  1. QUOTE (Brian @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 04:47 PM) I take it Penn St/Illinois is still on? Yup, in front of only a few thousand. Illinois kind of needs this game and their home court advantage is slightly negated. Thankfully its the last time they have to face Talor Battle.
  2. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) Heh, I've re-decided to go to the gym. You don't go from 211 to 195 in 3 weeks by making excuses dammit. (Yay me). "We're happy for ya!!!" Seriosuly though, thats impressive. Been meaning to get on a weight loss kick, but it's been progressing very, very slowly.
  3. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:54 PM) Just got home from the loop (left at about 4pm). If you are traveling, I suggest avoiding Lake Shore Drive. When I got there it was completely backed up and had very little visibility. Id suggest other streets. A caller called in the Score around 4ish and said he saw like 4 guys jogging along Lake Shore. Not sure if it was true, but that's not Chicago tough, that's Chicago stupid.
  4. QUOTE (That funky motion @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:50 PM) Someone make me a "The Yankees like the White Sox sloppy seconds" signature, with both of their pictures in there!! Might as well include Boone Logan, Damaso Marte, & Nick Swisher in there. Well, maybe not Swisher, he's actually been doing well.
  5. They actually closed the Chicago Public Schools. That lets you know it's a serious storm.
  6. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:38 PM) Ha, I'm right near you. I spent 20 minutes shoveling as we had drifts of 3 feet in the driveway. It's starting to return to the same way... I guess I'll skip the gym tonight since I'll be getting a workout every two hours anyway. Were you really gonna go to the gym in this weather??? I'm still deciding if I wanna do start some shoveling tonight, or just wait til it all builds up tommorow.
  7. QUOTE (chw42 @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:32 PM) At least he won't play every other day now. Only if Ron Roenicke (who?) is smarter than Ozzie Guillen. Having Mark Kotsay as your 25th man in the NL, when your starting 1B is a fat vegetarian who is not skilled defensively, is not a bad move. Letting him play a lot is a bad move.
  8. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 12:00 PM) Fixed. Sox are gonna win the divison by 30+ games???? Sweet!
  9. QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 08:17 PM) Troy is the defensive MVP not the player of the year imo, if that makes sense. I agree 100%. That defense is so much worse without him, he could be considered for MVP on both sides of the ball. But his stats definitely don't warrant player of the year award, especially not with the time he missed.
  10. QUOTE (Chet Kincaid @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 08:14 AM) Free agent pitchers left according to MLB trade rumors... Jeremy Bonderman SP Doug Davis SP John Maine SP Pedro Martinez SP Kevin Millwood SP Brian Moehler RF / SP Jamie Moyer SP Andy Pettitte SP Jarrod Washburn SP If the Sox are looking for a stop gap, I think Lucas Harrell might be the guy. Maybe some early in the season major league experience will do him some good. Sounds like Pedro is not pitching again, Pettitte would only go to the Bronx, and Moyer just had Tommy John, so you can cross them off the list.
  11. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 01:26 AM) Garcia isn't ever going to be able to work deep into games consistently. To work deep into a game as a starting pitcher, you have to be able to attack the strike zone and be the aggressor. That isn't his game anymore. If Garcia attacks the strikezone on a consistent basis, he is going to be pummeled. He was successful last year because he could locate his offspeed pitches pretty well and make hitters get themselves out, so his success is really dependent on the aggressiveness of the other team. When he has to throw the ball in the zone, especially his fastball, he gets hit very hard. Further, due to his injury history, you really don't want Garcia throwing a ton of pitches either, so even though he isn't throwing that hard, it is hard relative to the durability of his shoulder. Great point. I remember last year, as soon as you saw the umpire's strike zone, you would know how long Freddy would last. If the ump was being generous on the corners, Freddy would be OK, cause he'd be able to dance his pitches around the zone. But if the strike zone was tight, he would have no chance. Either he would walk guys or would have to get it in the middle of the zone, and the ball would be getting hit very, very hard.
