  1. I could deal with Richard being the 5th starter, but I think he'd be a helluva lot more valuable as a second lefty out of the pen, and a spot starter.
  2. Nice post, Scenario. I'm wondering if Beckham will be a non-roster invitee, since usually that's reserved for guys that actually have a shot at making the team. Maybe they'll just put him in minor league camp and bring him up a few games here and there. I really doubt they're going to hand him the job without at least going to Birmingham for a couple months. But I agree with you---after seeing him play about 10 games after he got drafted, I'm sold this guy is the real deal and he'll be up at some point in the 2009 season. The signing of Jayson Nix, and the talk of he and Chris Getz being a platoon at second base makes it sound like they'll be there just until Beckham is ready to take over. Should be interesting to see if he exclusively plays 2B in the minors next year, since it appears Alexei will be the Sox SS for the next few years.
  3. Danks 2-4 today. Double, single, walk, run scored.
  4. Nix was added to the 40-man roster. Who in the Sox system is up for being added in a few weeks? Like last year when Russell, Egbert and Harrell were added or they would have become fair game in the Rule 5 draft...who is in that category this year? Brandon Allen one of them?
  5. QUOTE (robinventura23 @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 09:54 PM) So I wonder if Gooch gets a ring for his whole 4 games of contribution this year to the Phillies? Jamie Burke got one AB in 2005. He has a ring.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Oct 29, 2008 -> 04:23 PM) Wow...Jordan Danks already 2-2 on the day with a dinger. As excited as I am about Beckham...I'm really hoping this kid develops into our CF of the future. 4-4 now. 2 runs. 3 rbi's. It would be a refreshing change to actually develop some of our own draft picks.
  7. Maybe a Getz/Nix platoon until Beckham is ready. I'd be surprised now if the Sox signed Orlando Hudson. He'll want years, but I don't see the Sox making Beckham a 3rd baseman--and he's not going to be in the minors very long. Getz/Nix/Uribe seem to be a good stopgap until Beckham is ready. If Getz or Nix play their way into the lineup long term, even better.
  8. Beckham was 1-3 with a double, walk, and 2 runs today. Also made his 3rd error in 4 games. His team lost 18-10, and they committed 6 errors. Carlos Torres and Derek Rodriguez both pitched and managed not to give up any runs. Cole Armstrong was 4-5.
  9. Kinda sucks Beckham is only playing once every three games or so. Maybe he'll get an AB tonight. I hope they start him at AA next year.
  10. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Oct 14, 2008 -> 02:36 PM) this is not just directly directed at you yasny but to everyone....really Beckham in 09???? I think Beckham will be on the fast track, but they have to decide what position he's going to play. I could see him being up at some point during the 09 season, but not to start the season. That doesn't seem realistic since they'll build a team that can win in 2009. They certainly won't count on Beckham to start the season in Chicago. My feeling is Beckham will play 2B next year at Birmingham. If Alexei is a great SS, he'll stay there. If not, Beckham will move back to SS. I'm not buying the 3rd base idea. I think Beckham is in the opening day lineup in 2010, and hopefully for the next 15 years.
  11. Konerko handed Reinsdorf the ball. He'll get his number retired. 35, 14, 56, 13 are the next four.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 13, 2008 -> 01:11 PM) I didn't realize that the kid was #23. My favorite He was 6 at Georgia. He was 8 at Kannapolis. Don't go out and by that 23 jersey quite yet. JD might not want that either.
  13. Beckham is leading off and playing 2B tonight. Made an error, got picked off by the catcher. 1-4, double, HBP
  14. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 23, 2008 -> 11:04 PM) I almost don't want to watch. I am really afraid. Makes two of us. I plan on watching a couple movies during the game. I'll check the score around 10:30, and hope for the best. If they lose tonight, same thing tomorrow.
  15. Cabrera Pierzynski Dye Thome Konerko Griffey Ramirez Wise Uribe
  16. QUOTE (Mr. Showtime @ Sep 12, 2008 -> 09:46 PM) Yep, it's 2 on Saturday. Ranger posted on WSI, that there was talk of Sunday but then the teams met with MLB and came up with this. It's a regular doubleheader, starting at 2:55. Tickets for tonight's game can be used for a voucher for a 2009 game.
  17. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Sep 11, 2008 -> 09:22 AM) That would be great, no liriano or slowey...we would actually have a chance to win the series! They could definitely move Slowey up to Thursday, but as of now that's how their 5-man rotation works out. Liriano will pitch the final weekend, so the Sox will definitely miss him unless they go to a 4-man rotation, which seems unlikely.
  18. Tribune is saying 4-man rotation after Sunday. That means the matchups in Minnesota: Vazquez-Baker Buehrle-Perkins Floyd-Blackburn
  19. QUOTE (Tony82087 @ Sep 9, 2008 -> 11:46 AM) Don't expect to see Getz anytime soon. He also has a fracture in his wrist. I put this in here because the Bourgeois call up makes a lot more sense now. Happened August 31. This guy's fault: http://www.minorleaguebaseball.com/milb/st...&pid=451584
  20. Angels, then Red Sox-but it's close.
  21. Here it is: Cabrera Anderson Dye Konerko Ramirez Swisher Uribe Fields Hall
  22. Anderson, Hall, and Fields are playing today. Pretty sure Fields is the DH with Uribe at 3rd.
  23. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Sep 7, 2008 -> 11:15 AM) AJ needs a rest badly. other than that Ozzie should play all of his regulars, unless Griffey needs a rest, then it should be BA in CF for his defense. I heard the lineup earlier. Hall is playing, but I can't remember if there were any other subs in today. Today is a huge game. If they can win today and tomorrow, the Sox will have a 3 or 4 game lead going into Tuesday.
  24. I'm surprised they stuck with Valido that long. That's fine, we have a couple shortstops in Beckham and Kuhn to keep an eye on.
