For sure. Unless Meadows was in the Pirates deal and hit .350 this year like Jimenez did they wouldn't be able to come close to what the Cubs offered.