  12. QUOTE (Tex @ Feb 1, 2011 -> 05:34 AM) Anyone else having their returns delayed because of last minute changes to the tax code? Mine will not be processed until mid Feb at the earliest. I had that too. TurboTax says that if you take the standard deduction, it can be proceessed immediately. But if you itemize, then you have to wait til Feb. 14th.
  13. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 02:27 PM) Pet friendly salt I hope??? That's all I use but man, that s*** gets expensive as compared to the regular stuff!
  14. Didn't watch the game at all, but Sharpie was All-Star MVP. Not bad for a guy who didn't even make the original ballot.
  15. How bad were the other black mayoral candidates, that they chose Braun to represent the African-American community? Whatever votes she gained by being the sole black candidate, I'm sure she lost just as many for being an awful choice
  16. Spartand needed OT to get past Indiana by one point in East Lansing. Has Crean figured something out or are the Illini & Spartans just that bad right now?
  17. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 30, 2011 -> 12:58 PM) Are all 4 Bears playing in the Pro Bowl tonight? Just Peppers & Hester. Urlacher & Briggs declined right after the Packers game.
  18. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 08:29 PM) Was nicknamed Wimpy because he was beaten up by 4 nuns and a 6 year old boy in a bar room brawl. Scott Fletcher Duplicate, check post #38 Joe Jackson
  19. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Jan 29, 2011 -> 06:01 PM) Do you think their 300M spending spree a few years back was a reaction to our back to back 90 win campaigns? Or was it more of an investment idea for Zell: pumping money into the team to increase attendance, rebuild the excitement, increase the value of the team for the future sale. Either way, that man was a genius. He rode their hearts to hundreds of millions. It was 100% a business move by Zell. He basically said spend as much money as needed to get this team as close as you can to the WS, so that it will be worth more when I sell it. Hendry did exactly that, and got back-to-back playoff appearances and the best team in the NL in 2008. They choked in the playoffs and now those big contracts are destroying them.
  20. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 09:41 PM) How old were their great grandparents when an Illinois team won a National Champonship in basketball? They were probably in college at the time. I'm sure they passed down the story of the great 1915 Illinois mens basketball team under Ralph Jones that won it all. Ahhhhh, memories.
  21. Starting on it this weekend via TurboTax, so we can get our refund ASAP for our new hot tub fund. Its getting a little more difficult with two rental condos and a house.
  22. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 12:42 PM) I have a code for 10% off American Airlines: Let me know on here if you want the code. I'm flying March 10!
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 05:24 PM) And do you really think IU has elite history? They haven't won a title since 1987, way before recruits were born and have only had one good team since the mid 90's. The entire claim to fame is the 5 titles they won many years ago. History is good and all, but i don't think it means much to recruits who don't have parents from Indiana that remember the old glory days. Maybe its something in the water in Indiana, but that sounds an awful lot like a college football program up in the northern part of the state.
  24. QUOTE (knightni @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 04:58 PM) Fill in player til Konerko took over Dennis Lamp I Love Lamp! Dan Pasqua
  25. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 03:22 PM) I really don't think most coaches would care, certainly not nearly as much as with things like salary, facilities, fan support, program tradition and recruiting base. Since both of those coaches are already higher on the totem pole, let's go with a different hypothetical: how confident would you be in Illinois getting their candidate of choice if Texas also offered him the job? I know I wouldn't be terribly confident. That's a good example. I would hope that Illinois would be the choice, but the candidate picking Texas would not surprise me due to the abudance of resources they have. The fan support at OSU is another thing, since the fans dont care as much about the basketball as what goes on at the Horseshoe. I believe they didnt sell out this week as the #1 team playing the 2nd best team in the conference. I'm not trying to downplay Ohio State as some crap basketball job, but as compared to the top jobs, I think it could be a slight factor.
