  1. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 12:25 PM) I hope the bolded part is a typo, because nothing seems cheap about that. oops. fixed. Yeah $40/ month is expensive haha.
  2. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 09:33 AM) The Top Ten RHP Erik Johnson SS Tim Anderson RF Courtney Hawkins RHP Chris Beck RHP Tyler Danish SS Marcus Semien 2B Carlos Sanchez 2B Micah Johnson CF Trayce Thompson RHP Francellis Montas Are BP the same publication that surprised everyone by including Myles Jaye last year? Because if so, they appear to have done it again with Montas. Yes - BP has Jaye ranked last year http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=19444 This article is now free, I believe.
  3. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Nov 15, 2013 -> 11:00 AM) These BP write-ups, IMO, are easily the best lists out there and are totally worth the 3 dollars or whatever you pay for monthly access, even if you just sign-up during prospect season. This. I have an insider account and I don't really mind ripping their content (although I don't post it here). I have been a BP subscriber for 5 years now and it rules. It's only like $40 a year*. The writing it top notch and if you like the prospect stuff it's the best coverage out there. *note: edited from month to year
  4. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 14, 2013 -> 08:13 AM) Also, BP's org T10 for the White Sox comes out Friday, from Jason Parks. It's up and is both disappointing (not surprising) and also reassuring. Parks wrote that the system is much improved.
  5. Boers and Bernstein has Curtis Granderson on today. They asked him what his offseason plans were, and Granderson mentioned himself, Beckham, Kipnis and a few other big leagers were going to be working out. Terry then said, "Can you please switch Beckham and Kipnis?" I lol'd really loud at work.
  6. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Oct 25, 2013 -> 04:40 PM) Bryant and Baez would fit perfectly in to our system, really. True, although Bryant hasn't been a Cub for a year and thus, can't be traded.
  7. I don't read Chicago Now but they apparently need to stop publishing crappy discussions heard at the local bar.
  8. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:39 PM) I definitely get where you're coming from but I just don't think Iglesias is going to be able to hit at all, certainly not enough to be an everyday ss. Giving up your 2nd best prospect and allowing a potential playoff opponent to get a lot better as well just doesn't make too much sense. Maybe Detroit doesn't think Peavy is that good anyway (or health concerns). Also the short stop market is next to nil. Last, as I stated before I saw your post, Detroit is in win now mode. Holding onto your second best prospect (lets be real here, Detroit's system isn't great anyway) doesn't do you any good, especially when he doesn't fit on the currently constructed roster.
  9. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jul 30, 2013 -> 11:34 PM) Because they gave up their 2nd best prospect for that, who ended up on a division rival. Sorta weird. Detroit is in win now mode. Second best prospects don't mean a damn thing when flags fly forever.
  10. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 12:13 PM) I took the content out of the post because it comes from a pay site. My bad, I'm sorry. Since I have BP subscription I always seem to forget that everyone doesn't have access...
  11. This from J Parks today: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=21136
  12. I was at that game. Best game I have ever been to in person.
  13. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 2, 2013 -> 10:35 AM) Mike Trout's signing bonus at the bottom of first round in 2009, $1.125 million. And some are arguing this guy might not even be a Top 25 prospect in our system, automatically. Who? If someone actually thinks that it's the dumbest thing ever said.
  14. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 09:04 PM) There's no way they're going to write off Viciedo until the end of the 2014 season, at the earliest. Who else on the team is capable of hitting 25-40 home runs next year? Write off is different than extend. I was simply stating that I believe Beckham is actually a good candidate to extend.
  15. QUOTE (sin city sox fan @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 09:58 PM) Maybe its the 117 degree heat in Las Vegas making me crazy, but what if we decided to be buyers instead of sellers? We are only 10.5 games out of first place and no one seems prepared to run away with this division. Lets go out and trade for a 1B, 3B, C, OF, DH, and a couple of pitchers. If we have the opportunity, lets upgrade at other positions as well. We can turn this thing around with the pickup of 8 or 10 new players who contribute strongly. Wouldn't it be a hoot if we won the division after this start?? You're drunk, go home.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 1, 2013 -> 06:01 PM) The problem is obvious. Beckham, Viciedo, Gillaspie, DeAza, Flowers, Santiago and Quintana....which ones would you extend? Both pitchers? Or would you trade one? What about Addison Reed? (Obviously you had been advocating a trade, but that likelihood is falling by the day with the poor results). With Beckham, Viciedo and DeAza in particular, you could make 100 arguments for extending them and 100 equally valid arguments for not doing so. With those moves, it's pretty obvious the Indians put themselves pretty squarely into "win now" mode. Does Hahn even believe that's still possible for 2014, or is he already subconsciously targeting 2015 (and even then, you might have a couple of new starters like a Thompson or Carlos Sanchez to go through growing pains with). You extend Beckham because he's the best player out of that bunch. Viciedo isn't an impact bat. Gillaspie has to show me more. DeAza has sucked this year. Ditto Flowers. I think Santiago and Quintana could be used as "super relievers" if teams didn't suck at using their pens. But if you're asking me to pick one it's Quintana without question.
