  1. I'm beginning to think the reason they don't want to lead off with Getz is because of politics. They know Beckham is the future so they don't want to be put in a bad position when it's time to replace Getz. It'll be easier to replace a 9th place hitter than a leadoff hitter. Just a thought.
  2. It's almost decision time on Owens. I hope he has a weak 0-5 today.
  3. QUOTE (juddling @ Mar 19, 2009 -> 05:46 AM) I thought 'Better Off Ted' was pretty ok last night. I could see the show hitting a good stride and being pretty funny. That means somehow(even though it's on ABC) Fox will find a way to cancel it on me LOL I gave it three minutes, and it just wasn't doing it for me. When characters are talking to the camera, it's a bad sign.
  4. Did he just say Donny Stewart? Did I just hear that?
  5. QUOTE (southsideirish71 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 04:50 PM) DJ and Farmer sounding real dumb, on how we can't put Chris Getz at leadoff because he is a rookie. Yet putting a crappy player like Owens who was in the same situation was considered brilliant. Come on now. Common sense please. Ray Durham led off in 1995, and he never played a game in the majors. Getz can hit in the majors-period.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 04:42 PM) I'm not an expert, but I think the new hitch in Becks swing is affecting his contact. He does have a weird stance. Kind of a reverse pivot stance, with that bat pointing toward the pitcher. It's worked for him, so who am I to say it won't work. But it is unconventional.
  7. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 04:39 PM) Galvin Jiminez and Mike Sosa making appearances in today's broadcast. I turned the audio off. It's pointless.
  8. I'd like to see Beckham break his mini-slump this inning.
  9. Melton and the other guy are doing their mike check>> Melton asked if he could hear him breathing. HAHA...somebody finally got to him.
  10. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 02:34 PM) That's not bad (assuming the Sox don't make any trades) though I still have a hard time thinking Poreda will be in the pen. I do too, but I think with Richard probably taking the 5th spot, they'll need a second lefty. Randy Williams may have a shot, but Poreda has been REAL impressive this spring. I think they'll give Poreda the spot if the other things fall into place: Colon on the DL, Richard in the rotation.
  11. I'll take a shot at the 15 cuts to come: Colon and Nix on the DL. P: Broadway, MacDougal, Marquez, Russell, Wassermann, Williams C: Lucy, Stewart IF: Beckham, Broussard, Torres OF: Kroeger, Owens This means the bullpen will be Poreda, Thornton, Egbert, Carrasco, Dotel, Linebrink, Jenks Richard will be the 5th starter.
  12. I hope Viciedo drops another 10-15 pounds, and plays all over this year--3B, LF, and RF. And maybe take some side work at 1B too.
  13. Gonzales also reporting Kelvin Jimenez was added to the cut list.
  14. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:01 PM) I don't see how you got that out of the situation. Viciendo is 20 years old and will be in AAA, outside of Jon Garland, I can't think of many 20 year olds we have seen on our AAA team. Fields is clearly playing well enough to earn the 3B spot, and splitting time and at-bats will do nothing for Viciendo's potential and progress. Brandon Allen going to AA instead of AAA actually surprised me the most. I'm not too surprised about Allen going to AA. He only played 41 games there last year. Plus Charlotte will probably have Broussard and maybe Myrow.
  15. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 18, 2009 -> 01:03 PM) Quick question: What does it mean for the guys sent down to minor league camp, and not straight to AA or AAA? Are they still trying to determine what level they want them to play at? Right...minor league camp means they haven't decided where they want to assign them yet. They have to set rosters just like the major league team, so those decisions are partially made now, but for some others, they need more time.

  17. Broadway gives up a run in the 10th on a wild pitch.
  18. Braun was injured coming into spring training. He's been throwing on the same sidelines with Colon and Contreras, only it wasn't reported as widely.
  19. QUOTE (scenario @ Mar 17, 2009 -> 04:26 PM) Another note from Gonzalez... TUCSON, Ariz. - Manager Ozzie Guillen revealed that 19-year-old Cuban infielder Dayan Viciedo has shin splints that has affected his running. Viciedo, however, is in the White Sox's lineup Tuesday against Arizona. Viciedo showed his bat is fine by ripping a double three-fourths of the way off the 30-foot wall in center field off All-Star pitcher Dan Haren in the second inning. Viciedo, however, was easily thrown out trying to run to third after Chad Tracy threw to first to retire Brian Anderson. He didn't get the memo that Viciedo is 20.
  20. Trib's Gonzalez: TUCSON, Ariz. - White Sox second baseman Jayson Nix was pulled in the top of the fifth inning after ripping a double off the center field wall. Nix apparently aggravated a right quadriceps strain that sidelined him earlier this spring. Nix was noticably limping as he rounded first base. He was replaced by Eider Torres.
  21. Richard gave up a 2-run homer in the 5th. Still, good to see him get stretched out to start.
  22. 1-2-3 4th inning for Richard. Two grounders and a K
  23. I'm just playin' about Buehrle's contract. It would be tough to move three years/$45 million right now anyway. I wouldn't mind having three lefties in the rotation. Colon can go, for all I care.
