  1. QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 09:07 PM) fWAR is better than bWAR and has Salty at 1 WAR versus Flowers's 0.8. (just pointing it out, I wouldn't have signed Salty either) Fair enough. I use bWAR because I find their site easier to navigate. I thought both agreed to standardize the WAR stat?
  2. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) When did I guarantee a replacement? Boy you like putting words in my mouth dont you? I said its time to find one. That's the one thing your getting is time. Right now you have no replacement and no time. Flower's is on a 1 year contract and you have absolutely no depth. The free agent market looks horrible for this position. Now what? Flowers + scrambling for another catcher or Salty +3 years of time to find one that you dont have is alot smarter. Flowers is arg eligible in 2015. Not an FA until 2018. Apparently one cannot find catching depth while having Flowers on the roster. Very few teams have catching depth. Catching has been down around the league for quite sometime. Maybe I'm not being clear. I'm not a believer in Saltalamacchia or signing guys to any kind of long term deal who are 29 coming off their career year. I fail to see how Hahn was wrong here. Flowers have been the better player in 2014 and still is under team control for some time.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:59 PM) Joe Nathan sucked again tonight he has just lost it this year. That's too bad.
  4. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:53 PM) I dont know how about you tell me? If you actually believe that then I dont know what to tell you. I'm telling you that Flowers has been better than the player you wanted to sign for a bunch of money. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/s/saltaja01.shtml 2013 was Saltalamacchia's highest WAR season at 2.9. I just don't see the value in essentially buying high here. I also think it's silly to assume that in 3 years this team will have developed a catcher, because I don't see it in this org as we speak. So why pay for a guy on the wrong side of 30 when it's not guaranteed his replacement is there in 3 years as you argue. Take the savings you're getting (from a guy playing better according to WAR) and use those dollars elsewhere?
  5. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:46 PM) All Salty costs was money. Fills a position for 3 years giving you time to find a long term solution. Now your essentially rushed to find a solution. Hahn hasnt made many mistakes but not finding a replacement for AJ was definitely one. Saltalamacchia 2014 WAR right now: 0.0 Flowers 2014 WAR right now: 1.2 You're making me argue for Tyler Flowers. How is this possible?
  6. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:40 PM) Nice at bat Tyler...what is he now 3 for 41? Cool. I suppose I should have posted that when I asked you to name names. Regardless, I'm not really sure why Miami would all of a sudden be willing to deal a catcher they signed last off season for "a player" when you consider they know the market for catching is complete s***. Look, I think Flowers sucks too. But Salty doesn't solve all your problems, never mind his age.
  7. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:21 PM) Jarrod Saltalamacchia right off the bat. Now what's going to happen is its going to cost us players to acquire one. Look at the free agent class next year. Ehh. I just don't think this years team is something that is one player away.
  8. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:18 PM) There is a reason now Start naming names.
  9. QUOTE (Baron @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 08:08 PM) What the heck was Hahn thinking by not giving us veteran insurance behind Flowers? Especially this year. I know he thought his shoulder was part of the problem(apparently his track record didnt mean anything). But last year was a huge red flag. There was almost no catching out there. No reason to overpay
  10. I just went down the rabbit hole on Baseball Reference on Juan Gonzalez. Uh oh.
  11. Just chip away at this lead. KC can't hit home runs, so it's unlikely they will string together a bunch of hits in a row again.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 07:32 PM) His FIP coming into this game was 3.06, or half of a run better than his ERA> I was looking at FIP relative to his career, but point taken. Also, his walk and K rates seem to be in line too.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 07:30 PM) Development? I can't see how anyone would really expect anything more than what we saw out of him last year. To me that was as optimistic as I ever really thought possible for Quintana. I like this. The Sox took a guy who was released by the Yankees and made him into a legit 3. I know he's a 2 on this team but on a good team I think Q is a 3. That's a solid win, IMO.
  14. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 13, 2014 -> 07:27 PM) Q has regressed this year so far. You think so? The advanced stats seem to be in line with his career.
