Happy Easter, Hope The Sox Don't Lay An Egg!
flavum replied to knightni's topic in 2008 Season in Review
Owens, CF; Cabrera, SS; Thome, DH; Dye, RF; Swisher, 1B; AJ, C; Fields, 3B; Quentin, LF; Ramirez, 2B. Danks pitching. -
QUOTE(GreenSox @ Mar 23, 2008 -> 10:14 AM) Ellis can't hit. The Sox don't need yet another bad offensive player.
-
The boxscore has Bourgeois under Guillen's name, so Hughes may have had it wrong. Game ended 8-8. Whoopti whoop.
-
QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 05:50 PM) Oney Guillen into pinch run for Crede. Too bad we couldn't have Carrie Schuler on the roster as well, she hits about as good as Oney does. Oney is playing 3rd base. This is on par with Billy Crystal's at bat. edit: Pat Hughes got it wrong. Pablo "Osuna" is at 3rd. Oney at 2nd. Some scrub pitcher is about to blow a three run lead in the 10th.

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 05:40 PM) Dont let him tease you, he'll be swinging from his heels in a week. So? He is who he is. He's some pretty good insurance at 2B and SS.
-
Uribe --homer with 2 out in the 9th. 5-4 Sox going to the bottom. Keep Uribe.
-
QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 05:19 PM) Can Hall be DLed? He could.
-
Backup catcher isn't a popular topic, but I think Toby Hall is a release candidate. Phillips seems to have a good arm, and some ML experience. Too bad Ozzie put Hall at 1B last spring, but if he can't throw, he's worthless.
-
QUOTE(RockRaines @ Mar 22, 2008 -> 04:51 PM) So much for Javy's solid outing. It's spring training, so I'm not going to freak out. But when Javy coasts through 5, and then gets torched in the 6th, it pisses me off.

4-0 Sox. Roughing up Lilly.

I think Anderson gets in a comfort zone when he plays in the state of Arizona, where he is from. When he gets in the big stadiums, in cold weather, I expect him to fail again. I'm rooting for the guy, but he's going to have to do it in April for me to believe he's turned a corner.

And now this news... http://blogs.suntimes.com/whitesox/2008/03..._continues.html

QUOTE(lvjeremylv @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 05:21 PM) Mark Ellis thing? Elaborate please. Just rumor, but it's popped up a couple times in the last month. No idea if it's true, but he'd be a nice pickup.
-
QUOTE(RME JICO @ Mar 20, 2008 -> 04:31 PM) Probably also means welcome back Torpedo Boat as well. No way we let him go now with Richar being out that long. I still think Uribe is gone. They'll go with Ramirez/Ozuna/Bourgeois. Or maybe the Mark Ellis thing gets done. That would be my preference.
-
Per the Score, Richar out 4-6 weeks. Good luck, Alexei.

Kenny, the Dodgers are calling on line 1...
flavum replied to RudyLawRules's topic in Sox Baseball Headquarters
Sox and Dodgers play each other this afternoon. Maybe Ned Coletti and Kenny Williams will have a chance to chat about some things. The Dodgers have a bullpen guy that would give the Sox some depth at AAA---Jonathan Meloan. Remember that name. -
I think the Sox have a chance to be pretty good this year----with Josh Fields. I'm not denying Crede is a much better defensive player, but Fields is ok. If they keep Crede, I think it's just a distraction to the team until something happens. If it's inevitable that Crede is getting traded, I'd rather it be before next Thursday.
-
Anyone else out there who doesn't really give a crap what they get for Crede? I want him traded. I want him traded now.
-
Owens starts 108 games in CF. Richar starts 108 games at 2B. Ramirez starts 54 games each in CF and at 2B. These are just rough estimates...
-
Boers and Bernstein are trying to confirm that Juan Uribe has been released.

QUOTE(NorthSideSox72 @ Mar 19, 2008 -> 12:18 PM) So that last bullpen slot really is between Masset and Wassermann (even though they aren't the same type) - which means Masset. And with Lucy and Armstrong gone, that pretty much guarantees we have Toby Hall as the backup C, I think. Who does this leave in camp now? Pitchers(14): Buehrle, Carrasco, Contreras, Danks, Dotel, Floyd, Jenks, Linebrink, Logan, MacDougal, Masset, Thornton, Vazquez, Wassermann Catchers(3): Hall, Phillips, Pierzynski Infielders(8): Cabrera, Crede, Fields, Konerko, Ozuna, Ramirez, Richar, Uribe Outfielders(6): Anderson, Bourgeois, Dye, Owens, Quentin, Swisher DH(1): Thome In my opinion, Carrasco, Bourgeois, and Phillips are still around as an emergency situation. Masset will make the team as the long man, with Wassermann falling just short. A lot of the other moves are contingent on possible trades. Crede and Uribe are still trade possibilities. Anderson is a maybe. Quentin and Richar's health. A lot up in the air in the 8 days left in Arizona.
-
Ohka got cut today. Reassigned to minor league camp. Carrasco outlasted him. Also...Sisco, Lucy, and Eldred were cut. 32 left in camp.
-
I still think Crede gets traded in the next 8 days. They'll settle for whatever they can get in the end.
-
Unless there is a trade, I think the pitching staff is set: Buehrle, Vazquez, Danks, Contreras, Floyd Masset, MacDougal, Logan, Thornton, Linebrink, Dotel, Jenks Wassermann and Ohka fall just short, but they'll be needed this year.

Crosstown Showdown in Another State - March 15
flavum replied to Heads22's topic in 2008 Season in Review
QUOTE(knightni @ Mar 15, 2008 -> 04:39 PM) Is Paul Phillips from minor league camp or something? Non-roster invite. Has played in the majors. If Hall starts the year on the DL, I think Phillips has a shot over Lucy.
