  1. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) That is exactly what has to happen. The Cardinals can only get the value for him if he signs an extension. Without the extension you will get he value of two draft picks for him. If the Yanks are not playing well I wonder they would move Tex and some youth for him. The Yankees would only think about it if they could sign Pujols to an extension immediately, and he already said he won't negotiate during the year. No way the Yanks risk not having either guy. That being said, its an interesting proposition on both sides. There's no guarantee the Cards would accept that deal. Now they'd be paying a 1st baseman that's worse than Pujols $22.5M a year til 2016 when he's 36.
  2. I read the story from ESPN, so I missed that "Anywhere" quote. I'll agree that if you do say something like that, you can't turn down Wisconsin's offer. But since then, they have joined the BCS and beat the Badgers in the Rose Bowl, so they are in a different position than they were 2-3 months ago. If Wisconsin had offered that game the day he said that quote, I wonder what he would have said.
  3. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 11:20 AM) collegefootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/02/09/tcu-says-no-to-2011-rematch-with-wisconsin/ TCU apparently wants no piece of Wisconsin. But apparently they want to continue to fake like they want to play OSU who they backed out against 2 years ago. Come on, lets make the first game exciting and get your p**** asses up to Madison. Meh. They don't want to play in Madison without a return trip to Fort Worth and UW only offered one game. They are a Big East team now, why would they accept that? Would OSU accept a game in Fort Worth with no game in Columbus?
  4. QUOTE (Cali @ Feb 10, 2011 -> 12:49 AM) Modern Family has been missing waaaaaay more than it's been hitting this year. At least to me.... I thought last night was freaking hilarious. The lines Phil Dunphy, or should I say Clive Bixby, was dropping at the bar were something else.
  5. Looks like a solid trade to me. Frolik is no superstar, but he's a year younger than Skille, can play 2nd line center and is already in his third full season in the league. Salak could be a future cheaper goaltendingr option. I've always liked Skille. He has shown some potential at times, but can't seem to put it all together at once. Lots of trade talk with him recently and rumors that he has been in the Hawks doghouse. Not sure for what reason.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 06:11 PM) Really, I'm more stunned that this was all it took to get him to resign. I'd assume that there has to be a lot more than this that he now expects to come out. I'll be genuinely surprised if there isn't. Hell, a Senator jsut got re-elected despite having visited prostitutes. True. Maybe he's hoping he can prevent the other stuff from coming out by just resigning now. At least stay in office and hope for some good damage control?
  7. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 06:07 PM) Michigan has actually looked like a competitive basketball team the past couple of weeks. May make a nice NIT run. If they could have somehow pulled out that OT loss to Kansas, I think they'd actually have a tourney chance. A win there may have prevented one or two of the following bad Big Ten losses too. Just read a great stat to cheer up Illini fans. In Big Ten games, Illinois is 2nd in FG% offense, 1st in FG% defense.
  8. QUOTE (kevo880 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 05:51 PM) referring to vick? yeah, just added the rest of that article mentioning it
  9. So you are saying that athletes arent the only famous people who dont realize their internet self-pics will get loose on the intrawebs???
  10. For all you dog lovers out there, great MLB.com piece on MB & his wife Oh, and this quote has mysteriously disappeared from the article...
  11. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 02:43 PM) I meant as far as natural talent and athleticism. Bo Jackson was the greatest athlete of the last 25 years. If not for the debilitating hip injury he would've been one of the all-time greats. Possibly in both sports. But definitely baseball. I will agree with that 100%. I kind of took it on that baseball tangent, but there's no doubt athletically he was a one of a kind talent. Comparing his NFL & MLB numbers, he had way more success on the football field, his MLB numbers don't particulary stand out as exceptional. That being he said, if he concentrated 100% on baseball, I'm sure it would have made a difference. I forgot that I was one sudden injury that derailed him, I for some reason remembered a culmination of several hip problems. Interesting quote from the trainer on Wikipedia:
  12. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) 2011 PECOTA has the Rays and Yankees at 98 and 100 wins. They have Boston at 88. I don't know what they're smoking over there at BP. The Sox are at 89 wins. What do you expect? Boston never gets any love or respect from the media.
  13. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 12:18 PM) You know he also played football right? You mean like Premier League Football, right? OK, I did forget how good Bo when he was playing in the NFL. But kinf of similarily the guys Steve mentioned, he only played 4 years and was done by the age of 28. He is one of the best athletes of all time, but didn't have anything remotely close to a HOF career in either sport.
