2010-2011 NHL thread
LittleHurt05 replied to southsider2k5's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Looking at the standings, I don't think it's too early to call tonight a must-win. Hawks had 3 days rest, & the Wild lost last night. Two points for Frolik tonight. -
I can't believe it took me this long to start watching Tosh.0. Hilarious.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 05:01 PM) You think they're bad? Excellent rotation. Above average bullpen. No matter how overpaid Wells is, he's an upgrade. If Morales comes back healthy they've got a pretty good team. Oh, that Peter Bourgos kid looks real nice. Dude can fly and he's already above average defensively. He and Trout might be the two fastest guys in baseball. No bullpen can be considered above average when Fernando Rodney is the closer.

Before this season, Byfuglien had 55 G & 109 Pts in 260 GP, with a -15 rating Started this season with 16 G, 41 pts in 42 GP with a +8. 16 games since then, 1 G, 2 pts with a -8. Atlanta better hope the 1st half of this season was for real, not just a lucky streak. Good for Buffs though. The Hawks were never gonna offer him anywhere near that much money, so whatever. -

QUOTE (PeavyTime @ Feb 15, 2011 -> 02:03 PM) I'm hoping they draft Tisdale At this point I'd prefer Wayman over Mike. (too soon?) -
Sox finish 1st in the ALC, 91 wins, 4 gms better than DET, 8 above the Twins Konerko has an 07-09 type season, but Dunn goes off for 44-119 CQ plays less than 70 games Peavy starts 20-25 games with an ERA of 3.50. Sale has over 35 saves and wins AL Rookie of the Year. (I think he's eligible)

That's nice of the Phillies to include Blanton in the press conference. Easily could have just had the 4 great pitchers and left the bad one at practice.

Take it FWIW @SI_JonHeyman one competing baseball exec told me he believes #cubs will offer pujols the a-rod deal ($10 mil, $27.5 mil/yr). supposed to be 10 years of course, not 10 mil -
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 03:04 PM) And why the hell don't they serve garlic fries in the stadiums in Chicago like they do in California? They serve those at Qwest Field in Seattle. I am sure they are tasty but the whole freaking stadium stinks like garlic.

It depends how this world would come about. If I had to make the choice tommorrow with the life I live now, I would definitely choose vegan. As much as I enjoy meat, I don't have the killer instinct to kill all my food, nor would I want to expend the time or energy. But if I were born into this imaginary world, I would definitely choose the hunter option. In that scenario, its something that I would know from the day I was born, so I would have the instinct to do it and it would just be expected.

QUOTE (JPN366 @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 01:26 PM) I'm guessing these are all Eminem fans, because I doubt anybody would get that passionate about Katy Perry, Lady Antebellum or any of the other artists. By the way, what's the appeal of Eminem? I like hip hop, but I don't get his appeal. That stupid scowl and everything about him is lame. I don't always care for his scowl and attitude, I just think he's one of the best hip hop MCs thats ever been around. I may live in a cave I guess, but I still have no idea who the f*** Arcade Fire, Esmeralda Spalding, or half those other performers were. Oh well.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 14, 2011 -> 07:36 AM) His body wasn't great in the sense that he was thought to be overweight at the time. Think Dayan Viciedo. Oh, understood. Either way, I still don't think you can look at him and be 100% positive that he's not on HGH or anything. That's something that has to be thought about when you are giving away so much money, even if people don't like to talk about it. -
As a teenager listening to Goodie Mob's "Soul Food" album, I never figured that 15 years later, Cee-Lo would be at the Grammys playing with the Muppets and a white blond actress, dressed as a peacock.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 11:42 PM) Here is a quote from a Red Sox scout who liked him before the draft... http://www.boston.com/sports/baseball/reds..._that_got_away/ His body wasn't great back then? Hmmm, considering what the looks like now, I think thats another issue that comes up with a long-term contract. Had he been juicing at all? If so, is he still juicing now? If he is now, is he gonna keep juicing during the full length of the contract? All those questions could have a profound effect on how he ages through the length of the contract as well. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 08:19 PM) It's not that. I just don't think either would shell out $30 million a year for 10 years for what would be a luxury for them. I can't even see the Yankees sporting a $250 million dollar payroll. I see what you are saying. It's just the way they throw money around, I just can't say never for them, especially when it's the best player of the era we are talking about. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 08:07 PM) What AL team could afford to add a $30 million dollar a year player to their roster? The Yankees and Red Sox are just fine at 1B. And I don't even think they would or could open up their wallets for Albert. Tigers? No. Maybe the Angels? And they just took on the most ridiculous contract in baseball. I get what you are saying about the Yanks & BoSox, but I would still never count them out. A combination of Tex/AGon & Pujols at 1B/DH. I think they could convince one of the guys to play more DH. -

QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 05:56 PM) All the Illini fans here went to the school and I understand their passion. I'm going through the same frustration with my alma mater. But it isn't the refs fault McCamey is mailing it in or that Tisdale is an unathletic black hole. Nick Smith >>>>>> Mike Tisdale -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 07:42 PM) OK, I'm like seriously jonesing for some baseball right now. I mean, I even miss Juan Pierre's epic attempts at getting on base via the weak single. It worked 27.5% of the time last year! I agree though. They had several MLB articles in the Trib today and I'm ready for it. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 07:06 AM) Off the top of my head, I can't remember if Carlos Silva left as a free agent or was traded. He was another of those classic guys who "overachieved" when pitching for the Twins. I disagree that he overacheived. Over the 4 years in Minny, he was pretty average. I think once he got to Seattle, the Mariners had given him so much money, he stopped trying at all. -
Sox to go with four man rotation to start the season?

QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 13, 2011 -> 09:04 AM) I think that it's too risky, honestly. Why build up innings that early? I concur. You are gonna make someone go on 3 days rest in April? That sounds dumb. It may win you that one game, but could cost you many more come August/September. -

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 03:38 PM) Going on a rant here, but I also hate when people complain about classless chants from student sections. Don't get me wrong, there are things that go to far, but it was funny to see outrage to Wisky's chants of "Diebler swallows" today. I don't know what people expect from a bunch of 20 year old drunken males. I mean, a big point of them is to get under the opponents' skin This is why Maryland will always be my favorite student section and my own school, Illinois, will be my least. For some odd reason, this just reminded me of the best sign I ever saw in a crowd. About ten years ago in East Lansning, someone had a sign that said "Cook's mom gives Luther Head" -
QUOTE (knightni @ Feb 12, 2011 -> 01:28 PM) Cept to 5-0 my brotha. True. Depends on the state you are in though, just ask Mark Sanchez.

Someone needs to explain to ESPN that its not an "upset" when the team that was favored wins the game. Great win for Wisco. They just don't lose at the Kohl Center. (unless Bruce Weber is on the other sideline ) I don't like rushing the court usually, but if you do beat the #1 undeafeted team in the country, it doesn't bother me too much. -
QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 11, 2011 -> 06:21 PM) Considering I am 10 years older then them, I did not. Age ain't nothing but a number...
