Official 2010-11 NFL Thread
LittleHurt05 replied to knightni's topic in A and J's Olde Tyme Sports Pub
QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) This game is this week's "title belt" matchup. This means that if after the 1st Super Bowl victory by the Packers they were awarded a hypothetical title belt they would have to defend it during each regular season and playoff game. The first team that beat them got the belt, and the first team that beat the new belt holder got the belt, so on and so on. Basically if football worked like boxing this would be a championship game. Just a fun anecdote. I don't get it?? Wouldn't there be a "championship" game every single week??? -

QUOTE (knightni @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 07:30 PM) I can see this: QTR 1 2 3 4 IND 13 7 0 10 TEN 3 7 17 6 Do you have the sports almanac from Back to the Future? Should I bet on that exact box score right now??? Side note: Did anybody notice that when the Colts were 5-2 or 6-3, the media kept claiming that Manning is so good, it doesn't matter how many of his WRs are injured, he keeps winning? Now that they are 6-6, all I hear is that there is only so much Peyton can do with an injured WR core. Which one is it?? -

QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 07:28 PM) Considering they shredded the press 2 years ago that is simply false. They were awful against Mizzou last year but that is an outlier. Now that you mention that, yeah they did handle Mizzou's press before. But when they face other teams it seems like everytime they get pressed, it's nothing but trouble. Late in the game against UNC, they had the same issues. -

QUOTE (danman31 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 06:29 PM) Mizzou is really overrated. They're struggling against good, but not great teams and blew that Georgetown game. They might have the worst perimeter d in the country. After what Illinois did against Gonzaga, then thats a good sign for the Bragging Rights game. That being said, Illinois hasn't been able to beat a press for the last 3-4 years, so the 40 minutes of hell could give them a problem. Either way, it is good to see both Illinois & Mizzou relevant for their matchup. -

QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 07:11 PM) Any score is possible in the NFL. The key for me is whether the Titans have quit on Jeff Fisher or not. If they have, it will be a ugly. The last two weeks made it appear as if they have quit on him. We shall see though. If you don't get up for a Thursday night against your top division rival with the possible season on the line, then obviously they will have checked out. -

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 03:10 PM) I dunno about this...when you look at what their guys did last year, they got barely 210 games played out of Ellsbury, Cameron, and Drew, and most of those were from Drew (who hasn't been the paragon of health in his career). They basically got 1 1/3 of a season from their starting 3 OF's. They're fully justified in holding all 4 guys if they can afford to, based on how they performed last year. Definitely. Fact of the matter is that J.D. Drew is going to get hurt. Add that into the injury troubles Ellsbury had last year, that 4th OF is gonna play at least 60-70 games.

QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:51 AM) Tina wasn't that good when she was doing challenges and was more annoying than anything. Paula is such a baby. Tori went into the gulag and won. Why should she have to go again? I never thought Brad would of been such a sissy to go in himself. Tina was always with the top alliances, but yeah she never really did much physically. So much for a "heavy-hitter". Brad had been quite a little b**** this season. From not going into the gulag, to everything with Tori, and being upset that Camilia voted for him with a good reason, I always thought he was way tougher than he has shown on CutThroat.

QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 10:48 AM) I keep feeling like we'll trade Viciedo, Flowers, and Teahen for Broxton. Ugh, with the way he ended last year, no thanks. Thats way too much.

QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 08:39 AM) Luke Scott shouldn't have done this interview. He comes across as not only a complete douche but also a birther. Orioles have distanced themselves from his comments. I don't see what he did wrong. Are baseball players not allowed to have political opinions? So he is part of the birther movement? So what? It's not gonna have an effect on his baseball playing ability. Just because it's an unpopular opinion, doesn't mean he doesn't have the right to express it. Edit: It's not like he is parading around Camden Yards screaming "Impeach Obama!". He did a side interview in the offseason, politics came up, and he expressed his opinion.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:27 AM) Meanwhile, it looks like the Orioles have themselves a decent infield with Reynolds, Hardy, Roberts, and maybe Derrek Lee at 1B (or Luke Scott?). Maybe now they will start losing games 8-6 instead of 8-3

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 07:44 AM) I didn't even notice it was for that darned Bartlett. Great, another Piranha back in town...coming off a down season, of course he'll end up being an MVP candidate again next year. However, on grass, Bartlett's game isn't quite as effective IMO. Interesting they're going away from power in Hardy and back to their old SS. So that leaves the new Iguchi for 2B, Bartlett at SS, Mr. 2nd half ROY at 3B...not altogether bad, but they still have to find at-bats for Cuddyer, hope for a rebound from Span and pray that Kubel and Young don't play any worse defensively. Of course, Cuddyer could end up at 1B with Thome DHing depending on Morneau's status. Am I missing something? I thought Bartlett was traded to the Padres???

QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 12:05 AM) Well worth the wait. He picked up Johnny like a little rag doll, power-marched to the barrel, and slammed his b****-ass on it. Everything I had hoped for. That ending was the best part. Instead of just kicking the barrel over, he turned to the side and threw Johnny into it. Classic. And Tina = FAIL

I guess they played the first 7:22 of the Illinois/Oakland game with a womans basketball. Still not an excuse to be down double digits to Oakland, but at least they are leading now. -
QUOTE (Marty34 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 07:50 PM) He was all over the Konerko story proving again nobody in the media has better Sox sources than he does. Yesterday Cowley was all over the radio & Twitter saying that there was no way Konerko signs with the Sox, that ship had sailed, time for Plan B.

QUOTE (LVSoxFan @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:07 PM) Wow I didn't hear that. So Jackson's in, Freddy gone? I thought we dumped Jackson. We traded him for this young prospect Daniel Hudson.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 03:26 PM) George Sherrill has agreed to deal w/Braves, pending physical. He'll get a $1.2 million, base. Bonuses could bring it to $1.4 mill - Jerry Crasnick Braves going with the "Let's find old bullpen guys who used to be good and now suck, and hope they turn it around" plan. Sherrill was awful last year.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 03:34 PM) Some dope called the Score to say the Bears will win because the Pats will fall down on the field. He apparently forgot the Pats beat the Titans 59-0 with a field covered with snow and Brady threw 6TDs last year I hope that was during B & B, I'm sure they would have enjoyed that one. -

Any of you guys that may be going to the Bears game Sunday, you better start warming up right now. Looks like its gonna be a cold one, especially with the later 3:15 start.
