  1. QUOTE (santo=dorf @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 11:44 AM) Why do people keep adding an n to Dayan's last name? They'll learn.
  2. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Feb 15, 2009 -> 10:16 AM) Can anyone picture the Sox putting Owens on waivers ? Yes. He's 28. He's been in AAA for 3 years already. But--- I think he'll win out and be the Sox leadoff man. Wise will be let go at the end of spring training. They'll try to hang on to him and send him to AAA, but if another team takes him, oh well.
  3. Barring a move, I think Owens would have to be awful not to be the opening day leadoff hitter/CF. They're going to give him one last shot at this.
  4. I don't hate Obama (I voted for him), I'm just wondering if Reinsdorf calling Obama the "First Fan" has any correlation to not giving #1 to a player this year. If it's a marketing move, it's stupid.
  5. If they're clearing #1 for Obama I'm going to puke.
  6. Well, they gave Viciedo a big league uniform number--good ole number 24.
  7. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Feb 9, 2009 -> 09:57 AM) I wish we can have Viciedo play 3rd base and have Fields play 2nd base. It can't be too difficult for a 3rd baseman to move to second base, the base is still to the right of them, and the throw to 1st base is shorter. All they'd need to learn is how to turn the double-play. I'd also much rather see Josh play 2nd base if Viciedo win the 3rd base job instead of any of Gets/Lillibridge/Nix. I hope you know that won't be happening. I think Fields would be very slow at 2B. Best case scenario--Fields is adequate at 3B, but has a great year at the plate--30 homers, 90+ RBIs, and Getz and Lillibridge get the job done at 2B. I think Getz is going to be a lot better than people think he will be. He's an excellent contact hitter. I think he'll come up with a ton of big hits. Viciedo is only 20 this season. Send him to AA with Flowers and Beckham. If any or all of them have good seasons, call them up in September.
  8. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...sp&c_id=cws For some reason it bugs me when the Sox official site dives into the rumor mill.
  9. I don't think Figgins is in the picture at all. If you have Quentin and Abreu in the corners, you can't have Figgins in CF. Owens is already suspect out there. Figgins is not a good CF. Also Figgins won't be going to 3B unless they trade Fields, and I think they really like Fields and want him to play a full season in Chicago before giving up on him. If Dye gets traded, it'll be for pitching. I could see that Bailey trade happening if Abreu signs with the Sox.
  10. Owens- CF Pierzynski- C Quentin- LF Dye-RF Thome-DH Konerko- 1B Ramirez- SS Fields- 3B Getz- 2B Bench- Lillibridge-2B/SS, Betemit-1B/3B, Stewart-C, Anderson-OF Rotation- Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Colon, Richard Bullpen- Poreda, Carrasco, Russell, Thornton, Linebrink, Dotel, Jenks Wise gets traded or released at the end of spring training.
  11. Lyon's signing made me think about Linebrink. He got 4 years, 19 mill last year. He got his contract at the right time. No way he'd get that now.
  12. QUOTE (Princess Dye @ Jan 23, 2009 -> 12:38 PM) Every time i hear about Poreda he sounds like a potential reliever. Additionally, is the fear with Flowers that his bat wont be good enough to warrant putting up with weak D behind the plate? Is he projected as AJP type hitting? less? I know little about him. Flowers was at A and AA last year. Kenny Williams said he could hit in the big leagues now, so it's his defense that needs work. Maybe if he has a good year at Birmingham, he'll be up in September.
  13. I kind of think of Jeff Kent as the Gary Carter of 2B. You watched his whole career. He was pretty good. He was very good for his position. But you never really thought Hall of Fame when you watch him. Kent is very borderline, but he'll probably get in.
  14. Let's call the WBC what it is...it's an international marketing tool. It's not for the US or most Americans. If there are some Americans that are into it, go for it. That's your prerogative. But don't try to throw it down people's throats that they're bad Americans if they don't give a s*** about this thing.
  15. Flowers will be at AA this season.
  16. It's interesting that even if Kent didn't take steroids, they may help him get in the Hall. All of his best RBI seasons were in San Francisco, batting behind Barry Bonds. It's an unfortunate trickle down in this era, and why it will be the toughest group of players to evaluate for Hall of Fame consideration.
  17. I ignored the WBC in 2006, and will do the same this year.
  18. Heard KW say Colon will get to Glendale on February 2 to continue his rehab. That's a good sign that he wants to get to camp a couple weeks early.
  19. Jody Reed. Reed turned down a 3 year, $8 million contract with the Dodgers, only to sign with Milwaukee for $300,000 the following year.
  20. QUOTE (103 mph screwball @ Jan 14, 2009 -> 08:30 PM) You may be right and that may have been the plan. But you can never have too much pitching and the Sox might be able to pick up someone like Garland, Pedro, or Garcia for what might be a depressed market price. If KW can get a low risk, high reward, formally successful starting pitcher, he may take that opportunity. Marquez can prove himself in the pen like McCarthy/Floyd and step up if one of the vets gets injured. I don't see how Marquez is any higher on the depth chart than Broadway or Egbert. He hasn't even proven himself at the AAA level, so I think it's a little premature to put him on the staff. I'm putting Poreda in the pen at this point, but only because he's a lefty. I think ultimately he'll be starting at AAA to start the season, as will Marquez.
  21. I have the pitching staff as: Buehrle, Floyd, Danks, Colon, Richard Pen: Poreda, Thornton, Carrasco, Russell, Dotel, Linebrink, Jenks
