  1. If I'm Salem, I wouldn't even want to win that way. It's a complete dick move.
  2. Brent Morel with an RBI single off Daisuke.
  3. Wait a second... You can use a major league player on a rehab assignment in the minor league playoffs? That just seems wrong. Daisuke Matsuzaka vs Justin Edwards in the Carolina League playoffs. Winston-Salem vs. Salem Kannapolis vs. Lakewood Great Falls vs. Helena
  4. Not knowing he had a $1 mil option, yeah, he'll be back.
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 09:51 PM) And what if he fails? What if he is absolutely terrible and shows he needs to go back to Birmingham and work on things? What if he gets injured? Then what is the plan? Anyone in the rotation can get hurt at any time. It's part of the game. Quite frankly, you worry about it then. They may have Torres in the pen next year. He could be moved into the rotation. Brandon Hynick? Ely? Harrell? Pick someone up in a trade. Who knows, maybe Freddy will be back. I'm just guessing what I think the Sox will do, and I think Hudson is a strong possibility for a spot in the rotation next year.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 09:23 PM) Why? Why is it that you will take the rookie every time? Do you think Hudson has the stones to go punch for punch with Jon Lester in Boston like Garcia did? Do you think Hudson has the stones to go into Yankee Stadium and get a quality start against that Yankee lineup? Do you think Hudson has the stones to pitch against the Red Sox for the second time in 10 days and quiet their bats again? Not trying to be a jerk, just trying to get you to elaborate on your opinion a bit more. I understand the desire to go with the hotshot rookie - we're all excited to see what he can do - but if Freddy wants to come back, and is willing to do so on a $1-2 million contract with some incentives, then there is no reason not to bring him back. I think you take the rookie because when you have Peavy, Buehrle, Floyd, and Danks, you can afford to carry a high-ceiling rookie as your 5th. Do I think Hudson can compete with the big boys? To be completely honest, I've seen the man pitch a total of two innings. I'm basing my opinion on his outstanding stats, and the fact that he rose through the entire system in one season. I think the Sox wouldn't have brought him up and added him to the 40-man unless they already had it in their minds that he's ready to compete with anyone in the league. But if it came down to Hudson in the Sox bullpen or starting at AAA, I'd rather he keep starting.
  7. Rios looks like he needs to be completely broken down and rebuilt. I'm going to trust that he'll rebound and at least go back to his career averages, but this move could really go down in history if he doesn't turn it around next year.
  8. Morel finishing in style- 3-4, double, homer. He only made 10 errors in 123 games at 3rd this season. Viciedo made 30 in 114 games at Birmingham.
  9. I'm not going to directly respond to some of these posts, but it's an awful idea of putting Hudson in the bullpen next year. Garcia has been a nice surprise, but if your option for a 5th starter is a 34 year old on the downside of his career or a 23 year old rookie that has the possibility of being an ace, I'll take the rookie every time. In my opinion, the Sox wouldn't have brought Hudson up this September unless he's the favorite to be the 5th starter next year. It takes a special pitcher to go from Low A to the majors in the same season. I think the Sox know this guy is ready to start next season with the big club. At the very least, the Sox did Freddy a favor to get him back out there, and he can find a team that will sign him for next year.
  10. Birmingham puts 4 in the 9th to take a 6-5 lead. Retherford hit a 3-run homer. A nice way to end the regular season.
  11. Shelby breaks it up in the 8th.
  12. Travis Chick no-hitter through 7 vs Birmingham. He's over 100 pitches, but I can't imagine he'll come out this being his last start of the year.
  13. Some chick is no-hitting Birmingham.
  14. I hope Retherford can get a few hits the last couple games to stay above .300.
  15. Peavy should do what he wants, but I hope he just shuts it down and starts fresh next year. I'd rather see Torres and Hudson get some major league starts. I'd like to see a six-man rotation with Buehrle, Torres, Hudson, Garcia, Floyd, and Danks getting four starts each over the last 24 games.
  16. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 5, 2009 -> 09:56 PM) Hah, indeed. Wonder if poor Josh will finally get a few starts? Nix is starting today.
  17. QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 4, 2009 -> 10:35 PM) We don't even need to worry about the Tigers. Just keep winning games and things will take care of themselves. Um, ok. I guess the Sox could go 22-4.
  18. Yeah, time is running out on the Sox. The Tigers are playing good ball. They definitely could get to 88-90 wins.
  19. I would love Retherford and Gartrell on the Sox bench next year. Highly unlikely, but I think they would both be good.
  20. Trayce Thompson was moved to Great Falls to get more AB's.
  21. If Hudson gets called up, I hope it's just to get a few innings here and there the rest of the way. He's approaching 160 innings, and that's pretty standard for a minor leaguer, especially in his first full year.
  22. Brady Shoemaker and Kent Gerst are playing for Charlotte.
  23. If Thome comes back here next season, Dye and Konerko better be gone. It's time to turn over the roster as much as possible, when it comes to the over-30 crowd.