  17. Want to add that Jason Parks over at BP saw a showcase in the DR in January. Article is below (sorry, not sure if this is behind a paywall - I have a BP subscription) http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article....articleid=19417 He writes, "The running gives way to arm strength drills, which give way to a lengthy batting practice session, where seven positional groups take their reps and hope to add a few zeros to their eventual bonus. Micker Zapata hits one beyond the left-field seats that eventually stops rolling by the Shell station. A scout who had previously confessed his love for the 6’3’’, 225 lb. outfielder sat in silence as bomb after bomb left the yard. The salesman just drew a line through the sticker price. So much for that plan, man. Can I interest you in a six-figure player instead?" Also had a Google spreadsheet of all the players he saw (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnPMlx4uEmECdE1GMTRxM3JiR2pWQnFqMV9YaW4yelE#gid=0) Honestly, if this org actually pulls this off I'm cool with sucking for 3-5 years. I have been very critical of them not spending internationally. I'm really excited, even knowing that a majority of kids from the DR at this age flame out.
  18. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 27, 2013 -> 07:46 PM) When will we get a hitter that we don't have to wait 4+ years to hopefully develop Talent is talent. Development takes time.
  19. I hate De Aza more than anyone on this team. Yes, more than Keppinger
  20. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jun 21, 2013 -> 06:24 PM) Beating the Royals is all I really care about this season. They have quickly become my most hated team in baseball. Why are the Royals your most hated team?
  21. QUOTE (The Ultimate Champion @ Jun 20, 2013 -> 01:38 PM) If what you say is true then Hahn should be the one laughing at Texas & telling them to get suck a fat one, not the other way around. You deal the Jakemeister & Alex to Texas and you are giving them a huge hand winning the division AND giving them 2 good players under control. You had better get back someone like Martin who is ready now & fills a need plus a lot more. And that more can't be a bunch of Jared Mitchells and Trayce Thompsons. Ceiling is great but when your floor is bottoming out in Triple A then you ain't good enough to headline a deal like that. That's a huge deal. Martin is just a 5...average regular. You need tons of high ceiling, proejctable talent. If the Sox acquired Brinson, Gallo, and Alfaro I would do backflips. And while I understand there is a considerable amount of risk, having the "we need to find ML ready talent" isn't going to happen, and it's the wrong thing to do. White Sox fans need to get used to thinking that this team is not going to compete for 3 to 4 years.
  22. From a certain terrible writer on the boo-yah website: Dream deal Jake Peavy and Alex Rios to the Texas Rangers for Justin Grimm, Jorge Alfaro, Lewis Brinson and Joey Gallo. In Peavy, the Rangers solidify their rotation behind Yu Darvish with a fearless veteran who still can miss bats and keep the ball on the ground. If he remains healthy, he can consistently pitch into the sixth, allowing the Rangers’ relief corps to shut down the last three frames. The White Sox need solid pitching prospects and former Georgia Bulldog Justin Grimm gives them a sturdy right-hander who could be a solid middle-of-the-rotation pitcher. The other prospects are still in Class A or below, so all provide ceiling while being far from a sure thing. Seriously, I LOL'd at this. Not a chance Texas gives up all of the last 3 players mentioned.
  23. Jordan Danks. Also, this article was very refreshing coming from Hawk.
  24. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Jun 14, 2013 -> 08:10 AM) Demoting him solves nothing. The key for him isn't just getting his feet under him against easier competition - that accomplishes nothing in his case. He needs serious work on the swing AND the pitch recognition. That will be the case in rookie ball too, and that may even be a problem because it could allow some bad habits to be reinforced. He sure as heck doens't need more confidence either, he oozes that, probably too much of it. I think you keep him right where he is for right now, but my suggestion is... sit him every other game. On those days, he works alone with the coaches in the cage, doing any kind of drills they can think of to work on mechanics and recognition. Then in the fall, send him to the instructional-level league in Arizona, with much the same approach. For 2014, start him wherever you see fit, but no lower than Kanny. And I am still pretty optimistic. He's got incredible bat speed, huge athleticism, and a strong arm. And putting up the XBH he is as a 19 year old against High A pitching, by the way, is almost as uncommon as striking out half the time. Only Hawkins and A's SS Addison Russell were high schoolers started in High A from last years draft. Both are struggling, but Russell is seeing better results. It was an aggressive promotion and frankly, not sure if it was warranted. I don't see how a demotion doesn't solve anything. With that said playing him every other day does NOTHING to further his development. Hawkins needs reps. He's certainly not keeping someone better from playing considering how awful this system is.
  25. QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 13, 2013 -> 09:21 PM) That is horrible. Is the pitching THAT good? From the BP Minor League wrap today: Courtney Hawkins, CF, White Sox (High-A Winston-Salem): 0-5, 5 K. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I have never seen it in Hawkins. This is the fifth game I’ve seen him play this year, and I believe he has one hit. He was dominated tonight by fringy pitchers. He has no chance against any breaking ball, but the scary part for me was that he was getting beat with average fastballs. Defensively, he will eventually have to move off of center field. I hope he can figure it out, but for me, his stock is way down. Look, if Hawkins is getting beat by breaking pitches in High A it's a terrible sign. Just imagine Double A where pitchers can spot the stuff.