  14. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 12:06 PM) That list is impressive compared to Henry Burris. Ugh, don't remind me of that game. I was a UIUC student then and actually drove back down to Champaign during winter break for that cold Sunday Night game. I know it was the SB champ Tampa defense, but still, he was BAD. What's funny is that he is now a star in the CFL, I think he's won MVP awards up there.
  15. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 11:33 PM) I'm willing to take that risk. Guys like Strasburg come along once a generation (think Bo Jackson, LeBron James). I'm a big Danks fan. But there are at least five left-handed starters alone of similar age I would take over Danks. Bo Jackson made 1 All-Star game, had 1 100-RBI Season and highest OPS in one season was .866. I don't doubt his athletic ability, but his baseball career was mediocre at best. I agree 100% with your second point though.
  16. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 10:51 AM) I could not get face value for my Saturday night Club Level seats on StubHub last year. They were $75 each. I used to go to all three games every year but now only try to make one. They are no bigger than any other game for me and really not worth the effort they used to be. Maybe I am just getting old. They will most likely sell out but if the prices are $50 for s*** seats I would not be surprised if they did not. Weekday games in June impact this in a big way. The resale market for the weekday cubs games at wrigley last year was very depressed. Really? I remember looking for tickets and seeing that the cheapest UD were in that range or higher, but maybe I was wrong. Weekday games ticket would definitely not be as popular and would hurt the resale value, but they still sell out, guaranteed. There have been weekday games in the past, and they are always gone the first hour that tickets go on sale, if even available.
  17. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 01:37 AM) Wow, those two had great careers. Meanwhile, over in the AL East, the Orioles were in the process of becoming relevant again and had the AL OBP leader and a better 3B than either of those two - THE Melvin Mora. Over in the NBA, the Minnesota Timberwolves were the best team in the Western Conference while the Indiana Pacers had the most wins in the NBA that year with 61. The two worst teams in the NBA that year? The Orlando Magic (21 wins) and the Chicago Bulls (23 wins). In the NFL, the Bears started 4 different QBs - mad props to anyone who can name all 4 - and Lovie Smith was a rookie head coach. Chad Hutchinson, Craig Krenzel, Kordell Stewart, Jon Quinn?
  18. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 9, 2011 -> 09:09 AM) I think if he does not resign they trade him to a team that wants to sign him. Think Angels for Morales, Trout and Weaver or something along those lines. Wow. I realize the Angels just took on Vernon Wells's contract, but give them a little credit. I don't think there is a player in baseball for whom you trade those 3 guys.
  19. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 02:26 PM) Every indication so far has been that his wife La La really only wants to go to New York, MAYBE the Bulls. Then again, LA is a totally new entity in the equation. Fixed.
  20. 3-point shootout contestants: Paul Pierce, Ray Allen, Kevin Durant, Daniel Gibson, James Jones and Dorell Wright
  21. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 12:15 PM) If those tickets are in the $50-$100 price range I bet they are easy to get and will not sell out. The steam for this series is getting really old especially if the cubs suck this year. False. The hype has died down a bit, but they will sell out. Have you been to the games? People still go and really get into the games, records be damned, even as the prices have topped all other games. In fact, if the Cubs suck, it at least gives their fans one series to look forward to, beating the Sox.
  22. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 12:52 PM) The main detective sort of had one but he's actually from Australia so it might take him time to fine tune the accent. It's always funny to watch a show, then later find out that the actor is from another country with a completely different accent that they manage to hide so well. Just finished the Wire and had no clue that McNulty is British & Mayor Carcetti was an Irish actor.
  23. QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Feb 8, 2011 -> 07:59 AM) It boils down to the fact that beyond Jonathan Toews, no big money player is playing up to their salaries. Kane has a -7 even though he is starting to find his scoring touch. As good as Sharpy has been offensively, he has a -13. Keith and Seabs also minuses. Granted they are playing other team's top lines, but it is brutal to watch how poor they are defensively this year. Just careless mistakes in their own zone, poor positioning and they just look slow/tired. Probably has to do with the Stanley Cup run they had last year and the Olympics, but I have no faith that the Hawks will make the playoffs. Hossa had 7 goals in the first 7 games. Since then he has scored 5 in the next 30 he played and missed 16 more due to injury.
  24. Another day, another 3rd period loss for the Hawks. I'm starting to resign myself to the fact they won't make the playoffs, but then again, despite being in 11th they are only 5 points back of 4th place, so it's not over.
